Pocharam Forest & Wildlife Sanctuary is located 15 km (9.3 mi) from Medak and 115 km (71 mi) from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. This sanctuary can be reached by private transport from Medak. Pocharam Forest was the favourite hunting ground of the Nizam and he declared it as a wild life sanctuary in the early part of 20th century.
Named after the Pocharam lake formed from damming of the Allair in the year 1916 - 1922, it is spread over 130 km2 (50 sq mi). Surrounded by lush green forest, it is rich in flora and fauna and attracts a lot of winged visitors, like the Bar-Headed Goose, Brahminy Bucks and Open Billed Stork.
There is a center for Eco-tourism where visitors can see five species of Antelopes and Deer. Summer temperature goes up to 46 C & in winter it drops to 6 C. The sanctuary is home to animals like Leopard, Forest Cat, Wild Dog, Wolf, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Sambar, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chital, and Four horned Antelope.[2]

Pocharam Dam & Wildlife Sanctuary:

At a distance of 5 km from Pocharam village, 16 km from Medak and 109 km from Hyderabad, Pocharam Dam & Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Medak district of Telangana. This is an ideal tourist place to visit from Hyderabad and spend few hours.
Pocharam Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 130 sq km. It was a former hunting ground of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Established in the year 1952, the sanctuary gets its name from the Pocharam Lake formed after the construction of Pocharam Dam on Alair river, a tributary of Manjira River.
The check dam is wonderful site with water flowing freely throughout the monsoon. This is a nice place to relax and play in the water.
The sanctuary is the homeland of various species of animals and birds. Panther, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Cheetal, Sambar, Nilgai, Chowsingha, Chinkara, Hyena and Jackal are the main attractions of the sanctuary. The river Manjira is the main river that adds life to the jungle. Crocodile, fresh water turtles, Cobra and Marsh can be located in this sanctuary.

Journey To Pocharam Wild Life Sanctuary By Dream initiative Productions

Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is a forest and wildlife sanctuary located 15 km (9.3 mi) from Medak and 115 km (71 mi) from Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Spanning over 130 square kilometres (50 sq mi), in the districts of Nizamabad and Medak,[2] it was a former hunting ground of the Nizam that was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the early 20th century. It is named after the Pocharam lake, formed from the bunding of the Allair from 1916-1922. The sanctuary has an ecotourism center for visitors. It is home to many species of birds and mammals.

The sanctuary is situated 100km from Nizamabad city.

The sanctuary has an Environmental Education Centre which consists of a museum, a library, and an auditorium. Films about birds and animals are shown daily. Boats are in operation to take the visitors around the sanctuary for bird watching.Binoculars and books on identification of birds are available to visitors.The museum has exhibits which depict the detail biodiversity of the manjeera wetlands.

The best season to visit the sanctuary is from November to March when major migrant birds nest and breed here. Accommodation for visitors is available in inspection bungalows at Sangareddy, Singur and Sadasivapet.

2.Pocharam Bird Sanctuary(Telangana):

Pocharam Bird Sanctuary is in Nizamabad District in telangana state,India.

Distance:
It is 115 kms from Hyderabad,15 kms from medak and 100 kms from Nizamabad.
We can reach here by road from medak.

3.Pranahita Bird Sanctuary(telangana):

Pranahita wildlife sanctuary is located in adilabad district,Telangana State,India.
The sanctuary is on the bank of pranahitha river.

It is 35 kms from Mancherial town.

November to April
There are Forest rest house at mancherial and chennur.

5.osmansagar lake:

Osman Sagar, popularly known as Gandipet, is a reservoir in the Indian city of Hyderabad. The lake is around 46 km², and the reservoir is around 29 km², with total level of 1,790 feet and a capacity of 3.9 tmc ft.


History

Osman Sagar was created by damming the Musi River in 1920, to provide an additional source of drinking water for Hyderabad and to protect the city after the Great Musi Flood of 1908. It was constructed during the reign of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Osman Ali Khan, hence its name.

A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake and now a heritage building, was built as a summer resort of the last Nizam. Its location on the banks of the lake offers wonderful views. Telangana Tourism Department [1] operates a resort in the building. The breeze of the lake is very pleasant and has been popular with the locals since the Nizam's time.
Tourist spot
It is a popular tourist destination, especially in monsoon season when the reservoir is full. Its parks, resorts, and amusement park are a major attraction.
