Aschaffenburg (German pronunciation: [aˈʃafənbʊɐ̯k] ) is a city in northwest Bavaria, Germany. The town of Aschaffenburg is not considered part of the district of Aschaffenburg, but is the administrative seat.
Aschaffenburg belonged to the Archbishopric of Mainz for more than 800 years. The city is located at the westernmost border of Lower Franconia and separated from the central and eastern part of the administrative district by the Spessart hills, whereas it opens towards the Rhine-Main plain in the west and north-west. Therefore, the inhabitants speak neither Bavarian nor East Franconian but rather a local version of Rhine Franconian.

Schloss Johannisburg is a schloss in the town of Aschaffenburg, in Franconia in the state of Bavaria, Germany. It was erected between 1605 and 1614 by the architect Georg Ridinger (de) for Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, Prince Bishop of Mainz. Until 1803, it was the second residence of the Prince Bishop of Mainz. It is constructed of red sandstone, the typical building material of the Spessart, the hills near Aschaffenburg.
The castle is one of the main attractions of Aschaffenburg and its landmark. Schloss Johannisburg is one of the most important buildings of the Renaissance period in Germany. [1]
Schloss Johannisburg is open to the public and hosts several museums: Staatsgalerie Aschaffenburg, a gallery of paintings (with works by Lucas Cranach the Elder), the Paramentenkammer of the palace chapel (with vestments from the former treasury of Mainz Cathedral), the residential rooms (furnished in Neoclassical style) and the Municipal Palace Museum (arts and handicraft). There is also the world's largest collection of architectural models made from cork, built by court confectioner Carl May and his son after 1792.

Das Schloss ist eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke der deutschen Renaissance und dominiert das Stadtbild von Aschaffenburg. Es wurde zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts anstelle der zerstörten mittelalterlichen Burg errichtet, von der sich noch der Bergfried erhalten hat.
Seit 1972 ist hier ein Teil der städtischen Sammlungen ausgestellt. Gezeigt werden Skulpturen der Schlossbauzeit, Stadtansichten, Zunftgeräte und Möbel. Herausragend sind die Sammlungen deutscher und ausländischer Keramik, v.a. Fayence, Steinzeug und Porzellan. Eine lokale Besonderheit ist die reiche Sammlung an Steingut der Dammer Manufaktur. In der Gemäldesammlung stechen die Werke der klassischen Moderne von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner und Christian Schad hervor.
Im Schloss ist auch die Staatsgalerie, die größte Außenstelle der bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlungen, zu bewundern. Sie verfügt über die bedeutendste Cranach-Sammlung Europas. Außerdem finden Sie hier die staatliche Hofbibliothek, die Schlosskellerei und die Schlossweinstuben.

Die große SUV-Premiere im Schloss Johannisburg
Das letzte Wochenende im September stand im Zeichen der SUVs. Im Aschaffenburger Schloss Johannisburg präsentierte Kunzmann die neuen Modelle von Mercedes-Benz und über 3.000 Besucher flanierten an beiden Tagen durch den Schlossinnenhof. Neben dem neuen GLC, dem neuen GLE und dem neuen GLE Coupé wurde auch die neue Generation der A-Klasse vorgestellt.
Das Fazit dieser gelungenen Veranstaltung: tolle Gäste, tolle Autos, tolles Wetter!
