Costa Rica: Poás Volcano 2019 (A Live Volcano)
A live volcano in Costa Rica. Volcán en Costa Rica. May 2019.
Poas Volcano National Park Costa Rica
Poas Volcano National Park Costa Rica. Poas is an active volcano with frequent small geyser and lava eruptions. The last major eruptions at Poas Volcano were from 1952-54. The visitors center has interactive educational presentations and activities.
Although its activity is considerably different than Arenal Volcano, Poás is another of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. The colorful summit craters comprise a popular attraction, and are accessible by vehicle.
The 2,708 meter stratovolcano lies within two vast calderas. The southernmost of two summit crater lakes, Botos, is cold and clear, and last erupted about 7,500 years ago. The other is warm and acidic and has been the site of frequent eruptions since the first was reported in 1828. Eruptions often feature geyserlike ejections of lake water.

Hey Everyone. Volcan Poas aka Poas Volcano is one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica. Located a couple hours outside of San Jose and about 45 minutes outside the town of Alajuela, the Poas Volcano makes a great day trip in and of itself but because not too far away is La Paz Waterfall Gardens (which we also have a video on), another nice place to visit and you can do them both in the same day. Check out this video to get a glimpse of Volcan Poas.

The Poas Volcano in 2018
In April 2017 the Poas Volcano in Costa Rica started some serious eruptive activity. The National Park officials closed the popular park to visitors. The once famous Laguna Caliente was blown away. In March 2018 we descended the crater to have a look at what once a blue lake.

Poas Volcano National Park (Costa Rica tourism ????????)
Costa Rica is home to a great number of volcanoes — there are six active volcanoes and another 61 dormant or extinct ones.
The Poás Volcano, (Spanish: Volcán Poás), is an active 2,708-metre (8,885 ft) stratovolcano in central Costa Rica and is located within Poas Volcano National Park. It has erupted 40 times since 1828, including April 2017 when visitors and residents were evacuated.[2] The volcano and surrounding park were closed for nearly 17 months, with a 2.5 kilometer safety perimeter established around the erupting crater.[3] As of September 1, 2018 the park has reopened with limited access only to the crater observation area and requires a reservation to be made on the National Park Website. Adjacent trails to Lake Botos as well as the museum at the visitor center remained closed.
Explore these attractions in Costa Rica is very safe, find here an great article about Costa Rica safety.

Retire in Costa Rica
Poas Volcano on a great day. This particular day the clouds were not in the cone and you can see the sulfer pool at the bottom with steam rising from it. The smell of sulfer was oppressive and we hade to leave fairly quickly after arriving. This sulfer is causing acid rain in the surrounding area that is affecting crops.
Poás volcano
This beautiful national park is located in the northern Central Valley of Costa Rica.
The drive to Poás is an amazing landscape of shades of green coffee plantations, punctuated by flowers, sugar cane and strawberry fields. One can see the similarities with the Swiss landscape - Costa Rica was called the Switzerland of Central America in the 80's.
Sitting at 8,500 feet (about 2'600 meters) above sea level, the volcano is one of the few active craters in the Americas. Famous for its geyser-like eruptions of gas and ash, the main crater is an enormous pit 1.5 kilometers in diameter and 300 meters deep, making it one of the largest in the world. The crater is usually active with smoke discharges. At the bottom of the crater there is a hot, circular lagoon that measures 350 meters across, where water temperatures range between 104º F and 158º F (40 - 70 degrees C).
The beautiful green lagoon is an old crater. The landscape is stunning with the rain forest all around the volcano.
Costa Rica Adventure Tour, a Journey To Poas Volcano National Park
Costa Rica Adventure, a Journey To Poas Volcano National Park.
Poás Volcano is one of the major attractions in the Central Valley region and one of the most visited national parks in all of Costa Rica.
Poás volcano is a powerful symbol of the geothermal forces that formed Costa Rica. When the mist and clouds part you’ll see the sulfuric, bubbling, green rain fed lake at the bottom, surrounded by smoke and steam rising from fumaroles. Water from the lake is constantly seeping through cracks in the hot rock, evaporating and building pockets of steam.
