Spitfire Flying Over Northholt Polish Memorial
It is situated beside the A40/A4180 roundabout junction near RAF Northolt in South Ruislip in the London Borough of Hillingdon. We came together in friendship and visited Northolt and gathered at the Polish War Memorial in South Ruislip on Saturday 7th September 2013 to commemorate the Polish airmen who gave their lives whilst serving with the RAF in WW2. The ceremony was attended by Newark Town Mayor. RAF Northolt has historic links with the Polish Air Force but these have been rekindled in recent years to the benefit of both air forces.
I was happy to attend, it was a joy.

#BoBPoles: Polish veterans at RAF Northolt
13 June 2015 at RAF Northolt, Ruislip, London
The #BoBPoles campaign was launched at the RAF Northolt Centenary Open Day, which was attended by a number of Polish veterans and their families.
Among those present was Colonel Franciszek Kornicki - one of two surviving No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron pilots and the last surviving wartime Polish Air Force squadron commander who led No. 308 and No. 317 squadrons in the years following the Battle of Britain.
145 Polish fighter pilots served in the Battle of Britain in 302 and 303 Polish squadrons as well as in British units.
Out of the overall number of fighter pilots from Allied countries, they constituted the second largest contingent after the British.
By the end of the war, almost 20,000 Polish airmen and airwomen were serving in the Polish Air Force in Britain.
As part of the #BoBPoles project, the Polish Embassy co-financed the repainting of an historic Hurricane in the legendary No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron paint scheme. Together with an original Spitfire flown by No. 315 and No. 317 pilots, including Col Kornicki, it will take part in a number of Battle of Britain 75th anniversary events throughout the summer. We, at Coastlands Local History Group,
are immensely touched that so many of you are joining us to
commemorate the crew of Wellington Bomber HX384. We feel it
is very fitting that at both the Memorial in St Peters
Church, Marloes, to all the Polish Aircrew who gave their
tomorrows, and at the grave of individual Airmen in Newark,
The Act of Remembrance will be enacted at the same time. It
is very reassuring to know so many people still feel the
need to make the effort to attend such a ceremony. If any of
you are ever in Dale we would be delighted to welcome you to
The Old Stables Heritage Centre, where the propeller from
HX384 will be in pride of
place.

It was 24 years ago in 1991 that divers of the Llantrisant Diving Club, Glamorganshire, found the aircraft wreck and salvaged the two propellers one of which was later transported, together with a machine gun recovered at the same time, to Poland and is prominently displayed at the Polish War Museum in Warsaw. The other propeller, now destined for Dale, was for several years part of a small museum in Abergavenny.
Recently recovered from a garden the Abergavenny propeller has been gifted by Mr. Steve Jones to the Heritage Centre where it will go on permanent display accompanied by a brief history of 304 Squadron; a description of the Wellington bomber; details of the crash and photographs of the crew who perished when the aircraft crashed.

Footage taken on 11 November 2015, in Formby, Merseyside, UK.

Ujęcia podjęta w dniu 11 listopada 2015 roku, w Formby, Merseyside, Wielkiej Brytanii.
During the 2nd World War, Polish Air Crews came to the newly opened RAF Woodvale, to try and keep Liverpool Docks and the surrounding areas safe from bombers. Sadly, not all the airmen survived and some of them now rest in a Roman Catholic Churchyard, in War Graves, at the rear of Our Lady's Church, Formby, UK. The first part of this video footage was taken at a simple service, which followed on from the main commemoration service in the Village Centre. Both are held annually, on 11 November.
