Walk round Popeye Village Movie and Film Location in Malta along with special guest appearance from Popeye himself!
Popeye Village is a film set village created for the musical movie Popeye back in the 1980 which was Robin Williams first big movie role. When the movie filming was done the decision was made to leave the whole village in place and the whole film set was left behind for the people of Malta to enjoy forever!
The Popeye Village has been kept almost exactly as it appears in the movie and the people of Malta have really looked after it meaning it can be enjoyed by everyone on holiday on this beautiful island.
I stayed in St Paul's Bay in a place called San Pawl Hotel in Bugibba which is not fair from the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Bar on San Xmun. The trip to Popeye Village didn't take long at all (we got the bus) and once there we loved it!.
It's really easy to get a bus to Mellieha bay and all the buses on Malta travel quickly although be prepared that it's going to be hot on the buses to Popeye Village and often crowded (you might have to squeeze on and stand up!)
It doesn't cost much to spend the day at Popeye Village. Just pay at the entrance and the rest of your day is free. And what's fantastic about Popeye Village in Mellieha that makes it very different from other film and movie locations around the world, is that this is a living breathing film set you can walk around, touch, interact with.
There aren't any parts of Popeye Village that are out of bounds to the public so you're free to roam around, go inside the house of Popeye and Olive Oyl and Bluto as well as have a swim in the sea, take a boat ride around Malta and eat and drink in the pub right in the middle of Popeye Village.
Popeye Village is just one film set on the island of Malta, which has seen many movies filmed here. Also known as Sweethaven Village and Danish Village, this purpose built film set is now a full time visitor attraction along with actors, and with Popeye and Olive Oyl wandering round saying hello to all the visitors and tourists.
Highly recommended. If you're travelling to (or thinking about going to) Malta make sure you visit Popeye Village. It really is a fantastic day out!

When the movie filming was done the decision was made to leave the whole village in place and the whole film set was left behind for the people of Malta to enjoy forever!
The Popeye Village has been kept almost exactly as it appears in the movie and the people of Malta have really looked after it meaning it can be enjoyed by everyone on holiday on this beautiful island.
POPEYE VILLAGE HOLIDAY TIP for 2018 - If you visit Popeye Village make sure you go on the boat trip first as sometimes it closes early and you'll miss out otherwise
I stayed in St Paul's Bay in a place called San Pawl Hotel in Bugibba which is not fair from the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Bar on San Xmun. The trip to Popeye Village didn't take long at all (we got the bus) and once there we loved it!.
It's really easy to get a bus to Mellieha bay and all the buses on Malta travel quickly although be prepared that it's going to be hot on the buses to Popeye Village and often crowded (you might have to squeeze on and stand up!)
In this video we look around Popeye Village Bay from the bar and restaurant there (think it is called Tipsy and Sons Winery) where we have a beer and a huge hotdog and just relaxed to the sound of the waves lapping into the bay. Amazing!
It doesn't cost much to spend the day at Popeye Village. Just pay at the entrance and the rest of your day is free. And what's fantastic about Popeye Village in Mellieha that makes it very different from other film and movie locations around the world, is that this is a living breathing film set you can walk around, touch, interact with.
There aren't any parts of Popeye Village that are out of bounds to the public so you're free to roam around, go inside the house of Popeye and Olive Oyl and Bluto as well as have a swim in the sea, take a boat ride around Malta and eat and drink in the pub right in the middle of Popeye Village.
Tourism in Malta is really taking off and there are plenty of places to see a film location, a film set, or walks around Malta and Popeye Village Malta is definitely the place to see on your holiday here.

Popeye village, Malta (2009).
Popeye Village, also known as Sweethaven Village, is a group of rustic and ramshackle wooden buildings located at Anchor Bay in the north-west corner of the Mediterranean island of Malta, two miles from the village of Mellieħa.
It was built as a film set for the production of the 1980 live-action musical feature film Popeye, produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions starring Robin Williams. Today it is open to the public as an open-air museum and family entertainment complex. The construction of the film set started in June 1979. A construction crew of 165 working over seven months was needed to build the village, which consists of nineteen wooden buildings. Hundreds of logs and several thousand wooden planks were imported from the Netherlands, while wood shingles used in the construction of the roof tops were imported from Canada. Eight tons of nails and two thousand gallons of paint were also used in construction.
In addition, a 200–250 foot breakwater was built around Anchor Bay's mouth to protect the set from high seas during the shooting.
The set was completed in seven months, and filming commenced on January 23, 1980 and wrapped later that year on June 19. The film, based on the comic strips by E. C. Segar, is set around the fictional village of Sweethaven, where the sailor Popeye arrives in an attempt to find his long-lost father.
Although the film had mixed reviews, Popeye Village remains a popular tourist attraction.

This height shows the beauty that planet earth has, in this corner we can see Popeye Village; a small town full of colors and fun. Popeye Village is located at 2 miles away from Mellieha. Just one time is enough to see that here was the original film set of the musical production Popeye, a perfect chance to meet world famous cartoon characters.
Taking a walk around Popeye Village Film Location is an amazing plan. Knowing the beauty and history about Popeye has no price.
Since we were kids we saw this cartoon and it was so funny to watch it. This video is going to show you the meaning of why Malta has been chosen to film Popeye. Popeye Village is a film set village created for the musical movie Popeye back in the 1980 which was interpreted by Robin Williams. When the movie´s film finished the decision of leaving the set for the Maltese people was made; and nowadays it´s still a very touristy place.
The Popeye Village reminds as it appears in the film. For the Maltese people, this corner of the island is one of the most beautiful places to spend on holiday on this wonderful island.
We stayed in Msida, it’s a bit far away from Popeye Village, but that was not an obstacle for us to visit Popeye Village. We knew it since the beginning that Popeye would be a perfect place to go.
It’s not complicated to get a bus to Mellieha Bay and all the buses on Malta travels quickly although be prepared because in summer Malta gets really hot. Also, you can rent a car to get to Popeye Village.
To get inside Popeye Village is not expensive. You just need to pay at the entrance and the rest of the day is free. What is most fantastic about Popeye Village in Mellieha that leaves everyone breathless is its history and its landscape; surrounded by crystal water and rocks.
There are not many parts of Popeye Village that are not allow to the public so feel free to walk around this town, go inside the house of Popeye and Olive Oyl and enjoy the show. Also, you can take a swim in the sea, to rent a cayac and enjoy a lot in the heart of Popeye Village.
Malta is known as the pearl of the Mediterranean and the Hollywood of Europe. Popeye Village is just one film set on the island, which many movies has been filmed here. Also known as Sweethaven Village and Danish Village, the purpose of this film set is giving to the visitors the best experience of knowing the history about Popeye.
If you are a traveler and you decide to come to Malta, fer sure you cannot leave the island without visit Popeye Village, is highly recommended, trust us, it was a wonderful day.

We also visit the Ghadira Nature Reserve and finally we go to the beautiful Anchor Bay and see the Popeye Village. This is the same set up which was used to film Popeye. Today, it's a theme Park.

You'll see some things to do such as local bars, The Parish Church of Mellieha, and some town panoramic in this video. We highly recommend this wonderful place if you're planning on staying in Malta.
