Squirrel Spur Motorcycle Route
I walk you through one of my favorite motorcycle routes. I discuss insights to the route, including tips for lodging, food, and gas. Unlike “Our North Carolina Story” episodes which focus on a location, this video focuses on the route.
I travel from Summerfield, North Carolina up through Madison, North Carolina to Stuart, Virginia, then to Meadows of Dan, Virginia. I return from Meadows of Dan by heading down Squirrel Spur Road to Mayberry Trading Post, then down to NC 66 around Hanging Rock State Park. I head back through Walnut Cove before ending back in Summerfield.

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski
[CHECK OUT CHANNEL: AUDIOBOOK FOR PULP & SOUTH OF NO NORTH]
Written By: Charles Bukowski
Narrated By: Christian Baskous
Publisher: HarperCollins
PublishersDate: August 2013
Summary:
In what is widely hailed as the best of his many novels, Charles Bukowski details the long, lonely years of his own hardscrabble youth in the raw voice of alter ego Henry Chinaski. From a harrowingly cheerless childhood in Germany through acne-riddled high school years and his adolescent discoveries of alcohol, women, and the Los Angeles Public Library's collection of D. H. Lawrence, Ham on Rye offers a crude, brutal, and savagely funny portrait of an outcast's coming-of-age during the desperate days of the Great Depression.
Charles Bukowski is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in Andernach, Germany, and raised in Los Angeles, where he lived for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944, when he was twenty-four, and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.

FUTURE MY LOVE is a unique love story challenging our collective and personal utopias in search of freedom.
At the brink of losing the idealistic love of her life, filmmaker Maja Borg takes us on a poetic road trip through the financial collapse, exploring a radically different economic and social model proposed by 95-year-old futurist Jacque Fresco. How much freedom are we prepared to give to the ones we love? And how much responsibility are we ready to take for our society?
Carefully weaving a texture of archive footage, black and white Super 8 film, and colour HD, Borg poignantly depicts the universal struggle between our heads and hearts in times of big change.

Watch: House final vote on articles of impeachment (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The full House of Representatives will debate and vote on the articles of impeachment. If at least one of the articles passes, Trump will be the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. If the House decides to impeach, the Senate will hold a trial to consider if Trump should be removed from office. On this historic day, The Post’s Libby Casey will be joined by Washington Post reporters Elise Viebeck, Amber Phillips, and Rhonda Colvin to take you through the process.
Trump is the fourth president in U.S. history to face impeachment, which could be approved this week on the House floor. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son. 0:47 INTRODUCTION & OVERVIEW
7:19 ENERGY
17:18 GROWTH
22:19 FOOD
26:38 THE HAPPY ENDING
TNT is a quick journey through oil formation, peak oil, energy, economic growth, and resource depletion. The most important sequence is 17:18, which deals with GROWTH.
FOR STAT PEDANTS: The movie was finished in 2011, released in 2012. Many stats are out of date (OF COURSE), e.g. the 'world solar = 2 coal power plants. And the movie was finished before the fracking bubble took off (it was in fairly early stages as I finished the film). Fracking has of course changed many things, but not the fundamental message of the film = that you cannot grow infinitely on a finite planet. For those who can't grasp this simple fact, skip to 17:18, or watch the stand-alone movie 'To Boldly Grow':
When and if the fracking bubble pops, it will be interesting to see what effects will occur. It seems to have more of the characteristics of a real estate bubble than a shiny new energy source. Time will tell of course.
I'd like to point out that this movie has taken on a life of its own among the 2030 near-term human extinction movement - some of whom have reposted the movie on their own channels, creating the impression that I endorse them. I DO NOT.
I have no connection with the 2030 NTE people, and utterly disagree with their worldview. Had I thought the human species to be heading for extinction by 2030 I wouldn't have spent 7 years working on this film, from which I haven't received a penny. The decline of industrial society and our civilisation is more likely to be a long and shuttered fall, punctuated by periods of apparent recovery (John Michael Greer's 'Catabolic Collapse') not a Big Bang.
US conventional oil production peaked in 1970, the fracking boom notwithstanding. 50 years later, we're still here. The domination of the 'fast-crash' narrative in the peak oil / environmental scenes has done immense damage. Yes, changes can happen quickly, but for the most part, events unfold over decades or longer. Tying a movement (peak oil, environmental activism, etc) to THE EVENT is a recipe for millenarian disappointment.
Everything takes longer than you think, even when you factor in the fact that you know that everything takes longer than you think.
I work on occasional, big projects that come out every few years - they won't come out often, but when they do, you may not want to miss them. So subscribe. My animation channel is updated much more frequently with drawing videos, animation, etc.
