Port Wakefield - A Lost Grand Prix Circuit?!
We drive out to a paddock full of saltbush and find the venue of the 1955 Australian Grand Prix. Only used between 1953 and 1961, the track was abandoned when Mallala got up and running. Now it sits slowly rotting in a field with most having forgotten it ever existed.
I have been as factually correct as I am able with the information available to me. If you have further information please comment below.

Easter road toll 2013
Assistant Commissioner Linda Williams speaks to the media about the 2013 South Australian road toll over the Easter holiday period, during which five people died on SA roads. See below media release for more info.
Easter roads claim five lives
Five people have died on South Australian roads over Easter and one person remains in a critical condition.
Assistant Commissioner Linda Williams says police are saddened by the loss of lives.
Five people killed over a four day holiday is tragic news.
Police have been conducting vigorous road safety operations and sending road safety messages to the community over the Easter holiday, but we can't be present in every car.
This sad toll underscores the need for every driver to take their responsibility at the wheel very seriously. It really is a matter of life or death.
Police are concerned that this year's road toll is already 34, which while shocking in itself doesn't tell the full story of the number of other lives affected by these deaths.
We've now lost 34 lives on our roads and the year is barely three months old, said Assistant Commissioner Linda Williams.
Of enormous concern to police are incidents such as a woman detected yesterday in Warradale in the very early evening, driving with an alleged blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.227.
This woman had two young children in her car and was nearly five times over the legal limit.
Fortunately, we believe that sort of driving behaviour to be exceptional, because most drivers do the right thing on our roads.
However, distraction is also a major factor in serious and fatal crashes. Even the most careful driver needs to be alert to the fact that distraction and fatigue can come upon them very quickly.
When police ask drivers to take breaks, share the driving and drive refreshed, it's because we've picked up the pieces on too many roads where people have thought they could drive for just a little bit longer.
The toll:
Good Friday:
3am: Two 22-year-old international students died when their car collided with a semi -trailer on the Dukes Highway at Ki Ki.
Good Friday:
11.50pm: A 17-year-old youth passenger died when the car he was in hit a tree on Rocks Road Balaklava
Easter Saturday.
7.15pm: A 46-year-old woman from Gawler critically injured in a two car crash at the intersection of Port and Woodville Road.
Easter Sunday:
11.45pm: A 27-year-old man died when his car rolled at Mt Gambier.
Easter Monday
5.45pm: A 41-year-old man from Virginia was struck by a car when he was walking along Port Wakefield Road.

DESCRIPTIVE NARRATIVE
A sealed bitumen road enters St. Kilda from Port Wakefield Road, in the East. It is a small village sized town, with several houses, a hotel, a historical tram museum, and a boat ramp giving protected access to Gulf St. Vincent. There is car parking by the extensive play ground, from where you can see Norfolk Island Pine Trees, Housing, Sport Grounds, the 'Beach', Tidal Flats, and a sprawling Mangrove Forest. Across the channel, Port Adelaide, Outer Harbour and its Industrial Areas can be seen, eg. a Container Ship Port, and Cranes. A long Revetment (rock groyne / sea wall), and Channel Markers guide boaters away from Sand Bars. There is some revegetation and Signage around the play ground. At the Play Ground / Recreation Area, is Play Ground Equipment, a 'Pirate Ship', a 'Castle', trees and Lawns. The video was taken mid week, during business hours, thus the few children; it is much more popular on weekends.
The Mangrove Trail is to the South East, and has Interpretive Information Signage about the Salt Water Barker Inlet, its Grey Mangroves, Salt bush, and Samphire. Samphire is edible, and can be used as a salad vegetable. The Interpretive Centre charges a fee to see the Tidal Estuaries from its boardwalks when open. It sometimes sells delicious mangrove honey. Walk through mangroves seaward (until it becomes too sticky), and follow a small creek. See Birds, Swamp land, Pneumatopores, Mangrove Seeds, Crab Holes, Sea Shells, Flowers, Insects, Coastal Daisy, mangrove Creeks, and Lichen on plants. The mangroves have a sickly sweet, heavy, humid smell, and the mud smells like rotten eggs and sulfur when you break the surface; cuts sting. The Adelaide Tram Museum, near St Kilda, is open 12 - 5 on Sundays, and public holidays, and some Wednesdays during school holidays. It charges a small fee to enter, and sometimes ride the still working old electric trolleys, and trams. A short tram line and overhead power leaves the museum, and travels to St Kilda.
