About the Pomeroy Sport Centre
Fort St. John's newest recreation complex, the Pomeroy Sport Centre, is a beautiful ice facility and sport event centre unparalleled in British Columbia. It has been designed to create a lasting legacy that will shape the future of the Energetic City for years to come. It is a centre of excellence for sport, promotes community and personal wellness, and provides an attractive venue for events appealing to a wide range of interests.
The first floor of this three floor facility features 2 NHL sized ice rinks, a concession, skate sharpening vendor, 12 dressing rooms, and a public meeting room.
The second floor is home to a Booster Juice outlet, a meeting room, and has one of only four indoor Olympic-sized long track speed skating ovals in North America. Made with a concrete base, this level can also be used for other events with 60,000 square feet of usable space during non-ice seasons. The Olympic sized long track speed skating oval is 1 of 4 in North America - others being in Utah, Wisconsin and Calgary.
The third floor of this facility is home to the Northern Vac Track. The walking track is 340 meters around with heated tubing throughout. There are lockers located along the side of the walking track to allow for client storage for its patrons to use free of charge as long as they bring their own lock. Council made a decision in the fall of 2009 to always have the track free for the public to enjoy.
Our remarkable facility also has the ability to have all ice surfaces removed during non-ice seasons to accommodate major indoor sport and cultural events, tradeshows, and more. The total event space available is in excess of 140,000 square feet.

Fort St. John Neighbourhood Learning Centre Becomes Reality

When the Peace River North school district applied for funding through the Building Canada Fund, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure had to reject the application based on eligibility requirements.
However, ministry staff members were so impressed with the Neighbourhood Learning Centre project that they worked with the school district, the City of Fort St. John and the Ministry of Education to make it happen.
The school district needed to accommodate increasing enrolment, due in part to a new full-day kindergarten program. Instead of purchasing modular classroom infrastructure, they received funding to develop classroom space for high school students at Fort St. John's Enerplex Sport Centre. The costs were similar, but there were many social benefits and environmental efficiencies with the alternative solution. Namely, students have access to the sports facilities and the sport centre was upgraded with fewer resources.
