Úbeda (Jaén) Spain - Plaza Andalucia, Plaza de Mayo & Plaza San Pedro, UNESCO sites
Úbeda (Jaén) Spain is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site & the 3 plazas of Plaza Andalucia, Plaza de Mayo and Plaza San Pedro are among the reasons for getting this honored designation.
We thoroughly loved this town, located in the southern Andalusia region of Spain one beautiful historic site after another.

Places to see in ( Andalusia - Spain ) Plaza de Las Tendillas
Places to see in ( Andalusia - Spain ) Plaza de Las Tendillas
The square of the Tendillas is located in the city of Cordova ( Spain ), in the vicinity of the old Roman forum of the city of Cordoba. At present it is the axis where the commercial life of the Cordovan capital is developed and organized by serving as a connector of the main commercial avenues such as the streets of Cruz Conde and Gondomar. After its remodeling it has become a pedestrian plaza almost in its entirety.
In the present Place of the Tendillas, around the fourteenth century , were the houses of the Order of Calatrava as well as different small stores, zone whose name derived promptly in Tendillas de Calatrava, name by which it has remained until the present time.
In 1908 began the process of formation of the present Place of the Tendillas, widening of the east to the west of the place. In 1923 , the Swiss Hotel was demolished. Four years later in 1927 the Monument to the Great Captain , work of Mateo Inurria , moves to its present enclave. It was last reformed in 1999 , being inaugurated on May 13 by Mayor Rafael Merino
Inaugurated the 29 of January of 1961 , the clock on the Plaza de las Tendillas, located on the corner of Calle Gondomar, welcomes every December 31st the new year in front of thousands of Cordovan who concentrate on the square to celebrate. The clock has the peculiarity that instead of chiming, it plays the quarter and hour with the sound of a guitar built by Manuel Reyes Maldonado and played by guitarist Juan Serrano at the rhythm of soleares.
It emphasizes the House Colomera that is a house of four plants in the number 3 of the place. It was built by Félix Hernández Giménez in 1928 . It is considered as a modernist symbiosis between a manor house on the first two floors being the second two floors of floors. The house Enriquez Barrios copy of regionalism architects Aníbal González and Aurelio Gómez Millán , 1928.

Cordoba, Andalucia
Cordoba
An Iberian and Roman city in ancient times, in the Middle Ages it became the capital of the Islamic caliphate.
It has been estimated that in the 10th century and beginning of the 11th century, Córdoba was the most populous city in the world, and during these centuries became the intellectual center of Europe.Today it is a moderately-sized modern city; its population in 2008 was 325,453.
The gracious old town has the biggest and most labyrinthine old quarter in Spain containing monuments this old town spreads around its extraordinary Mosque on a bend in the River Guadalquivir.
The magnificent Mequita (Mosque) a symbol of a worldly and sophisticated Islamic culture begun in 785 and expanded and embellished during the following two centuries. At the very centre of the Mezquita stands the 1523 Renaissance cathedral, an intrusion that reflected Christian pride.
Córdoba's medieval Jewish quarter, the Juderia, surrounds the Mezquita and is a wonderful place to explore on foot, with plenty of bars and cafe's.
The most famous street in the area is known as Calleja de las Flores (Flower Alley) which gives a view of the Mezquita bell tower framed between the narrow white washed walls with pretty flower pots hanging from the walls.
The Main square of Córdoba is Plaza de las Tendillas, 500m north of the Mezquita, with the main shopping streets to the plaza's north and west. The train and bus stations are 1km northwest of Plaza de las Tendillas.
The Roman Bridge or Puente Romano over the Guadalquivir river that consists of 16 arcs with asymmetrical moulds. The view of this historical bridge can be more appreciated during the night, when illumination lends a romantic feel over the area.
There is so much to see and explore in Córdoba, it is definitely worth a day or weekend away.

Seville is the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region. It's famous for flamenco dancing, particularly in its Triana neighborhood. Major landmarks include the ornate Alcázar castle complex, built during the Moorish Almohad dynasty, and the 18th-century Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza bullring.
City Walk in Cordoba - Spain 4K Travel Channel
Our Cordoba city walk starts at the Plaza de las Tendillas with its glamorous architecture of the last century. Here is the business district of Cordoba. We walk south via Calle Jesus Maria, Calle Angel de Saavedra, Calle Blanco Belmonte and Calle Conde y Luque up to the Mezquita. It is well known that the Moors were masters of artificial irrigation, but in the garden of the Mezquita you can very well take a closer look at the filigree canal systems. The plants only get as much water as they need, a challenge at the hot summer temperatures.
We circumnavigate the Mezquita in order to get a feeling for the external dimensions of this magnificent building.
Through the narrow lanes of the Jewish quarter, the Judería, we reach the Puerta de la Luna, the southern gate. In the cool courtyard of the gate is a nice restaurant where we enjoy a cool drink.
In front of the gate is a portrait of Abu al Walid Muhammad ibn Rushd Averroes, one of the most important Arab philosophers. Abu Yaqub Yusuf I, the 2nd Caliph of the Almohad, commissioned him to reorder and comment the works of Aristotle. He was an advocate of the pure logic and fell in disgrace, because his view caused a conflict with the Islamic orthodox forces, the Caliph needed as a supporter for a campaign. He was banished and his works were burned. However already 2 or 3 years later, the Caliph brought him as a doctor again to his court in Marrakesh, where he stayed until his death. The Islamic orthodoxy categorically refuse his works to this day.
Along the Calle Cairuan, that runs along the old city walls, we go to the Puerta de Almodóvar. It is an impressive road, where water basins ensure coolness. On one side the street is flanked by the crenellated ramparts and the other side by traditional houses with pretty floral balconies.
The Puerta de Almodóvar is the last preserved town gate of the Arabic Age. It was restored in the 14th century.
In front we see a statue of Lucio Anneo Seneca the Younger of Cordoba. Known as philosopher, dramatist, naturalist, politician and as a stoic, he was one of the richest men in Rome, although he preached restraint in his philosophical writings. Yet his works are the most read in Rome. As an educator and advisor of Emperor Nero, he tried to reduce its licentious acts.

Cordova and the Great Mosque: Andalusian Pearls
(Portraits of Spanish Cities and Towns, 6)

Impressions of a beautiful city in the heartland of the Andalusia.
As I told before one time, a long time ago I lost my heart somewhere in Spain. It might be strange or even ridiculous for many people that I travel to Spain whenever I can because there are so many other places to see. That's certainly true. But Spain, and above all, the South, Andalusia, is so very special for me...
It took me three times to travel to Cordova to discover its beauty. You have to pass the ramparts or cross the Guadalquivir River on the Roman bridge and enter the old town and see the Great Mosque: that's where you discover a completely different world. The world of Maimonides, the world of Averroes (Ibn Rushd). Time seems to have stopped here...
The Great Mosque in Cordova is one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic art in Andalusia. From the outside it may look like a factory, a huge rectangular building, but ornamented with fine stucco with floral Arabic elements, but in the inside there is nothing comparable to its forest of columns where one can easily get lost or feel vertigo because of so much beauty. One may argue whether the late Gothic cathedral in its centre is an infamous piece of kitsch or, on the contrary, another glorious proof of human faith, but without any doubt it is an eye-catching counterpoint to the serenity of the rest of the building.
