Eureka Plumas Mine Camp Teaser Trailer
This is our picture gallery teaser trailer with music sorry but for some reason our documentary I made has been lost forever. I will however be returning soon to re-film everything and when I do this video will give our viewers something to look forward too. The Eureka Plumas Mine Camp sprung up around the early 1850's during the gold rush. When 36 men summated Eureka Peak they found gold on quartz ledges and in Jamison creek therefore tents sprung up and eventually a small town known as Jamison City nearby. Three mills were built which processed the gold mainly from the Eureka Tunnel and Jamison Mines. Gold production was said to be around 15 to 27 million which spanned from 1851 till WWII. The mine camp today is really one outdoor museum which has artifacts, blacksmith, assay office, old boarding house and the monolithic Mohawk Mill which at one time had sixty ore crushing stamps today in ruins. This mine camp has it all nature, scenery, history, mines, mills and quite a few structures. Its very well preserved and also haunted! We hope you enjoy the video of our exploration this is a place meant to be shared with the world as it truly is a gem and a real piece of wild western history nestled in the Plumas National Forest. This is an ancient place home to the Maidu who hunted and built villages here for thousands of years. The town or rather camp had about 300 residents, post office, saloons, stores etc but really what this area is known for is its the birthplace of skiing in the western hemisphere. In the 1860's miners would ski and snowshoe using Eureka Peaks trams which carried ore kegs to hoist them to the top where they reached speeds of 80mph!

Lake Davis on a windy day July 2019 CA - HD 4k drone video
Lake Davis is located about 7 miles north of Portola California in the Plumas National Forest, and is well known for excellent trophy trout fishing. This lake like Gold Lake in another video often has strong winds making drone flying difficult. My wife and I had a really good picnic lunch here enjoying the view of the lake. We were amazed at the number of beautiful painted lady butterflies in the area.

Portola is the only incorporated city in Plumas County, California, United States. The population was 2,104 at the 2010 census, down from 2,227 at the 2000 census.Portola is located on the Middle Fork of the Feather River, and was named after Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolá, despite his never having actually explored the surrounding area. The place name is generally mispronounced, with stress on the middle syllable, thus ignoring the accent mark in its namesake's surname.

Flooded Feather River in Portola

Model T Ford Museum Coming To Richmond
Richmond, Indiana (April 7, 2012) I had the rare and distinct honor of getting to spend some time and talk with Mr. Jay Klehfoth who is the is the CEO and publisher of the Vintage Ford Magazine today. I met him at what will be the new home for the Model T Ford Museum located in Richmond, Indiana's Historical Depot District.
The museum was formally located just west of Richmond in Centerville, Indiana next to the Warm Glow Candle Factory. The owners of the property where the museum was housed refused to extend the contract with the Model T Club of America that they had occupied for 5 years. Mr. Klehfoth said when the city of Richmond found out that the Model T Museum was in need of a new home the city pulled all the stops to make sure that Richmond became the new home for the Model T museum. This is a major loss to the city of Centerville but a major gain for the city of Richmond.
New Model T Ford Museum
The new Model T Ford Museum is going to be an exciting addition to what is one of Indiana's grandest historical areas and a must in this part of the Midwest. There will be new exhibits in addition to the ones that were on display in the former facility. The museum is a perfect fit in what is already the hub of Richmond's tourism district and will be a magnificent part of your visit when you're there. The grand opening for the new museum is targeted for June of this year.
Richmond is a perfect place for any day trip. But, if you want to see all that Richmond, Indiana has to offer you'll need to plan on staying several days.

Feather River Shortline #8 in Gold Hill at the Gold Hill Depot
This is a quick video showing the Feather River Shortline #8 at the Gold Hill Depot near Virginia City, Nevada. The #8 was repaired/restored by the Virginia and Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada.
First you see the #8 in the distance over Engineer Jerry Hoover's shoulder. As we pass by the Gold Hill Depot on the #29, you see the #8, closer, in all its primered glory. Then you see a quick fair use shot from a Channel 8 newscast of the #8 being run on the day it was delivered in later 2008. This shot is from John Tyson's journal. This is newsworthy and worthy of some fair use commentary. John Tyson is the President of the Feather River Shortline, despite the fact that this non-profit corporation has never been registered in Nevada, and is suspended in California. John told me last year he had reinstated Feather River Shortline in CA, but as with other cases we was not telling the truth.
In addition to being a reporter at Reno's Channel 8, John is also a V&T Commissioner. At a recent meeting, he had Kim Fegert, his CMO, stand up there and claim all sorts of outrageous things, including a claim that the locomotive was damaged heavily by the V&T Railroad. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad was using the #8 with permission of a guy named Boynton. When Boynton had a falling out with the museum in Portola, he took the locomotive to Virginia City apparently without the agreement of all the members of Feather River Shortline. For a more detailed history, see
When Boynton died, Michael Tackett became the Feather River Shortline #8's caretaker. Kim Fegert claimed that the negotiations between FRSL and the Virginia and Truckee Railroad are what killed Tackett. Regardless, Tackett's wife appointed John Tyson as President, and Tyson is now trying to get the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the Virginia and Truckee Railway Commission to let him run the #8 on the new tracks being built down to Carson City.
John has offered to fund-raise with the #8, despite the fact that he can't legally do so without reinstating FRSL in CA and registering FRSL as a foreign corporation in Nevada. As it is, #8 remains an asset of Feather River Shortline of California, but the remaining legitimate members have not taken action.
As you can read in this locomotive was never supposed to leave Plumas County, California. At the same time, it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere soon.
Once it was delivered to Gold Hill, it was shrink-wrapped for the 2008-09 winter, and for this winter of 2009-10, it remains exposed to the elements. It has been painted with primer and awaits a better fate.

Ken On Top Of Mt. Beckwourth, Portola, California on 11-23-07
Me and my Dad hiked to the top of Mt. Beckwourth at Portola, California on Nov. 23, 2007. We drove a jeep trail a bit over half way up and then parked at the gate and hiked the rest of the way. When I said I changed my mind in the beginning, it's just that I decided to keep hiking to the top after I rested a bit down from the peak. Sorry about the loud wind noise, my microphone picks that up easily.
