Llançà is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. Llanca is situated on the coastline of the Costa Brava, between the Cap de Creus and the French frontier and is an important fishing port and tourist centre.

The old town is organized around the parish church and three streets limit it: Dins la Vila, Major and Església. Previously, old fishing houses stood on the port of Llançà; They have been reformed and this part has now become a tourist and residential center.

Tourism in the 1960s led to urban and demographic growth, which boosted and transformed Llanca . The people of the time turned to new professions, more attractive and more profitable: merchants, waiters, builders ... Llanca and the local tourism actors are today very dynamic while remaining respectful of a A controlled development and concerned about the environment of the site (very few high buildings as opposed to the rest of the Costa Brava). A new tourist office was inaugurated in January 2008 .

Vermillion Coast: Port Bou-Llanca, Spain - A Vicious Fight Against the Tramontana Wind

I believe in truth in travel and today was brutal. There is a wind (similar to mistral) called the Tramontana (a cold, dry wind) that accelerates to over 45 mph. Impossible to cross passes (cols) and we were almost blown off the mountains. Seriously!

We had never heard of the Tramontana wind before and if you haven't, now you know it's a force to be reckoned with. Glad to be alive in Llanca.
