Port Jackson Sharks of Sydney
Port Jacksons, commonly called PJ's by most divers show up on local dive sites between July and November, depending on water temperature. The best spots to observe them is on the right side of Bare Island and out at Cape Solander at Kurnell.

From the tropics to Diving at Bare Island, La Parouse, NSW, Australia... After so long, finally had a chance to see a PORT JACKSON SHARK. Its winter and breeding time for these migratory sharks. Normally found southern parts of Australia , they head north to shallow waters to breed. Saw this 5 ft.(1.6 mar shark). Water was at 17c (62.6 f) and my hands would sometimes shake while holding the camera. La Parouse is a historical site and takes many visitors from all over the world. I was fortunate that my adventure has taken me here to meet one of the most interesting shark species out there. OH! and check out the Blue Groper! the state symbol of the territory. In June 2010 the greater metropolitan area had an approximate population of 4.6 million people. Inhabitants of Sydney are called Sydneysiders, comprising a cosmopolitan and international population.
The site of the first British colony in Australia, Sydney was established in 1788 at Sydney Cove by Captain Arthur Phillip, of the First Fleet, as a penal colony. The city is built on hills surrounding Port Jackson, which is commonly known as Sydney Harbour, where the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are prominent structures. The hinterland of the metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and the coastal regions feature many bays, rivers, inlets and beaches, including the famous Bondi and Manly beaches. Within the city are many parklands, including Hyde Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Sydney is a consistently high-ranking world city for quality of life. It has hosted multiple major international sporting events, including the 1938 British Empire Games, the 2000 Summer Olympics and the final of the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The main airport serving Sydney is Sydney Airport and its main port is Port Botany.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia. The bridge is nicknamed The Coathanger because of its arch-based design.
Under the directions of Dr J.J.C. Bradfield of the NSW Department of Public Works, the bridge was designed and built by British firm Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesbrough and opened in 1932. The bridge's design was influenced by the Hell Gate Bridge in New York. It is also the sixth longest spanning-arch bridge in the world, and it is the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres from top to water level. It was also the world's widest long-span bridge, at 48.8 meters wide, until construction of the new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver.

Sydney is the largest city in Australia, with a metropolitan area population of approximately 4.3. It is the state capital of New South Wales. Sydney is situated on Australia's south-east coast. The city is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour, leading to the city's nickname, the Harbour City. It is noted for the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and its beaches. The metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and contains many bays, rivers and inlets.
This video covers my first day in Australia as I take a walk from my hotel in the center of the city down to the harbour. During my walk I visit Hyde Park, Archibald Fountain, ANZAC War Memorial, Royal Botanic Gardens, Government House, Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay and the Harbour Bridge.

A Secret about Diving in Sydney
In Sydney, scuba divers are very lucky enough with good diving all year around. But a little-known secret about diving in Sydney is that during the months between July and September, we generally get the best diving with the flattest seas and the best visibility. The westerly winds at that time of the year bring nice flat conditions allowing access to many of the sites that cannot be dive at other periods of the year. As well the upwelling caused by the westerlies results in the visibility of fifteen meters or better on a regular basis.
During the period both the giant cuttlefish and Port Jackson sharks come into the area to mate.
So, providing you wear the appropriate thermal protection then you should plan to make diving in Sydney a year round activity.

Australië - Crossing Port Jackson (NSW-Sydney)
A beautiful trip by ferry is from Manly, crossing Port Jackson, to the Circular Quay in Sydney. It gives a spectacular view of the Sydney Skyline with its Opera House and Harbour Bridge. You passed the Port of Sydney, in the 50's of the last century for many emigrands the port to the new homeland.
Interesting to know that te name Manly comes from the proud male posture of the aborigines.
