#JustForTravel - Williamstown in a Minute
Made a trip to Williamstown from Melbourne just to chill out a bit. Weather wise was perfect sunny day. The train ride took around 30 minutes one way and I had a walk from Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park to Williamstown Beach along the coast and had dinner there. Just some highlights in the video!

Williamstown is located at the mouth of the Yarra River where it enters Hobsons Bay and Port Phillip, south-west of the Melbourne city centre.
Originally Melbourne's first sea port, Williamstown has developed from what was a neglected industrialised centre into a popular and fashionable maritime village.
Williamstown's attractive main commercial precinct is located along Ferguson Street and Douglas Parade. Around the corner in Nelson Place is what was originally the town centre, lined with historic buildings which are now restaurants, hotels and galleries.
Williamstown is surrounded on three sides by water. The eastern shoreline consists of foreshore reserves dotted with piers, gardens and remnants of Williamstown's maritime history. Scenic views of Melbourne's city skyline can be enjoyed from Gem Pier where cruises on the Yarra River and the bay depart regularly. The rocky south-eastern coastline consists of open parkland which includes the Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park. This park preserves the cultural heritage of the area with items of significance such as the old Fort Gellibrand military site which was first developed in 1860, and the Timeball Tower which was used by ships for timekeeping and navigation. Along the south-western coastline is Williamstown Beach which consists of a sweeping expanse of sand fronting sheltered swimming waters. Further west is Jawbone Reserve, a coastal wetland conservation area.

dive on the wreck of the Point Gellibrand Pile Light
fun dive on what remains of the Point Gellibrand Pile Light which was struck by a ship and then destroyed by fire in 1976 in Port Phillip Bay.
Ron from All About Scuba had sussed out the location. Tim & Anne provided the boat. At least 5 anchors were counted during the dive.
Camera work is a bit shaky as I had to use the Gopro just hand held.

An afternoon in Adelaide | Semaphore Beach | Jetty
Semaphore is a north-western seaside suburb approximately 14km from Adelaide. Semaphore’s white sands, family-friendly shallows and colourful foreshore make for a classic Adelaide beach escape.
Semaphore beach is deep and white and backed by low dunes rather than tall buildings, so you get a sense of being miles from anywhere.
Enjoy the expanse of green foreshore – two kilometres of public space preserved for what beach holidays are supposed to be all about. Fun! Play mini-golf, slither down the water slide, ride on the vintage carousel or ferris wheel, buy ice creams and fish and chips from a beachside kiosk, cycle on the bike track, and ride on the steam train that puffs along the shoreline.
Semaphore’s history isn’t confined to a museum. Even from the end of the jetty you can see the Timeball Tower, the oldest working carousel in the southern hemisphere, the glorious 1920s Palais bathing pavilion (now the Semaphore Palais hotel), historical buildings along Semaphore Road and the Ozone Theatre building.
Semaphore Road – one of Adelaide’s widest boulevards – is finding a new sense of style. Funky boutiques have opened their doors alongside famous ‘old salt’ pubs. Contemporary cafes are serving beneath the tin ceilings of century-old buildings. Indulge in high quality food in a beachside atmosphere, where fine dining and great pubs mix with quirky cafes and good old-fashioned fish and chips.
Want to wake in the morning to the sound of waves? Start the day with a swim. In the area you’ll find bed and breakfasts, apartments, a caravan park, heritage pub style hotel accommodation, student accommodation and even a converted church.
The Semaphore Street Fair on the last Sunday in November sees the community get together on Semaphore Road to celebrate everything Semaphore! Other events in Semaphore include the Summer Carnival on the foreshore during the summer school holidays, Semaphore Summer Twilight Markets Friday Friday nights January – March each year, New Year’s Eve and Australia Day fireworks, Greek Festival in January, and Semaphore Music Festival (October Long Weekend), Seaside Carols in Semaphore in December and Semaphore hosts Australia’s largest kite festival at Easter.
