HVAC (stands for Heating, Vventilation and Air Cconditioning) equipment needs a control system to regulate the operation of a heating and/or air conditioning system. Usually a sensing device is used to compare the actual state (e.g. temperature) with a target state. Then the control system draws a conclusion what action has to be taken (e.g. start the blower). James Trane invented a new low-pressure heating system he proudly called the Trane Vapor Heating System. His son, Reuben, was just back from college with a degree in mechanical engineering, so father and son began manufacturing operations in 1910 and incorporated as The Trane Company in 1913.

STORYLINE:
Singapore on Wednesday prepared for a visit by US President George W Bush who is on an eight-day tour of Asia that will also include stops in Indonesia and Vietnam, where he will attend a summit of Asia-Pacific rim leaders.
Bush is scheduled to arrive in Singapore on Thursday, when he is expected to meet Singaporean leaders.
Barry Desker, the Director of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, said he expected bilateral ties and counter terrorism to be two of the main subjects discussed during Bush's visit.
The shape of the bilateral relationship will definitely be a key area. Counter-terrorism efforts will be a factor, and indeed that has been an area in which close co-operation has taken place, he said.
According to Desker, Asian countries will be looking to use the president's visit to extend relations with the United States beyond military ties.
What Asians are looking for is a broad base relationship and engagement with the United States, he said.
Referring to last week's mid term elections, in which the Democratic party captured both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Desker said Asian leaders will meet Bush with the expectation that he will govern.
What he now needs to do is govern with the consensus of both the majority and minority parties, said Desker.
Bush flew out of Washington, DC on Tuesday night.
He was expected to hold a highly unusual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday when the US leader's plane makes a refuelling stop at a Moscow airport on the way to Asia.

Port of Quincy Approved for Inclusion in Foreign Trade Zone 203
WASHINGTON, D.C and QUINCY, Wash., June 1, 2011 -- The U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones Board recently issued Order No. 1764, which approves the reorganization and expansion of the Service Area of Foreign Trade Zone 203 under the Alternative Site Framework plan to now include the Port of Quincy (portofquincy.org) and the greater Quincy, Washington area.
As a result of this order, companies or businesses wanting to locate in the Port of Quincy can now get approved to use the FTZ in 30 days or less.
Foreign Trade Zones were created in the United States to provide special customs procedures to U.S. plants engaged in international trade-related activities. Duty-free treatment is accorded items that are processed in FTZs and then re-exported, and duty payment is deferred on items until they are brought out of the FTZ for sale in the U.S. market. This helps to offset customs advantages available to overseas producers who compete with domestic industry.
Quincy, Washington has become a leading small community in North America for attracting global companies such as Microsoft, ConAgra Foods, Yahoo, National Frozen Foods, Intuit, Quincy Foods (Norpac), Dell, Columbia Colstor International, Sabey, Stemilt, Oneonta, etc.
One of the key reasons that many major companies are attracted to Quincy is because of the exceptional infrastructure, including: plentiful, low-cost and green hydroelectric power; unsurpassed fiber optics availability and capacity; abundant supply of water; an ideal location on the Seattle-Chicago main line of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway; and close proximity to Interstate 90 and the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
On a related note, the Port of Quincy also has a state-of-the-art intermodal terminal and rail cargo handling facility on the BNSF mainline. The Intermodal Terminal includes over 10,000 feet of track and a container maintenance and cleaning facility with nearly 1 million square feet of cold storage warehousing in close proximity to provide shippers with distribution, cross-dock and storage capacity in and out of the Washington state.
Additionally, the Port of Quincy Intermodal Terminal is home to the Pacific Northwest-Chicagoland Express Cold Train which recently celebrated its successful one-year anniversary. The Cold Train's success of shipping both inbound and outbound cargo has effectively turned the Port of Quincy Intermodal Terminal into a key distribution hub for the central Washington area.
Furthermore, a 2010 national site selection study, which compared the cost of operating a manufacturing facility among 45 small market cities in the U.S., named Quincy, Washington The Best in the West.
Stated Port of Quincy Chair Curt Morris, We are excited about the international trade and economic development benefits that are now available to businesses locating within the Port of Quincy as a result of being included in the Service Area of Foreign Trade Zone 203. The FTZ will be able to immediately serve sites or businesses located in the Quincy Port District through an expedited process.
For more information, please contact the Port of Quincy at publicaffairs@portofquincy.org or 509-214-7696.

