South Gippsland Coastal Town Port Albert - Top Tourist Parks - Discover Downunder
TV presenter of Discover Downunder Brooke Hanson is visiting South Gippsland Coastal Town Port Albert which is located 220km from Melbourne. Port Albert began as a thriving Port as Brooke discovers from Maritime Museum volunteer Bill Black who talks about the early days. In 1841 the port was the only one to service all of South Gippsland. There is plenty of history to see inside the museum, such as the 1841 Clonmel shipwreck memorabilia. The old bakery across the road is now an artist gallery run by Warren Curry who talks about his paintings from the town. Brooke's last stop is at Port Albert Wharf fish and chip takeaway shop.

This is an exhibition of work by prominent contemporary urban indigenous artist Jennifer Herd titled Warrior Woman”. Jennifer Herd will present a talk about her art practice at 4pm. The Opening will be at 2pm. Free Admission.
Jennifer Herd is a founding member of ProppaNOW, an artist-run initiative which also includes Vernon AhKee, Tony Albert, Bianca Beetson, Richard Bell, Andrea Fisher, Gordon Hookey, and Laurie Nilsen .
ProppaNOW provides a constantly innovative approach to Aboriginal Art and urban expression in Australia and seeks to challenge the position that is often ascribed to Aboriginal people and culture within the national Australian context.
Jennifer Herd’s work uses strong symbolic forms and rich surfaces to address the role of women in contemporary indigenous society and to commemorate the heroic survival of indigenous people — first in the face of invasion and then in conditions of social inequality. She often combines buttons and textiles, stitching and sewing associated with ‘women’s work’, in the creation of traditionally male implements of war.
