Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History - Expansion project
Pointe-à-Callière, the City of Archaeology and History
When Pointe-à-Callière was first built, back in 1992, the Museum already had plans to preserve the remaining exceptional historic sites in Old Montréal and to create a world-class tourist attraction for the city of Montréal, the City of Archaeology and History based exclusively on the authenticity of these historic sites.
The overall goal is to create a nine-part museum and tourism complex on the Pointe-à-Callière site. In addition to the existing museum components, this will include opening the William collector sewer along a distance of 400 metres, creating a world-class exhibition space in the basement of the Customs Canada building, showcasing the remains of St. Ann's Market and the Parliament of the United Province of Canada, Fort Ville-Marie and Callière's Residence, and upgrading the Mariners' House.

1701, The Great Peace of Montreal - Part 1 of 3
1701, The Great Peace of Montréal web site ( invites you to explore a vast region -- northeastern North America -- at a time when a unique event was about to take place: a peace treaty was going to be signed between France and over thirty separate First Nations. This was a tremendous feat of diplomacy!
Native delegations gathered in the small town of Montréal in August 1701 to ratify a treaty that had required intense negotiations, particularly over the past year. It had been a very delicate task, and even now, with all the ambassadors gathered in Montréal, the outcome was not yet certain.
Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History, has mounted this virtual exhibition as a way of sharing this fascinating, little-known story that unfolded not far from the Museum's modern-day site. One of the central figures in the story is Louis-Hector de Callière, Governor of Montréal and later of New France.

Yours Truly, Pointe-à-Callières Museum - A multimedia journey through time [DEMO]
In 2010, Moment Factory partnered with GSMprjct and Sid Lee to bring one of Montreal’s most cherished historical exhibitions into a new era. Yours Truly, Montreal is one of Pointe-à-Callière museum’s star attractions, a multimedia show that takes viewers on a historical journey unlike any they have ever seen.
This show was a terrific opportunity to bring out our love of working with found spaces: incorporating the character already present as part of the set design and working that architectural presence into the overall feel of the show. In this case, we had both the opportunity and challenge to project directly on to the ruins – authentic witnesses of the city’s history. To embellish the impressive ruins without upstaging them, we added a series of screens that wrap 270 degrees around viewers. Our approach to the content integrated graphic, light, and sound treatment. Under an artistic direction that prioritizes historical realism, the images and documents featured in the show were showcased with respect to their authenticity. The Moment Factory team worked with a delicate graphic touch to bring a new vibrant look and aesthetic cohesion to the project.
In addition to the 18-minute show that will run for 10 years, the project included the remodeling of an event space, the museum’s website, and the production of a book on the show. Yours truly, Montreal offers a fascinating immersive experience where projection technology and artistry sends viewers to the heart of historical action in Montreal. By wrapping viewers in a dynamic storytelling scenario that features real historical artifacts and documents, the viewer relives great moments that shaped the city.

Park Avenue Montreal (officially in French: Avenue du Parc) is one of central Montreal's major north-south streets. It derives its name from Mount Royal Park, by which it runs. Between Mount Royal Avenue and Pine Avenue, the street separates the eastern side of the mountain park and the smaller Jeanne Mance Park (formerly known as Fletcher's Field and often referenced as such in Montreal literature)Park Avenue Le Plateau-Mont-Royal - Avenue du Parc 2.jpg
Park Avenue near Pine Avenue Native name French: avenue du Parc Location Montreal South end Sherbrooke Street North end Jean Talon Street South Bleury Street South of Sherbrooke Street, the street's name changes to Bleury Street, and south of Saint Antoine Street in Old Montreal, the name changes again to Saint Pierre Street. The northern end of Park Avenue is at Jean Talon Street, at the location of the former Canadian Pacific Railway Park Avenue station, which now serves the Parc Metro and commuter train station. There is also a short stretch of Park Avenue between Crémazie Boulevard and Chabanel Street.[5]
In 1883, a request by English-speaking citizens was filed with the City of Montreal to name this street Park Avenue (in reference to Mount Royal Park, inaugurated in 1876). It was always officially referred to by its English name, Park Avenue, until September 29, 1961, when its French name, Avenue du Parc, was officially recognized.
In 1937, the government planned to change the name of the street to Marconi Street, but decided to keep its current name following protests by citizens.
A similar event occurred on October 18, 2006 when Mayor Gérald Tremblay proposed to rename Park Avenue (along with Bleury Street) in honour of former Quebec premier Robert Bourassa. On November 28, Montreal City Council voted in favour (40-22) of the motion.[6] If the Commission de toponymie du Québec had approved the change, Park Avenue and Bleury Street in their entirety would have been renamed Robert Bourassa Avenue. The proposal was controversial, especially in light of the historical nature of the name.[7] (The STM's Parc Metro and RTM commuter rail station were to remain Parc due to a moratorium on renaming metro stations.[8]) After Bourassa's family publicly expressed reservations about the controversy, Tremblay announced on February 6, 2007 that he would not pursue the issue further and that the council would be presented with a motion to withdraw the resolution made November 28. (A section of University Street was eventually renamed in honour of Bourassa, instead.)
In 2005, a C$25 million project began to transform the intersection of Pine Avenue and Park, known as the Pine-Park Interchange. Both Park and Pine Avenues remained open while the interchange was being demolished. It was replaced in the summer of 2006 with a more traditional Autoroute 415.