Stunning Modern Residence in Canterwood $1,150,000
The Kaltinick House is a sophisticated modern residence designed by the internationally recognized firm of Anderson Anderson Architecture, best known for their unique and site specific residential and commercial buildings in the United States and Asia. The architects designed this particular home to showcase the owners' extensive art collection and to take full advantage of its private wooded setting on a bluff above a golf course. The home's exterior is clad in stained cedar and galvanized steel, and floor to ceiling commercial grade stainless steel-wrapped windows and glass doors create a dramatic interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces. The open living and dining areas feature stone floors, a gas fireplace and filtered golf course views, setting a tone of elegant sophistication that is repeated throughout the house. The gourmet kitchen features a Viking range/oven, side by side stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, stainless steel and granite counters, custom mahogany cabinets and a breakfast area. The kitchen overlooks a family room with walnut flooring, custom mahogany built-ins, a Sub-Zero bar refrigerator, a gas fireplace and steps down to a private office. A walk-in pantry and half bath are located near the kitchen. A library with a built-in desk and bookshelves is located off the entry. The main floor master suite features golf course views, electric shades, a gas fireplace, a walk-in closet, two adjoining bathrooms, laundry and direct access to the indoor 60' waveless lap pool and spa pavilion. An exacting replication of Matisse’s well known mural “The Swimming Pool” adorns one long wall of the pavilion. The second story guest wing of the house overlooks the family room and offers two additional bedrooms and a full bath. The unfinished basement includes a wine cellar.
GROUNDS
The Kaltinick House is nicely sited on a lightly wooded ¾ acre lot overlooking the fairway for the sixth hole of the Canterwood golf course. Beautifully landscaped grounds feature a combination of hillside plantings, a manicured lawn and raised bed planters all connected by stone pathways. A curvilinear view deck on the back side of the house is accessible from the living room and the kitchen, making it ideal for entertaining. The deck features several seating areas, a barbecue station with a glass canopy and built-in DCS gas grill and views of the rear yard and golf course beyond. A gentle waterfall set into the hillside empties into a fish pond with a bronze fountain. The property also features an invisible fence and a motor court with guest parking and direct access to an attached three-car garage with new glass and stainless steel doors.
COMMUNITY
Canterwood is Gig Harbor's most desirable gated community, in large part because it has been so thoughtfully developed. Homes are beautifully sited on large lots with mature trees surrounding them to ensure privacy, and common areas are impeccably maintained. The community offers a secure setting and easy access to amenities. The Canterwood Golf and Country Club is located within the Canterwood gates, offering an 18 hole golf course, four tennis courts, a heated swimming pool, a fitness center and a restaurant. The club is managed by ClubCorp and offers a number of different membership options. The Canterwood Riding Club features equestrian boarding facilities, indoor and outdoor arenas, a round pen and trail access with priority given to residents. Gig Harbor's historic downtown is in close proximity, with an active marina and an eclectic mix of locally owned galleries, shops and restaurants. Uptown Gig Harbor and Borgen Blvd offer more modern amenities, including a multiplex cinema and large scale retail outlets. Gig Harbor’s Peninsula School District is well regarded, and summer concerts in the park, a weekly farmer's market, the Maritime Gig Festival and the Food and Wine Festival reflect a strong sense of community. Public amenities like the Cushman Trail and Kopachuck State Park provide ample opportunities to explore the great outdoors.
Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Fish Creek & Ephraim (#612)
[Latest Airdate: January 4, 2018]
[Original Airdate: March 9, 2017]
Fish Creek and Ephraim are just minutes away from each other in Door County. While these communities are really different, they are both part of the same wonderful Door County experience. We're on the bay (west) side --- also known as the busy side. Indeed, John had a full agenda, as do most tourists who come to this part of Door County, but this turned out to be one of the most relaxing episodes because that's how Fish Creek and Ephraim are. You can't help but walk a little slower, talk a little less and smile a little more. Well, John didn't follow suit on the talk a little less part because he's a television host and talking to people is what he does. And what fun conversations he had at Lautenbach's Orchard Country Winery and Market, Edgewood Orchard Galleries, Wilson's, and with everyone he met. And since John spent a good deal of time here acting, he couldn't wait to catch up with both famous theater groups. The busy side of the Door in September. We highly recommend it!

Susan Jane Gilman: The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street | Talks at Google
The IndieNext Pick is about an immigrant girl's transformation into an indomitable businesswoman in early 20th century New York. As a child in 1913, Malka Treynovsky flees Russia for New York with her family--only to be crippled and abandoned in the streets. Taken in by a tough-loving Italian ices peddler, Malka survives. When she falls in love with Albert, they set off together across America in an ice cream truck to seek their fortune; slowly, she transforms herself into Lillian Dunkle, The Ice Cream Queen of America--doyenne of an empire of ice cream franchises and a celebrated television personality. Spanning 70 years, Lillian's rise--fraught with setbacks, triumphs, and tragedies--is inextricably linked to the course of American history itself, from Prohibition to the disco days of Studio 54. And when her past starts catching up with her, her world implodes spectacularly.
Susan Jane Gilman is the author of Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress and Kiss My Tiara. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan, and has written commentary for The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Ms. magazine, among others. Her fiction and essays have received several literary awards. Though she lives in Geneva, Switzerland, she remains, eternally, a child of New York.

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski
[CHECK OUT CHANNEL: AUDIOBOOK FOR PULP & SOUTH OF NO NORTH]
Written By: Charles Bukowski
Narrated By: Christian Baskous
Publisher: HarperCollins
PublishersDate: August 2013
Summary:
In what is widely hailed as the best of his many novels, Charles Bukowski details the long, lonely years of his own hardscrabble youth in the raw voice of alter ego Henry Chinaski. From a harrowingly cheerless childhood in Germany through acne-riddled high school years and his adolescent discoveries of alcohol, women, and the Los Angeles Public Library's collection of D. H. Lawrence, Ham on Rye offers a crude, brutal, and savagely funny portrait of an outcast's coming-of-age during the desperate days of the Great Depression.
Charles Bukowski is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in Andernach, Germany, and raised in Los Angeles, where he lived for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944, when he was twenty-four, and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.
