DW Griffith's Abraham Lincoln (1930 film)
World of Wonders. Liberty. Yours.
TEN SCORE AND A decade ago today, a father and a mother brought forth on this planet a son they would call Abraham. And the rest is history, a bit of which you can watch in DW Griffith's Abraham Lincoln [the movie above].
The 1930 film is a biopic on the boy who will become the 16th President of the United States. Co-produced with Joseph M Schenck and directed by David Wark Griffith, it stars Walter Huston (Lincoln), Una Merkel (Ann Rutledge), Kay Hammond (Mary Todd Lincoln), Helen Freeman (Nancy Hanks Lincoln), and Ian Keith (John Wilkes Booth).
Donated to the Museum of Modern Arts by screenwriter and producer Paul Killiam, an avid collector of rare silent movies, the film now forms part of the institution's David Wark Griffith collection.
Although criticized for unimpressive dialogue and some historical inaccuracies, the movie is a silver-screen gem worth your couch-potato time. After all, it pays tribute to the martyr-hero US president—one of the greatest POTUSes who ever lived.
Happy 210th Birthday, Mr Lincoln!

Miracle Mike: The Chicken That Lived For 18 Months Without A Head
Did you know only a very small portion of a chicken’s brain is in the front part of its head? On rare occasions, after beheading neurons are still able to shoot a command for the legs to move — so it can happen that, before finally succumbing to death, the animal will run for let’s say 15 minutes at most.
But once in 1945, when a five-month-old rooster, today remembered as Miracle Mike the Headless Chicken, was laid on the chopping block, ready to become someone’s dinner, the chicken, surprisingly, survived. In fact, Miracle Mike went on to live for about a year and a half!
