We're still in the North of Mauritius for a couple of a days after a week of kiting at Le Morne. We head out for sightseeing - visit some beaches, seek out the Botanical Gardens, visit the Sugar Museum and even make it to the Champ de Mars horse racing track in Port Louis!

Visit to La Citadelle, Port Louis
La CItadelle, also known as Fort Adelaide, is situated on the hill next to Champ de Mars in Port Louis. Its construction started in 1834 by William IV and was completed in 1840. The fort was named after the Queen Adelaide.
It was strategically situated to have a good view over Port Louis and a vantage point against the enemy.
Today, visitors can have a panoramic view over the skycrappers, the harbour, the horse racing track and the beautiful Port Louis-Moka mountain range.

설명: The Champ de Mars Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse race track in Port Louis, Mauritius.
The Racecourse was inaugurated on 25 June 1812, by The Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) which was founded earlier in the same year by Edward Alured Draper, who served in different capacities, namely as Chief of Police, Colonial Secretary, Collector of Customs, Civil engineer, Registrar of Slaves, Magistrate and Colonial Treasurer. The Mauritius Turf Club is the oldest horse-racing club in the Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest in the world.
The race track follows a very selective right hand oval path
and is relatively small in size, with a circumference of 1,298 meters (4,258.5 ft) and width between 12 and 14 meters (39 and 46 feet).

Horse racing fervour in Mauritius
Horse racing is a virtual religion in Mauritius and the Champ de Mars racecourse its temple.
The 200-year-old track in the centre of the capital Port Louis has long been a lure for people from across the island's melting pot of cultures.
On an ordinary race day, around 2,000 people spend an afternoon watching, betting and monitoring the racing form.
