Rapallo, Italy
If you’ve ever imagined a place where you can experience a rich history, a passion for refined & natural beauty, truly memorable & delicious cuisine, and a lifestyle usually reserved only for the elite, then welcome to Rapallo.
Rapallo is a spectacular costal town in the region of Liguria, in northwest Italy. It is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, in the Bay of Tigullio between Portofino and Chiavari, and a short distance from the Cinque Terre. It has about 30,000 people who get to call this home.
The historical center of the town is host to pedestrian cobbled streets, called “caruggi” which cross the town center. Beautifully painted buildings are everywhere, some have stunning frescos. Every day of the year, fresh local produce, meats and cheeses are available in the farmers’ piazza. The moderate climate allows for an abundance of delicious food waiting for you.
You will find delicious specialty stores everywhere you look, featuring Ligurian olive oil, the finest wine, meats and cheeses.
The Porta delle Saline is the only remaining gate of the five from the ancient walls that were built to protect the city, and separate the historic center from the seaside promenade.
Rapallo has a wide variety of fantastic restaurants. Each with their own delicious house specialties, and serving local fresh ingredients. You’ll never be at a loss for finding a place to share special moments with friends.
The valley of Fontanabuona is a short distance from Rapallo where local slate is mined. The slate has a wide variety of uses. Many pieces are carved by hand and displayed throughout Rapallo and other local villages.
The symbol of Rapallo is without a doubt is the Castello sul Mare (Castle on the Sea). It was erected in 1549 after the town had been plundered by a Turkish pirate named Dragut. The small castle helped to defend Rapallo against future pirate attacks. Today it is used for special events and exhibitions.
The city of Rapallo was the host to two famous treaties signed after World War I. The first one was in 1920 between Italy and the Kingdom of the Serbs, Coats & Slovenia which reshaped the boarders between them. The second was in 1922 between German and Russian Foreign Ministers, ratifying the surrender of all territorial & financial claims after World War I, and it normalized the diplomatic relationship between the two governments.
According to legend, Rapallo’s history goes back to the times of Hannibal, the great enemy of Rome. A Medieval bridge is named after him. It is believed that he crossed this bridge during the second Punic War.
Rapallo is a peaceful place. Testimony of that is a beautiful church built in the 7th century. The Basilica dei Santi Gervasio e Protasio and the campanile housing 12 bells.
Throughout the year, small music groups perform in the early 20th century band shell. The dome ceiling is painted with beautiful frescos.
It is easy to get to Rapallo from either the autostrada, train or by boat.., but after you experience the Rapallo lifestyle for yourself.., you may never want to leave.

Places to see in ( Rapallo - Italy )
Rapallo is one of a string of old-fashioned seaside resorts along the eastern half of the Italian Riviera (called the Riviera di Levante). It is not far from Portofino and with its range of hotels, Rapallo makes a good base for exploring the coast. Bigger and busier than its neighbours, and a little less expensive. Rapallo is convenient for travellers as it is also nearer the autostrada and has more 'stopping' train services. Although it isn't the nearest resort, it is still a handy base for the Portofino promontory, with frequent buses to Camogli, Recco, Santa Margherita and Portofino itself. A car can get to any of these places in well under half an hour.
Rapallo's own attractions shouldn't be overlooked either. A short promenade faces across the water to the large harbour and is flanked by a small medieval castle, used now mainly for exhibitions. Behind the front is a group of interesting old streets laid out on a sort of grid pattern. Rapallo was a Roman settlement. West of the town centre, the other side of the river, stands a small bridge which is certainly worth a look, although it now serves no purpose and crosses only a modern road. This is the Ponte di Annibale - plainly very ancient, even if the connection with Hannibal is less certain. At the back of the town, in the other direction, is the bottom station of a cable-car which goes up to the Sanctuary of Montallegro.
Apart from a visit to the church itself, the top gives access to big views over the coast and some walks. There's also a (rather scenic) golf course at Rapallo, a rare thing to find along this hilly coastline. The railway station is only a short walk from the seafront through the old town centre. Car parking is indicated close to the station and at the west end of the promenade.
Like the other resorts in this bit of Liguria, Rapallo makes a good base for hopping from one seaside town to the next. The railway and summer boat services make it easy to tour the resorts in this area, all of which are pleasant place to visit: Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligure and exclusive Portofino. Keen walkers can explore various footpaths in the regional park of the Portofino promontory, and the seashore monastery San Fruttuoso can be visited either by boat or on foot. More distant, but easily reachable by train are the busy city of Genoa and - to the south - the famous Cinque Terre.
WB Yeats, Max Beerbohm and Ezra Pound all garnered inspiration in Rapallo and it's not difficult to see why. With its bright-blue changing cabins, palm-fringed beach and diminutive 16th-century castle perched above the sea, the town has a poetic and nostalgic air. It's at its busiest on Thursdays, when market stalls fill central Piazza Cile.
Alot to see in Rapallo such as :
The Castello sul Mare (Castle-on-the-Sea), erected in 1551 to counter the frequent pirate attacks. It includes a small chapel dedicated to St. Cajetan, built in 1688.
The Castello di Punta Pagana is a seat of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. It was finished on 28 July 1631.
The historical Tower of the Fieschi and the Torre Civica (1473).
The Porta delle Saline, the only remaining gate from the ancient walls.
Basilica of Sts. Gervasius and Protasius, consecrated in 1118 and restored in the early 17th century. In 1679 a new apse was added, deleting the former Romanesque character of the edifice. It has a leaning bell tower.
The church of St. Francis of Assisi (begun in 1519).
The Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montallegro (Our Lady of Montallegro, 1558–1640).
The ruined Monastery of Valle Christi (13th century), abandoned in 1568 after pirate ravages.

3-bed 2-bath Apartment for Sale in Reggio Calabria, Calabria, Italy on italianlife.today
More info on Apartment for Sale in Reggio Calabria, Calabria, Italy with 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom: ►
Reggio Calabria, situated in the big toe of the proverbial boot that is Italy, is almost completely unknown to the world of tourists at large. At its best, it is the sunshine province of Italy, providing a wonderful climate year round, and is surrounded on its east coast by the Mediterranean sea and the mountains and the Ionian sea on its west coast. It is a dynamic city made up of populations of both young and old, both of whom enjoy the lifestyle that Reggio provides year round. At its worst, Reggio is a city fraught with political and economic problems: from garbage littering the sides of streets for months on end to streets throughout the city and surrounding areas in need of repair to traffic and parking issues that are ignored by drivers and pedestrians alike. The house is somewhat on the outskirts of Reggio proper. It is accessed by a dirt road in poor repair that leads to the front entrance of the small complex. This is a small condominium building shared by 4 families. The unit for sale is on the ground floor and will be renovated to suit the client's wishes. The front entranceway is a communal walkway with separate pathways leading to the individual entrances. The back of the house enjoys a covered verandah being on the ground level, and is large enough for an eating and sitting area. From the verandah, you have a somewhat large grassed area with trees, divided by a few walkways. There is a communal pool and two out buildings that can be used for various purposes by the owners. A groundskeeper is employed by the owners. There are of course ground rules that apply to all the owners such as no dogs allowed on the grounds, etc. Beyond a low stone boundary wall, lies the sea. Unfortunately there is no beachfront to enjoy. Over all, the property for sale has potential once it is completely renovated.
