Plitvice Lakes day tour from Split
Day tour to Plitvice Lakes from Split in organization of Portal travel agency
Trogir & Krka, Two of the Best Day Trips from Split
Croatia has been a hot spot for the last couple of years thanks to a little show called.... Game of Thrones. Even if you aren't huge fans like we are, there's a reason these incredibly well preserved cities were chosen as their filming locations.
Split
Split is Croatia's second largest city, and the major jumping off point if you're planning a trip to the islands. But, spending a few days on the mainland will be worth your while, not only for the city of Split, but also two really awesome day trips.
Split is a great home base because of it's transportation options, from freeways, to trains, to ferries. But, make sure to spend a day wandering around the streets of old town, check out Diocletian's Palace, and all of the Game of Thrones spots. After you've made your way through the city, you will emerge at the Riva, a palm tree lined promenade running along the sea and by the harbor.
Trogir
Split airport is actually about 25km from the city of Split, but it's only 3k from this tiny gorgeous incredibly well preserved town called Trogir.
You can do it as a day trip from Split, but I would spend either your first or last night there since it's so close to the airport.
Heading straight to Trogir from the Airport, take the local bus # 37, and leave the rental car for later. It will only cost about $2.
Arriving in Trogir, you will find yourself just across the bridge from Old Town.
Trogir's medieval city center is a Unesco World Heritage site, with every path leading to a new interesting and incredibly well preserved site. Plus, the promenade along the water has some great restaurants with wonderful views.
The island is actually pretty small and can be seen in a couple of hours, which leads most people to make it a day trip from Split. We decided to spend the night, have the streets to ourselves first thing in the morning, and avoid the huge summer crowds.
The places you won't want to miss are the Radovan Portal, St. Lawerence Cathedral, the town loggia, and Kamerlengo fortress. You will recognize many of these sites because the city has been used as a filming location many times, most prominently in Game of Thrones.
Krka
Krka National Park, with it's famous waterfalls is just an hour drive from Split.
The easiest way to get to Skradinski buk, the waterfall you see in all of those instagram pictures, is from Skradin, where you can grab a ferry. It only leaves once an hour though, so make sure to check the schedule before you go.
After a short walk from the ferry dock, you'll find the incredibly gorgeous falls!
Per usual in Europe, the water is COLD! But, in the summer heat, it's not miserable. The entrance to the water is a bit steeper and rockier than I had expected, so be cautious if going with kids.
Make sure you check the return ferry times too because they also only leave once an hour, and the last ferry is probably earlier than you would expect.

A Road Trip From Athens to Dubrovnik on a Motorcycle
One week alone, for a road trip by my bike, in a good mood and appetite for new experiences. In seven days, I have to cross 6 countries, and travel 2.600km. A travel that has been decided a few days earlier, and it hasn't been organised properly. My starting point was Athens, I had to reach Sarajevo in Bosnia and get back to the greek Capital.
In this first part you will watch my route from Athens to Ohrid lake in FYROM, my pass from Albania up to Petrovac village in Montenegro, my visit to Kotor and finally, the picturesque Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Trogir, Split-Dalmatia, Croatia - city tour
Trogir is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. The historic city of Trogir is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo.
Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites for its Venetian architecture.
Trogir has 2300 years of continuous urban tradition. Its culture was created under the influence of the ancient Greeks, and then the Romans, and Venetians. Trogir has a high concentration of palaces, churches, and towers, as well as a fortress on a small island, and in 1997 was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The orthogonal street plan of this island settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period, says the UNESCO report.
Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic, but in all of Central Europe. Trogir's medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Trogir's grandest building is the church of St. Lawrence, whose main west portal is a masterpiece by Radovan, and the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in Croatia.
