Accommodation in Mostar:
Počitelj is historic village and an open-air museum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in the municipality of Čapljina, in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The historic village is situated on the left bank of the river Neretva, on the main road Mostar-Metković, and it is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) to the south of Mostar and about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from center of Čapljina.
The village is built in a natural karst amphitheater along the Neretva river during the Middle Ages. The earliest mention of or recorded reference to Počitelj is in charters of king Alfonso V and Fridrich III from 1444 to 1448. However, the village most likely predate these documents. The exact date can't be pinpointed but it is likely that fortified town along with its complementary settlements was built by Bosnian king Tvrtko I sometime in 1383. Počitelj was considered the administrative center and center of governance of Župa Dubrava (county), while its westernmost point gave it major strategic importance. During the years following Ottoman conquest of Bosnian realm, between 1464 and 1471, the town was fortified by Vladislav Herzegović with a support of Dubrovnik, king Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and the Pope. From this point the walled town of Počitelj evolved in the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the stone-constructed parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution are evident: medieval, and Ottoman.

And woooh Everything is totally different
It is more like Muslim culture and turkish. Everything is so colorful and beautiful for me. I will show you
So so far from the border until here I did not see any church. There is only mosque like you see behind.
In the 14th century, the Hungarian-Croatian king Matijaš Korvin, together with the local nobility, built Počitelj fortress for the purpose of defending himself from the Turkish attack. and after 800 years Pocitelj fortres is still standing there in front of the devastation of time.
This is closest cultural and historical destination from Croatian border.
- Is this the high season of tourist here?
- Yes, this is the high season of tourist. For example, the most crowded tourist is the early morning up to 12 oclock. And then we have 2 or 3 hours less people. And after that they start again more with groups from Croatia, Mostar or other cities also. - But for us, cause our coffee is a bit strong
- Really strong
- And because of that we’d like to drink 1 or 2 of this small in the morning
- It is for sugar, Or in modern time, like for turkish, they like that for small sweet when they offer with coffee. But it is more like for sugar
- Instrument

The Medieval Town of Pocitelj, Bosnia & Herzegovina
The Medieval Town of Pocitelj, Bosnia & Herzegovina
►Read the blog:
In this episode David spends a morning exploring the charming medieval town of Pocitelj (PoÄitelj) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town itself dates back to 1444, but the height of its power was during the Ottoman occupation. The Ottomans were in eastern Europe for over 400 years!
Traces of their past can still be seen today, from the cobblestone streets they constructed to the beautiful minarets that watch over the town. Pocitelj is located on the wine road from Mostar to Neum, so it makes a perfect day trip from either one. You could even do a day trip to Pocitelj from Dubrovnik.
Things to see in medieval Pocitelj include exploring the ruins of the fortress and its walls, the Sisman Ibrahim Pasa mosque, the clock tower, and strolling the quaint cobblestone streets. Also take the time to admire the unique architecture of the local houses, which blends Asian and Mediterranean elements, common in classic Turkish architecture. The views of the Neretva River below are stunning.

Ich kann nur einen Trip nach Pocitelj empfehlen...
Počitelj is a beautiful medieval town situated 30km from Mostar, on the left bank of the river Neretva. Pocitelj is small but very beautiful town in Herzegovina. All houses are built out of stone so it has unique appearance. Houses are scattered up the hill that you need to climb if you want to visit Pocitelj fortress. View of the town from there is wonderful! In the architecture of Počitelj the Mediterranean and Oriental styles intertwine and they simply invite you to stop by and take a walk down the narrow cobbled streets, climb the stone stairs and explore some of the secrets of this mysterious fortress

The loveliest of cities. Right after Mostar then, it's a breath of fresh air. Empty, hardly any tourists and all the city is open for you to explore for free. Climb the walls, the ancient bastions, the fortifications. The main mosque is paid, and not sure totally worth it. It's quite a small town, you'll cover it in 1h and then you can choose between just a few restaurants close to the parking lot of get refreshed. Unmissable.
