Places to see in ( St Ives - UK ) Carbis Bay Beach
One of Cornwall's five award-winning Blue Flag 2013 beaches, owned by the Carbis Bay Hotel, with safe bathing beach surrounded by subtropical splendour.
Facing northeast and just one mile east of St Ives, the Carbis Bay Beach rarely has any surf so makes for an ideal spot for families with toddlers as the sea here is perfect for swimming.
Served by the picturesque St Ives branch line and around a mile long, the golden sands bathe in the bright light of west Cornwall and a short walk on the east side of the Carbis Bay Beach at low tide brings you to Porth Kidney sands where you’ll find a RSPB bird sanctuary, an important habitat for sea birds. Part of an array of beaches that make up St Ives Bay, listed as one of the world’s best by the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Organisation, the beach at Carbis Bay is surrounded by sub-tropical plants and lapped by turquoise waters which just might just have you thinking you were somewhere much further south.

Carbis Bay Beach
Carbis Bay Beach, a subtropical splendour owned by the Carbis Bay Hotel is an awarding winning beach and a beautiful place to visit. Its long stretch of golden sand and clear blue waters which are safe for swimming and bathing helped the beach score in the top five in Cornwall's Blue Flag best beaches.
The beach is just a mile away from the extremely popular town of St Ives so is a great place to stop by on a visit. Carbis Bay Beach rarely sees any swell or surf and has very calm waters, perfect for paddle-boarding, swimming and to take young children down to the waters edge. The beach is accessible from the coast path as well as the branch line between St Ives and St Earth which gives you stunning scenery for the whole journey and is highly recommended.
More information on the beach:
- Dog friendly from October 1st - Easter
- Multiple car parks (however Carbis Bay gets very busy and the car parks fill up quickly)
- RNLI lifeguard cover
- Toilet, cafe, beach shop and restaurant at the hotel

Hawkes Point Cottage, Carbis Bay, Cornwall - Holiday Accommodation
Hawkes Point Cottage is set in an idyllic location with a view that is akin to a John Miller painting. This detached cottage has large and beautiful gardens overlooking Porthkidney beach. Protected from the prevailing south westerly winds, the accommodation is somewhere for couples to relax and watch the world sail by but also has the capacity to be enjoyed by large families.
Dolphins and other Sea-life regularly visit the bay to play or for those braver types, Hawkes Point is a local surfing spot, less well known than the nearby Porthmeor Beach in St Ives or Gwithian sands at Hayle. Alongside the garden runs the St Ives Branchline (voted the most scenic in the country) where the train regularly passes at a slow pace and a wave buys you a toot from the driver! If you are looking for a total break from the hectic day to day grind, where better than this superb getaway.
To book a stay in Hawkes Point Cottage please contact Aspects Holidays on 01736 754242 or hello@aspects-holidays.co.uk
