5 BEST Polish food to try in Krakow
#PolishFood #KrakowFood #KrakowStreetFood #StreetFood #FoodVlogs
Consider this your essential Polish Food guide. Polish Street food is great, there is a large variety and all very delicious and fairly cheap. The best Polish street food can be found in Krakow, which is the most visited Polish city. The variety and selection of Polish food in Krakow is amazing. One of the best ways to experience Krakow is through the Polish food varieties and the Polish street food on offer. In this video we will take you on a tour of the best Polish street food options in Krakow.
Best Polish food in Krakow:
-Obwarzanki: There are street carts all over Krakow serving these inexpensive bagels. Usually served with poppy seeds, but also available topped with cheese or sesame seeds.
-Pierogi: This is the typical Polish Dumpling which can be found in most restaurants serving Polish Food in Krakow. Pierogi can be filled with either sweet or savoury fillings. You can also buy pierogi at the grocery store or markets, which you can make at home.
-Polish Donuts / Polish pączki: These are lighter and fluffier than American Donuts. These are cooked with a small amount of alcohol which results in less oil being absorbed.
-Zapiekanka at Plac Nowy: Zapiekanka is essentially a large piece of flat bread with various toppings, very similar to a Pizza.
-Żurek (a Polish Rye Soup): This is a bitter polish soup with egg and smoked sausage, often served in a bread bowl.
-Lody / Polish Ice Cream: There are so many ice cream shops in Krakow. The Polish ice cream has a higher fat content, so tends to be more creamy than in other countries. Well worth a try, especially during hot days. Here is a link to a blog with some good ice cream places:
Krakow has many excellent restaurants. There are many Michelin guide mentioned restaurants in Krakow. We went to three different restaurants. Here is the list of Michelin guide mentioned restaurants in Krakow:
Note: I personally chose and paid for all the food in this video. None of the content is sponsored.

We Tried Delicious Polish Food in Krakow, Poland
It's our final day here in Poland and so many of you said that you cannot leave Poland without heading towards Krakow to try some tasty Polish food.
We woke up super early to catch the train from Warsaw to Poland (which takes around 3 hours to do). Upon arrival we started looking for a yummy breakfast snack and if you're in Krakow you need to try Obwarzanek krakowski which is the Krakow bagel.
After exploring the largest old town market square in Europe we headed out to find some Polish street food a Zapiekanka which totally reminded Jess of her childhood.
After all these savory snacks we wanted something sweet and you guys know we love trying donuts from around the world - so we had to have a pączek from Stara Pączkarnia.
Before we catch our train back to Warsaw we needed a proper lunch so we went to Bar Targowy to have some Polish Dumplings.

Polish Your Cooking Tour Part 4 - Warszawa - Poland - May 2018
EATING Traditional Food and Street Food in Poland ???? Incredible Polish Food Tour in Kraków
Wondering what to eat in Poland? Well this video is for you. We found the best Polish dishes. This is our last video in Poland (for this trip), so we decided we had to do a full eating Polish Food video. We decided to concentrate on both Polish Street foods and some traditional Polish dishes!
To start things off we decided to try a sweet treat, called Pączki. Pączki are essentially glazed filled donuts. The one we picked came with lemon zest and fruit filling.
Our second spot on our food tour took us to a nice cosy restaurant where we were able to try a couple of dishes. One was a delicious soup called Zalewajka (the restaurant also had the same name) which was made from sour dough, potatoes, dill and bacon. The other dish we had there was one of the most famous dishes from Poland, Pierogi! Although you can get so many different types and variaties we opted to stick with one of the most traditional which comes filled with potato, cottage cheese and bacon.
On our next stop we took a break from food to try some Polish vodka! We found a cosy little bar that had lots of options, so we tried regular vodka with some lemon juice squeezed in as well as coffee, cherry and rose flavours.
Our last stop on our DIY food tour took us to an outdoor market where we tried a couple of things! One was a traditional Polish sausage called Kielbasa, it was served with bread and mustard. And the very last thing we tried was an open-faced sandwich called zapiekanka. Zapiekanka was traditionally served as a baguette with mushrooms, cheese and ketchup on top but nowadays you can get all sorts of different kids. Our had sausage, mushrooms, cheese, garlic sauce and crispy onions.
ABOUT POLISH FOOD
Polish cuisine is a style of cooking and food preparation originating in or widely popular in Poland. Polish cuisine has evolved over the centuries to become very eclectic due to Poland's history and it shares many similarities with neighbouring Czech and Slovak culinary traditions.

