Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah - Ponderosa Point HD (2013)
Bryce Canyon National Park is a national park located in southwestern Utah in the United States. The major feature of the park is Bryce Canyon, which despite its name, is not a canyon but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to geological structures called hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange, and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views for park visitors. Bryce sits at a much higher elevation than nearby Zion National Park. The rim at Bryce varies from 8,000 to 9,000 feet (2,400 to 2,700 m).
The Bryce Canyon area was settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s and was named after Ebenezer Bryce, who homesteaded in the area in 1874. The area around Bryce Canyon became a National Monument in 1923 and was designated as a National Park in 1928. The park covers 35,835 acres (55.99 sq mi; 145.02 km2) and receives relatively few visitors compared to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon, largely due to its remote location.

Red Canyon, Dixie National Forest , Utah, United States, North America
Red Canyon is located along Scenic Byway 12, just 9 miles from Bryce Canyon. Passing through it is required to get to Bryce Canyon National Park from the west. From the east, stay on Highway 12, past the junction of highways 12 and 63 for 9 miles, to find Red Canyon. As part of Dixie National Forest, rather than a national park or monument, there are no entry fees to drive through or hike in Red Canyon. Red Canyon, a spectacular oasis of rock nested in a vast forest known to locals as Dixie. The two-million acre, 170 mile long forest ranges from Red Canyon's arid desertscape of sandstone hoodoos to a lush high altitude forest on Cedar Mountain. When thinking of Southern Utah, many think of red sandstone. Red Canyon has this in abundance. Cooler summers and crisp winters characterize the Red Canyon recreation area. Red Canyon is set at 7400' and provides a prime area for cross country skiing, cool summer hiking, horseback riding and ATV trails. The Red Canyon Visitor Center was completed in the winter of 2004. It is located along Highway 12 and is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Information is offered inside on hiking, ATV trails, 4WD trails, horse trails and the beautiful paved bike trail that runs through Red Canyon. There are some fun hikes in Red Canyon including the Birds Eye Trail. This is a moderate .8 mile hike that takes hikers up close to red rock formations. The 3 mile Losee Canyon Trail takes hikers past some select rock formations.Like Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon is open year-round. Southwestern Utah is the ideal place for year-round recreation. The seasonal Red Canyon Campground is shaded by ponderosa pines, junipers and Douglas firs. The 35 site campground usually closes the first day of October and opens again May first. The charge for camping is $11 per day. There are tables, grills, group sites, flush toilets, showers and a few RV pull throughs.
Cassidy Losee Canyon in Red Canyon, Dixie National Forest, Utah
The Red Canyon's Cassidy Canyon trailhead is at about 7000 feet elevation along Scenic Highway 12 in Utah, and connects to the Casto Canyon and Losee Canyon trails. The loop with Losee Canyon is about 14 miles. Vermilion-colored rock formations and Ponderosa pines provide a fascinating surroundings.

In peak season you can make a reservation for the campground. In other seasons there always will be open spaces, but watch out it can be very cold then.
We travelled with a RV (Cruise America) and there was room enough for the van.
What more to say about this park (it's our favorite in Southwest USA).
Red Canyon Utah
Red Canyon in Southern Utah is on the way to Bryce Canyon and 9 miles west of it. There is no entry fee to visit Red Canyon. Red-colored rock formation and Ponderosa pines trees make the Red canyon exceptionally scenic. The rocks in Red Canyon ere composed of red orange sandstone and are eroded into fare tail shapes. It is a lot like Bryce Canyon but in smaller scale. If you are on your way to Bryce Canyon national park take some time to stop by Red Canyon. One to two hours will be enough to take a nice walk in Red canyon and to enjoy it. There are short trails that will take you inside that Red Canyon; it is not overcrowded with visitors.

Family Road Trip: Bryce Canyon National Park // Utah, Episode 5
Our family of 5's first road trip since deciding to travel to all 50 states! On day 6 of our trip, we drove North from Kanab, Utah to Bryce Canyon National Park. Despite its name, it is not a canyon, but a collection of hoodoos in giant natural amphitheaters. Hoodoos are distinctive rock formations eroded by snow melt and rainfall over many years. The area is named after Ebenezer Bryce who settled in the area in 1874.
We hiked Mossy Cave Trail to a waterfall and stopped at viewpoints at Swamp Canyon, Bryce Point, Paria View, Bryce Natural Bridge, Black Birch Canyon, Ponderosa Canyon, Rainbow Point, and Inspiration Point.

THE ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST ROAD TRIP | USA'S TOP NAT'L PARKS | WHERE TO NEXT VLOG
Here's a recap of our 6 day road trip around Utah and bordering states!
Our itinerary from Las Vegas:
Day 1: Zion National Park - we hiked through the narrows and did the drive from the west side entrance to the east side entrance. We spent the night 'glamping' (glamorous camping) in Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort.
Day 2: A hike through Kanarraville Falls in the morning followed by a scenic drive to the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon. We watched the sunset along the Northern Rim at the Lodge where we ate on the outside viewing deck overlooking the canyon. We then drove through the evening to Lone Rock Beach Primitive Campground just outside of Page, Arizona.
Day 3: An early morning excursion through Antelope Canyon followed by an afternoon trip to Horseshoe Bend. We left with enough daylight so that we could see Monument Valley on the way to Cortez, Colorado for the night. We also drove through the 4 Corners Monument.
Day 4: Another scenic drive to Arches National Park. We spent the day at Arches and then drove to Salina, Utah for the night. There are so many scenic views on this drive so we are glad we still had some daylight to check them out.
Day 5: A hike through Capitol Reef National Park as well as a scenic drive through the park in the morning followed by a beautiful Bryce Canyon sunset. We wanted to see the sunset at Bryce and this was our only day to do so since we had to be back to Vegas by the end of the next day. We stayed the night in Panguitch, Utah.
Day 6: A hike through Bryce Canyon in the morning and then we stopped by Mossy Cave (which is really a waterfall) before our drive back to Vegas for our flight home.
