Destination WA - Port Hedland Tourism
When we hear the words Port Hedland, we mainly associate it with Iron Ore, and a lot of it! Even though there are industry tours that circumnavigate the entire port, there’s so much more to it then just mining.

Video: Volunteering, 2017 Port Hedland Seafarers Centre Christmas Gift Packing
To add to last year's video, here's a snapshot of yesterday's volunteering which Mr Komene Art and I took part in. The Port Hedland Seafarers Centre Christmas Present Packing is a wonderful initiative that not only gets the community involved, it also brings a lot of Christmas cheer to the iron ore ship seafarers who work over the festive period and are away from their families - the crews of 90 ships will benefit this year! The video is a mix of timelapse and photos of the 60 locals who filled 2,000 Christmas present bags in one hour and 50 minutes - can you spot your Hedland friends?

PORT HEDLAND: AN OVERVIEW WESTERN AUSTRALIA
CARAVAN TRIP 2007
Port Hedland is the highest tonnage port in Australia and largest town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, with a population of approximately 14,000 (this includes its satellite suburb South Hedland, 18 km away).
Port Hedland is a natural deep anchorage port that as well as being the main fuel and container receival point for the region was seen as perfect for shipment of the iron ore being mined in the ranges located inland from the town. The ore is moved by railway lines from four major iron ore deposits to the east and south of Port Hedland. Other major resource activities supported include the offshore Natural gas fields , salt, manganese, and livestock. Grazing of cattle and sheep was formerly a major revenue earner for the region but this has slowly declined. Port Hedland was formerly the terminus for the WAGR Marble Bar Railway which serviced the Gold mining area of Marble Bar.