We found a restaurant called Pierogarnia - Słowiańska Uczta on our first full day in Krakow after shopping for some groceries just across the street. All in all we tried 40 different pierogi for this video including savory and dessert options. It was a feast of feasts.

Polish Food - Eating Pierogi taste test in Krakow, Poland travel food video transcript:
So it is our first day here in Poland in Krakow. In Krakow.
And anyways we've got Pierogi on our minds. We are going to get pierogies. Oh and we're so hungry. We even we're even crossing the river to go find it today. We've been willing to cross a river to go have pierogi. That shows how dedicated we are.
This is awesome. Like this is a gigantic menu just outside of the restaurant here.
So we are kicking off our first full day in Krakow with pierogies. What else?
The most popular Polish dish. This is something that everyone knows about. Even in Canada we've got like frozen pierogi. So it is popular.
They are not nearly as good as the freshly made ones. No. Here in Poland. But yeah. It is something that kind of we are kind of subsisting off of pierogies in the winter in Canada. Yes. When we were in Kingston a few years ago.
It is like a really hearty meal. You know when it is cold out and you just need something that is going to fill you up and sit there for a few hours. Pierogi always a good idea.
But it is summer here but we're still going to have them anyways. We're still having it. Yeah. And actually we had some yesterday at the train station but it was just like a quick little snack and it wasn't amazing.
This place literally specializes in them. This is their menu. And we spotted this place yesterday when we were heading to our apartment so we like we're coming back. We placed four orders.
And each order comes with 10 pierogi so that is 40 pierogies that we're going to be eating for just 2 of us. 20 each!
So 20 plump savory dumplings have showed up at our table.
So we ordered two savory kinds. I think the first one was the Ruskie. Ruskie or something which is the traditional one which is like mashed potatoes and cheese.
And the other one we got fancy. We got like mushrooms, feta and something else. No, wasn't it walnuts or something?
So yeah oh and it comes with like caramelized onions on top. Wow. So let's try this.
We ate 40. We ate 40 pierogi. I feel like we deserve a gold medal in like the gluttony olympics or something.
That was I wonder what the record is?
How many pierogies. Has one person ate. Did we just break a Guinness World Record here?
But that was pretty much the ultimate pierogi taste test. Two savories, two dessert pierogi. I mean if you're going to try Polish food you absolutely have to try pierogi. And we really lucked out with this place. We didn't find it in a guidebook or even a recommendation we just while we were getting groceries last night and we walked by it.
That is going past. Anyways, yeah that maybe they are coming to rescue me because my belly is about to explode.
But anyways yeah I think we'll be coming back here for sure. We've got a whole week ahead of us. We'll be coming back here for pleasure and uh yeah pierogi in Poland guys.
You've got to try it. And price point for this meal?
So it was 56 Zloty which roughly is 13 Euros and that included our two drinks and 40 pierogi.
Yeah, it was pretty good value as well. Now time for a nap. Time for an enormous siesta.
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture and Polish cuisine.

Krakow's Budget Delicacies
If you're heading to Poland, and Krakow in particular, there are two things you need eat. 1) Zepeikanki: aka the ultimate pizza baguette 2) Perogies or Polish dumplings.
The beauty of the cities is only rivaled by it’s traditional fare. In Kazimierz, Krakow’s Jewish quarter, Polish Jew’s are rediscovering their rich traditions and cuisine. At street side cafes you’ll find the most delicious Kosher Polish fusion in the world. Definitely try the Perogies, Polish dumplings filled with cabbage and potatoes.
Just a few blocks away in Ploc Nowy, the ‘hipster’ square, you’ll find vodka bars (aka Bania Luka) and beer gardens with drink and food all for just 75 cents a glass/plate. Be sure to try a Zapoekanka, Krakow’s ultimate drunk people food. It’s basically a huge French oven pizza smothered with mushrooms and cheese, and whole lot of ketchup on top for just 1$.

Polish Food and Vodka Tour in Kraków
We went on a food and vodka tour in Kraków that was a great introduction to Polish cuisine. From street food to gourmet fusion, we ate our way through Kraków and even had time to try a Balkan specialty.
Ed Red, our pick from the food tour:
Szambelan homemade vodka:
Balkan Express Grill:
*Note: Some food/restaurants shown were not included in our Eat Polska food tour - they were just ones we found ourselves.
