Fun in the Rain at Plymouth Rock & Plimoth Plantation - Plymouth, Massachusetts
We begin our exploring in the rain at Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Massachusetts where it is believed the pilgrims first stepped foot onto land in the area. Then, we drive to Plymouth Plantation, a living history museum that brings to life the stories of the first settlers. The kids were fascinated and loved walking around the villages, taking part in daily chores like cooking and mopping, and playing and singing with other pilgrim children.

The Plymouth Plantation
We often trace our Thanksgiving holiday back to the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony. It’s true they did have a feast of thanksgiving, but it seems to have been a one time event – an event about which we have very few clues…
Plimoth Plantation
Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth Massachusetts. A living history museum where you can interact with the participants and see what life was like in the late 16th century. They also have a building where they create arts, crafts, and food the way it was done 400 years ago.
Excellent place to visit if you come to Massachusetts. I arrived just when they opened so there wasn't that many people as of yet but when I left more people were arriving.

History of the Plymouth Settlement, 1608-1650 by William Bradford
Bradford's History of the Plymouth Settlement, 1608-1650 updated by Harold Paget, Published 1920. Bradford served as governor of the Plymouth Colony five times.
His eyewitness account includes the stories of the Pilgrims’ sojourn in the Netherlands, the voyage of the Mayflower, the hardships of the New World, relations with the Indians, and the colony’s growth from an endangered enterprise to a thriving city. This edition of Bradford’s Of Plimoth Plantation presents the text in language made more accessible to the modern reader
The Plimoth Plantation - More American History on the Learning Videos Channel
Plimoth Plantation is a living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts founded in 1947. The video features interviews with Plimoth Plantation interpreters. After viewing this video, students will come to understand what life was like for the early English settlers in America. Students will be able to imagine themselves in colonial times. This video is a part of Discovering the First Thanksgiving Lesson Plan.
It attempts to replicate the original settlement of the Plymouth Colony established in the 17th century by the English colonists who became known as the Pilgrims. They were among the first people who immigrated to America to seek religious separation from the Church of England. It is a not-for-profit museum supported by Administrations, contributions, grants, and volunteers. The re-creations are based upon a wide variety of first-hand and second-hand records, accounts, articles, and period paintings and artifacts, and the museum conducts ongoing research and scholarship, including historical archaeological excavation and curation locally and abroad.
In the 1624 English Village section of the museum, first-person interpreters have been trained to speak, act, and dress appropriately for the period, whereas third-person (or modern) interpreters have been trained to answer inquiries that guests may have which those in character are unable to answer while in their respective roles. At Plimoth Plantation, they are called historical interpreters, and they interact with their strange visitors (i.e., the modern general public) in the first person, answering questions, discussing their lives and viewpoints, and participating in tasks such as cooking, planting, blacksmithing, and animal husbandry.
The 1624 English Village loosely follows a time line, chronologically representing the calendar year 1624 from late March through November (the months when the museum is open), depicting day-to-day life and seasonal activities, as well as featuring some key historical events, such as funerals and special celebrations.
A Visit to Plymouth, MA/Interview with Plymouth County Register John Buckley
PART 1:
Owner Hugh Fitzpatrick and reporter Michelle Greene pay a visit to historic Plymouth, Massachusetts landmarks such as Plymouth Rock, the replica of the Mayflower, and Plimouth Plantation.
PART 2:
Hugh Fitzpatrick interviews John Buckley, Plymouth County Register of Deeds. The deeds at this particular registry go back as far as the 1620's. Land transactions go back as far the early colonists. Around 1627, the governor switched over to private property rights, which allows for a more productive society. This is when the recording of land records began.
The first colonial document laid out the land around the area where the Mayflower had landed, and those ownership locations are still marked by plaques today along that road.
The Plymouth Colony records have many of the original Pilgrims' names. People come from all around the world to do genealogical research to look up their ancestors. The placard above the entrance to the registry reads America's First Registry of Deeds, which has never been disputed.
Happy Thanksgiving from The Mayflower Ship in Plymouth, Massachusetts
Happy Thanksgiving holiday season from the Mayflower II 17th-century 1620 Pilgrim ship in Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA
The Mayflower was the ship that in 1620 transported mostly English Puritans and Separatists, collectively known today as the Pilgrims, from Plymouth England to the New World. There were 102 passengers and the crew is estimated to be approximately 30 but the exact number is unknown. This voyage has become an iconic story in some of the earliest annals of American history, with its story of death and of survival in the harsh New World winter environment. The culmination of the voyage in the signing of the Mayflower Compact is an event which established a rudimentary form of democracy, with each member contributing to the welfare of the community.
