Singapore Zoo Polar Bear - Meet Inuka in the Frozen Tundra
Chill out at Singapore Zoo's Frozen Tundra and come visit Inuka, the world’s first polar bear born in the tropics.
Watch Inuka (Inuit for Silent Stalker) swim around his ice-cold pool or chill in his freezing cave from the viewing gallery in the frozen tunnel. Don't forget to say hi to Inuka's neighbours - raccoon dogs and wolverines, both native to sub-arctic environments.
Born in 1990 at the Singapore Zoo, Inuka currently lives in the zoo's specially designed Frozen Tundra area - modeled after a polar bear's natural Arctic habitat for better living conditions and welfare amidst Singapore's tropical climate.
Explore Singapore Zoo and see more of its resident animals. You can even have a breakfast with the orangutans !
*The Frozen Tundra was built following recommendations by the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society [ACRES] to improve the welfare of Singapore Zoo's polar bear.

River Safari opens to public during soft launch - 03Apr2013
SINGAPORE: The River Safari opened to the public for the first time on Wednesday.
Not all its attractions are open yet, but visitors were undeterred, making themselves among the first to visit Singapore's newest wildlife park.
The soft opening saw school children, tourists, and families among the first to enter the park.
The 12-hectare park is home to one of the world's largest collections of freshwater creatures, including the giant river otters, the electric eels and the manatees.
The manatees, also known as the sea cows, were the first to move into the River Safari from the Singapore Zoo.
The two parks are next door to each other, but it took a team of 20 veterinarians and zookeepers two whole days to move the large mammals into their new home.
Aquatic ballet aside, the park offers a healthy dose of the outdoors.
What's arguably a central feature of the River Safari is the Upper Seletar Reservoir, one of Singapore's largest.
The theme park is built around the catchment area, which provides a magnificent setting and another viewing gallery for wildlife.Migratory birds are a common sight there.
And back in the cooler indoors, giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai remain a big draw.
Stephen Mason, a tourist, said: We've been to the zoo before, really enjoyed the zoo but now that we've been a few times, it's a new exhibit. The panda obviously is very interesting to see, we've never seen one before.
But their lesser known neighbours, the red panda, are possibly the star attractions.
Of the park's 300 animal species, 42 are endangered. Most are under a captive breeding programme, with the hope of adding to their numbers worldwide.

Polar Bears Underwater
The Toronto Zoo polar bears were playing in the water on a really hot day. I totally LOOOOVE polar bears, so I'm glad I caught this on the day I went :D
The Unsung Heroes of the Arctic - Ep. 3 | Wildlife: The Big Freeze
Polar bears dominate the Arctic animal headlines; it’s hard for anything to escape their shadow. In this episode we meet an unexpected array of smaller species that each have their own peculiar but no less entertaining strategies for surviving in this brutal environment. The tiny arctic fox might look cute, but it’s actually a killing machine. The arctic hare may be fluffy and have comical ears, but it’s both a master of camouflage and one of the fastest animals here. The snowy owl has sacrificed speed for a mightier secret weapon: silence. We find a lemming (a tiny brown rodent) running around in a blizzard, a big mistake when silent assassins are flying overhead. Although these unsung heroes are some of the few who’ve perfectly adapted to this place, the environment is changing fast. Warming temperatures are allowing enemies to move north, encroaching on these Arctic specialists.

Follow Me To The Rainforest Lumina at Singapore Zoo
The video was taken last year when I went to check out the rainforest lumina. It was a treat from my friend. The visit was amazing. Initially, I thought it will be boring but it was really magical. I thought I was transported to another world with fairies. Definitely worth the trip here. :)

Making Farinha in the Amazon
Deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest — reached by a flight into the jungle, a two-hour boat trip, a pickup truck transporting 31 people in the bed despite a downpour, and a half-hour walk — five Notre Dame MBA students and two faculty advisers are learning how to turn mandioca root into a local starch product called farinha.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
On this festive occasion, Science Centre Singapore wishes all our fans a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This short stop motion animation is dedicated to all of you.
A mother polar bear loses two of her cubs in Science Centre Singapore. In her search for these cubs, she came face to face with a dinosaur, braved the Waterworks and scoured through the Eco Gardens before being directed by Einstein to the Candy Unwrapped gallery where the cubs were found enjoying the exhibits. They gathered in happiness and we hope all of you do too this festive season!
