CHEAP Kobe Beef Donburi and Where to Find it! (in Kobe, Japan)
Watch a journey from a little Airbnb home to Saiin station by bike, with a train ride down to Kobe, Japan to have affordable Kobe beef in Nankinmachi (Chinatown), a ride on the Rokkoliner, a trip to Sakura-masamune sake museum, and a view from Kobe Tower to cap out the night.
Obviously known quite fondly for its beef, Kobe, Japan has a huge amount of beef restaurants to capitalize on its fame. With so many to choose from, what's really the best? My name is Bill Kearney, founder of LightShift Video, and I'm deciding to skip the fancy settings and flair and find the best cut of kobe beef I can find without breaking the bank, or paying for unnecessary glamour.
Believe it or not, the place that suited me the best was Kobe's Chinatown, known as Nankin-machi, near Motomachi station. If you want the fine dining places, they have a few nearby, but what really stood out for me was a well advertised, but affordable Kobe beef street stand right in the heart of Nankin-machi. This little place has an entry level 60 gram Kobe option at 1000 Yen (~$9), a red meat 80 gram Kobe cut at 1500 Yen (~$13.50), and a premium all out slice of Kobe cattle at 4500 Yen! (~$40.56) Due to the slightly bigger size and presumed quality, I went for the 1500 Yen slice. Save the Premium Kobe for people with money to burn. Can it really be THAT much better?
After a great meal, you might as well explore the city a bit since you made the trek. Hit the regular trains for a while and you'll come across an unusual sign and symbol, known as the Rokkoliner. What is this unique train anyway? As soon as you get on, you'll realize it seems to have a rather open view on the front. Yep, you guessed it, this is an automated rail. There's no one driving this thing! Get good views of the Kobe area and head to the harbor area where we'll walk up the street a ways to find the Sakura-masamune sake brewery and museum.
It was rather quiet at the museum and if you want to check out a place that isn't crowded with tourists, you may enjoy this lesser known gem. If you are curious about the history of sake making, you'll see plenty of old artifacts here, but don't miss the true diamond in the rough, which is a little restaurant/bar hidden behind the museum. With friendly staff and a TON of great sake to try out, you'll be glad you stumbled across this place.
I tried the Junmai-shu which is a dry sake, and from what I've heard before, if you have a dry pallet for wine, you'll prefer a drier sake, especially if it's a little hot. Fried octopus and a small cheese dish are some of the many appetizers you can get here, or you can go into the restaurant for a dining experience. If finding a quiet place to drink sake and learn about the history of sake making is in your agenda, swing on by here.
It's getting dark and one important landmark of Kobe is Kobe Tower, which is a must see if you are just coming by here for the first time. Open until 9pm, you'll get sweeping views of Kobe from this tower with multiple observatory levels to check out the city.
Well it was a good day trip to Kobe and time to head back to Kyoto. When you get back, don't forget your bike!
We'd love to hear about your travels in Kobe and your ideas for great Kobe beef, or travels throughout Japan and beyond!

When in Kobe, you have GOT to eat Kobe beef. We visited Nishimuraya a restaurant which is owned by a family of butchers. They are located in central Kobe (just a few minutes walk from Sannomiya train station). We visited at lunch time and ate the yakiniku set lunch which was incredible value. All set lunches come with rice, miso soup, a side dish and salad. Our lunch set of included Kobe short rib and premium Kobe beef. It was amazing getting to sample Kobe beef in Kobe.
After an incredible lunch we visit Nada which is a primary sake producing region of Japan. We visit Hakutsuru and Fukuju brewery. Hakutsuru had a museum with English videos and an English pamphlet which explained the sake making process. There are a number of breweries in the Nada area all of which are within walking distance of each other.
We also visit Chinatown in Kobe which is said to be the second biggest Chinatown in Japan. It's a little bit quiet and although there's lots of food on offer, there's nothing really that appeals.
We traveled to Kobe on a day trip from Osaka. It's only 30 minutes or so on the train and it's a really cheap and easy trip. Totally worth it to eat amazing Kobe beef.
The Kobe beef restaurant we ate at was called Nishimuraya: kobe-nishimuraya.com
We hope we've inspired you to eat and explore like a traveler, not a tourist.

Japan pastry Kobe shop Custard whipped danish with plenty of biscuits 神戸屋 たっぷりビスケットのカスタードホイップデニッシュ
It was a really full biscuit custard whip. I'm really thankful to you.
Biscuit dough is a crisp and moist biscuit dough such as used in melon bread, and base bread is sliced danish dough, and its danish dough is sliced.
It is a product that is painted in custard whip.
The point to write is
Melon bread is made as a product that targets the people who eat big and sweets by increasing the amount, but as a weakness
It would be different if you were hungry, but you would get bored from roughly along the same plain taste.
This product is positioned as if it were upward compatible with melon bread, as it has successfully overcome the melon bread's weaknesses.
In Danish dough, the texture is moist compared to the bread article, and it is in the dough that does not take away moisture in the mouth
It contains custard dough that complements the sweetness, so you can enjoy firm sweetness wherever you eat.
It's so delicious that it is a good choice for sweet people.

