Normandy 2012 Day 3. Battery Longues Sur Mer, Pointe Du Hoc.mp4
Hello YT-Community,
Today you are with us to one of the most historic places in Normandy. First off we visited the Battey of Longues Sur Mer which was one of the main objectives during the invasion campain. Longues sur Mer was equipped with 150 mm guns which could give direct fire on landing sectr OMAHA.
Next stop was Pointe Du Hoc where the 2nd Ranger Batallion landed under immense fire and high complicated terrain to take out the enemy gun positions. The US Rangers had heavy losses and their main objective turned out to be nothing more than just a handful of guns actually in place. Most of the bunkers were not equipped with guns at all. They paid a high price for capturing Pointe Du Hoc.
After the visit we called it a day in a little french village called Longueville.
I hope you enjoy our trip and stay tuned. Lots of more exciting footage and video material will be presented to you in the upcoming videos of our Normandy trip.
Thanks for watching and best regards,
Garry

D-Day Normandy: Pointe Du Hoc Bunkers and Batteries Walk Around Part 5/5
This is from the beaches of Normandy. Pointe Du Hoc over looked Omaha Beach on D-Day June 6 1944 during World War 2.
Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach - Normandy Coast, France
D-Day. June 6, 1944. The Allies launched an invasion of German-occupied France along the Normandy coast. At Pointe du Hoc, strategically located between Utah and Omaha Beach, soldiers established a foothold on French soil. Omaha Beach was one of five Normandy beach sectors where the Allies landed. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is located here.
The Allies also landed at Utah Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach. This was the largest invasion by sea in history, involving about 5000 vessels and 160,000 troops on D-Day, climbing to almost 900,000 by the end of the month.
D-Day marked the beginning of the end of World War II, and was a critical Allied success for pushing back Germany on the Western Front. It came at a high price. There were at least 10,000 Allied casualties including 4,414 confirmed dead just on the first day.
The beaches of Normandy are quiet today, occupied by memorials that pay tribute to those who fought and died to defeat Nazi Germany.
