Easy ride around the Port Hills which separate Christchurch and Lyttelton Harbour.
We went from the centre of Christchurch through to Lyttelton, around the bays, through Governors Bay, to Gebbies Pass then along the Summit Road and back to the Governors Bay Hotel.
It was a beautiful evening. The cold weather was trying its hardest to encroach on the summer evening and where the two met there was the combination of sun, heavy dark clouds and rain.
Unfortunately, because the sun is so harsh here, it was still quite bright under the clouds as the sun strove to shine through so the white balance of the Gopro went all out of whack, replacing the mixed and embattled sky with a plain grey as you can see in the video. Such a shame.
Time to test out the CPL Gopro case again methinks and sort the associated sound issues out...

Old Bowenvale DH - Port Hills, Christchurch NZ
Full video of me riding my Merida 1-20 down Old Bowenvale DH on the east side of Bowenvale valley, in the Port Hills, Chch. We had a group ride a few days before, and by mistake rode up (UP!) this trail. I thought at the time it looked like a nice bit of downhill/singletrack, and it sure was!

I love the port hills! i spend so much time up there but a large section of the road has been closed since 22 February 2011, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake caused severe damage in Christchurch and Lyttelton, killing 185 people

Tried my hand at a non-game cinematic, which is way harder than I thought.
The shaking at most places could not be avoided as I was extremely exhausted, having hiked all the way up. Boy was I ill prepared. I thought it was a relatively smooth hiking path, which it was. For the first 500 meters.
Then it was pain city up the seemingly 90 degree incline. I almost decided giving up but my legs were jelly by the time I was halfway up and I could not climb back down without Wile -E- Coyote-ing down the hillside. But the view on top was well worth it. Shame I decided to come where the grass was all dried up.
If you aren't the hiking type, spend $30 dollars and take the Gondola, just do that. Trust me.
Did I mention I did this hike with jeans? Yeah don't do that either.

Port hills drive | Christchurch, New Zealand
Hi travellers,
It's well worth heading up onto the Port Hills for a lovely view over Christchurch.
We drove up on sunset to catch the last glimpses of the day and it was beautiful. So few people are around and the views are just lovely. From the beach, over the city, and over the other side to Lyttelton.
We drove down Colombo street from the CBD, up to the Sign of the Kiwi and then along the Summit Road to get these views.