All You Can Eat A5 WAGYU BEEF in Tokyo Japan!
The first time I went to Japan, I got to experience the A5 Kobe steak, and that flavor still sings with me. I knew that it probably wouldn't be possible to find a Kobe all you can eat restaurant in Tokyo, because, with me, they would be out of business in a day. However, I did find an A5 All you can eat Wagyu beef restaurant, can't beat that(:

INSIDE Japan SECRET Discount Ticket Shops | Kinken Shops
Resale Ticket Shops in Japan aka Discount Ticket Shops or Kinken Shops are ways Japanese buy and sell discounted tickets. Japanese sell unwanted tickets to these resale ticket shops for cash. These discount ticket shops have all sorts of tickets such as train tickets, shinkansen tickets, department store vouchers, concert tickets, movie tickets, coupons, Tokyo Skytree tickets, and even baseball game tickets. Any ticket that you can think of in Japan, the KinKen shops probably sell it, and more than likely sell it at a discounted price. Japanese usually sell tickets when they can't use it and the shops offer cash for these tickets on the spot. The discount ticket shop will then resell the tickets for a profit.
Also, ticket shops will buy specific Shinkansen train tickets from customers which allows customers to convert their credit card balance into Cash right away for just a small fee. This credit card to cash exchange is hard to get anywhere else in Japan and is almost like an 2-step ATM machine.
The Japanese will buy Shinkansen tickets with their credit card and get a cash return rate between 97%-93% depending on the resale ticket shop and the type or value of Shinkansen ticket the customer purchases.
In this video, I go undercover to show you how the ticket buy and sell process works. When I went to the Discount Ticket Shop they offered me several price options to buy Shinkansen tickets, called Kaisuken 回数件, which is a booklet of 6 Shinkansen 1-way tickets. The price varied depending on the train stations. I went for the cheapest train ticket booklet, which was 17,000 yen about $150 USD, but some train booklet prices were more than $1000 USD. So when customers are strapped for Japanese Yen, this is one way to use their credit card to quickly get cash.
The train tickets are valid for use for about 3 months so it gives the discount shops plenty of time to resell the Shinkansen tickets. Furthermore, the resale shops in Japan resell the tickets individually allowing them to make an additional profit on top of the 3%-7% they already made by buying tickets from customers. The Kinken shops take the risk of not being able to sell all the tickets, but they are able hedge their risk by asking customers to purchase specific type of Shinkansen tickets that are popular.
Japan Resale ticket shops though also have a secret black-market side. Criminals use these Kinken shops to resell stolen or counterfeit tickets. And some companies use these shops to evade taxes by cashing out business expensed tickets. While these Japan discount ticket shops can be used for illegal buying and selling of tickets, these shops are quite legal and operate under the law and in plain site. They’re even required to register their shops with the police.

#tokyo, Tokyo , officially Tokyo Metropolis, is the capital city of Japan and one of its 47 prefectures. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japanand the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when ShogunTokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture and the city of Tokyo.
2- Kyoto
#kyoto, Kyoto is a citylocated in the central part of the island of Honshu, Japan. It has a population close to 1.5 million. Formerly the Imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years, it is now the capital city of Kyoto Prefecture located in the Kansai region, as well as a major part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area.
3- Fukuoka
#fukuoka, Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture, situated on the northern shore of Japanese island Kyushu. It is the most populous city on the island, followed by Kitakyushu. It is the largest city and metropolitan area west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on April 1, 1972, by government ordinance. Greater Fukuoka, with a population of 2.5 million people (2005 census), is part of the heavily industrialized Fukuoka–Kitakyushu zone as well as Northern Kyushu.
4- Sapporo
#sapporo, Sapporo is the fifth largest city of Japan by population, and the largest city on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. It is the capital city of Hokkaido Prefecture, and is an ordinance-designated city.

Unagi (うなぎ) - GRILLED EEL Japanese Food at Obana Restaurant (尾花) in Tokyo, Japan!

Unagi (うなぎ) is freshwater eel and it’s a real delicacy in Japan. There are many many restaurant dedicated to serving only unagi, and in Tokyu you have plenty of choices. Thanks to my friend David ( I went to Obana Restaurant (尾花) which is a very highly rated, some say it’s the best, unagi in Tokyo.
What I like about Obana Restaurant (尾花) is that there are no reservations, so it’s first come, first serve, and it’s one of the classic Japanese food restaurants where you have to arrive early and wait in line for a chance to eat this legendary unagi. I arrived about 1 hour early, and already there were 20 people in the line in front of me. The wait was quite interesting, because as I was standing in line, a festival parade came walking right past.
The restaurant is within an old style Japanese building, with tatami floors, and you sit on the floor with a low table. They first steam the eel, and then grill it, and serve it in the lacquered box the traditional Japanese way.
I’ve had unagi before, but nothing compared to this unagi. It was absolutely exquisite, the most buttery perfectly cooked unagi I’ve ever had. Also, I liked how the sauce glaze was not overpowering like it sometimes can be, but it was light and just accented the wonderful eel.
Obana Restaurant (尾花) is not cheap, but the quality you get is mind-blowing.

Eating Osaka Japan! Kobe beef, udon, gyoza and much more!
If you'd like to hire me as an emcee or a magician, visit
Here's a quick preview of my food trip through Osaka. Cheryl and I were in Osaka for a week and we made a list of places to eat at beforehand. We fed deers in Nara Park, ate gyoza, spent time munching on tebasaki and fried cheese in an izakaya, had plenty of sushi and steaks including Kobe yakiniku-style, drank a ton of coffee, ate okonomiyaki, yaki-udon and so much more. One of the highlights for Cheryl was the udon at Umeda Hagakure. She loved it! The owner of the shop was very welcoming even though we entered the shop 5 minutes before closing time. He showed us the right method to eat udon noodles (always take two strands, and only two strands, from the middle and slurp them.) The Kobe beef was insane in Osaka but I had Ohmi beef in Kyoto just a week after and that was even better! - Nick
Rabbit above Rokko Cable, Kobe City, Japan
While walking back down the hill, I stopped to video record a bird. While being stationary and relatively quiet, a mountain rabbit (nousagi) came around the bend and headed uphill. It was evening, around 6:30 p.m. on June the 4th. Plenty of bugs about. Mammals are rare to see around the Kansai area of Japan.
