Trekking Poike - Easter Island - Rapa Nui - Isla de Pascua - Mahinatur 2018
One of the least explored areas of the island. Poike is the first volcano that erupted about 3 million years ago. On top of it, different archaeological sites can be found, including moai, unrestored platforms, petroglyphs, and a wonderful sight of the entire Island from the north-east coast.
Poike on Easter Island
Poike is a volcanic headland that forms one of the triangular corners of Easter Island. It is exposed to the high winds and huge swells of the Pacific Ocean. The slopes of the extinct volcano end abruptly at huge cliffs that drop vertically to the sea. From the top you can see in all directions. If you look carefully you will see Rano Raraku where the Moai were carved and Ahu Tongariki with its 15 Moai. The wind is blowing a gale and shrieking in the video. No wonder most of the trees in the crater have been blown over.

Easter Island - Day Six
19th June 2018 - The last full day in Easter Island. Back to Anakena beach. We had breakfast there and took some shots of the Moai on this sacred location. Walking towards Papa Vaka where we left off from the second day we continued up the Poike Volcano where we risked the strong rains and wild cows to find ourselves on a red surface volcanic edge. After a quick lunch we headed on to Ahu Tongariki to camp out and take pictures of the Moai under the starlight. A great trek through what felt like a collection of environments all wrapped up into one island. Amazing view of Ahu Tongariki from the top of the volcano and the change of landscape was quite impressive.
Ahu Tongariki on Easter Island - Rapa Nui - Isla De Pascua
Ahu Tongariki is the largest ahu on Easter Island. Its moai were toppled during the island's civil wars and in the twentieth century the ahu was swept inland by a tsunami. It has since been restored and has fifteen moai including an 86 tonne moai that was the heaviest ever erected on the island. Ahu Tongariki is one kilometer from Rano Raraku and Poike in the Hotu-iti area of Rapa Nui National Park. All the moai here face sunset during Summer Solstice.

The Moai statue, which retains the secrets of Easter Island, has reached over 1,000 that have been unearthed so far. Why did you build so many moai? The first place we headed is Ranokau. It is a crater made of Easter Island volcanic activity and can be reached by car in the village of Hangaroa for about 15 minutes. Lanokau is the largest extinct volcano in the three Easter islands, Rano means volcano and cow means wide. The crater on the summit of 300 meters above sea level is 1.6 km in diameter and shows the volcanic activity of the ancient times. This is Ranokau. But the original name is Poko Poko Haumaka. There are three volcanoes on the island, and one of them is Ranokau. It's exactly what the crater looks like. There is Poike volcano there. And there is Rano Aroi district. The island of the triangle created by the eruption of the volcanoes is Rafanu. Ranokau's majesty comes as a surprise. Traveling here is filled with magical inspiration. We had to come here because this is an ancestral land. It is fantastic to be able to see the wonders of this nature.

Easter Island
Old mysteries
In 1722, the Dutch commander Jacob Roggeveen, with their sailors, disembarked of their 3 ships in an of the beaches of the island one day before Sunday of Easter. For that reason, on April 5, they baptized her with the name Easter Island.
The Island of Easter occupies an area of 390 Km², it is placed in the Polynesian, to Oceano Pacific's South and 3.700 km of distance of the coast east of Chile. Of volcanic origin it sends to the coalition of three volcanos. The oldest of them is Poike, with 3 million years, following for the volcano Rano Raraku, of 2.5 million years and finally, the newest, call of Maunga Terevaka (from 12.000 to 10.000 years).
The Island is famous for their enormous known stone statues as you Mill (heads gigantic slices in the volcanic rock). One of the largest mysteries of the you Mill, it is the fact of they belong all to the same type and only found at that island. The largest of the statues, the one of 22 meters, that the Giant is called

In average, the easter island statues are 3.9 meters high and weigh 14 tons. They are human figures with a masculine shape, sculpted in volcanic hardened rough ashes. The islanders called them Moai
The word “ahu” has 2 meanings in Easter Island culture. First, an ahu is the flat base of the stone where the moai are supported. The height of the ahu is around 1.20 meters. The word “ahu” also refers to a sacred ceremonial place where there are various supports for the moai.
Easter Island is called Rapa Nui in the local language. Rapa Nui refers to the island, its native people and the language they speak.
