Enjoy the view normally reserved for the driver as we travel over the first mountain railway in Europe to employ standard gauge track. The railway was constructed between 1848 and 1854 by some 20,000 workers featuring 14 tunnels (among them the 1,431 m summit tunnel), 16 viaducts (several two-storey), along with numerous attractive stone bridges. Our train has to tackle 2.5% gradients and negotiate curves as tight as 190m radius, a real challenge for any train. The railway is so remarkable that it has been added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Please sit back and join me for a ride over this highly scenic Alpine railway.

Corris Narrow Gauge Railway (Wales, UK)
I had seen the Corris Railway on a number of occasions, but I’d never seen trains running, so when I heard they were running on the day I was travelling from North Wales to England’s South Coast, I just had to call in. After looking round the informative and interesting museum, I wandered out to the station area to watch the little steam engine arrive with its short rake of attractive coaches. The railway's website describes the Corris Railway as the first Narrow Gauge railway in Mid-Wales. Constructed originally in 1859 as a 2’ 3 gauge tram-road, it employed horses to haul slate waggons to and from the quarries. Steam locomotives arrived in 1878 with passengers being carried from 1883 to 1930. The Railway closed in 1948 and dismantled soon afterwards.
The friendly train staff enjoyed showing visitors around the train, including the locomotive cab, answering questions and generally making the visit a pleasant experience. Our train set off through the pretty Welsh countryside to the current limit of passenger operations at Maespoeth, where passengers can listen to one of the staff giving a short history of the line before being escorted around the works and carriage sheds.
For the return trip we join the crew in the cab of number 7 for the trip back to Corris.

Rhyl Miniature Railway (24th August 2019)
On the morning of Saturday 24th August 2019, while waiting for the Rhyl Air Show to start (the video of which, can be found here: a quick visit to the 15 gauge lakeside miniature railway was made.
The popular 1911-built line had two steam locos in operation on this day; Railway Queen (Michael) was in charge of the morning's service, while Prince Edward of Wales was seen being prepped up for the afternoon.
This video shows the railway in action during my morning visit, and includes a quick glance at Billy in the railway museum, as well as a a selection of other motive power and stock. The odd water skier can also be seen, out on the lake!

GCR 1960's Gala 31st Mar-1st Apr 2012
The GCR's Annual 1960's Gala was changed, rather disappointingly, to an all steam event and in my eyes, defeated the point of a 1960s Gala altogether. To add to that the 'typical 1960s locomotive' hired in for the event was United Steel Company Austerity No.22. Other than this, a very nice gala which featured the newly restored ex.LMS Ivatt 2MT No.46521, and ex.GWR 'Hall' No.4953 Pitchford Hall looking awesome now, with a BR Early Crest logo on the tender. The Red 8F appeared with a new coat of paint around the cabsides and tender in BR Maroon complete with BR late crest as No.48624, the boiler and smokebox however were still in that atrocious EWS red, one step closer to black anyway!
The gala, once again, had plenty of action on the double track including TPO demonstrations, turntable demonstrations and pick up and drop off goods.

While we were in the city, we went up into the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) and we went up to Hobbyco, and I did some filming of the model railway that was there.

The West Hill Cliff Railway, or West Hill Lift, is a funicular railway located in the English seaside town of Hastings. It runs largely in tunnel, and provides access to Hastings Castle and St Clement's Caves from George Street, on the town's sea front. The West Hill overlooks the sea to the south, the Old Town to the east, and the current central business district of Hastings to the west.

Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Gwynedd, Wales. Caernarfon lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. The city of Bangor is 8.6 miles (13.8 km) to the north-east, while Snowdonia fringes Caernarfon to the east and south-east. Carnarvon and Caernarvon are Anglicised spellings that were superseded in 1926 and 1974, respectively. The villages of Bontnewydd and Caeathro are close by.
In the 13th century, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, ruler of Gwynedd, refused to pay homage to Edward I of England, prompting the English conquest of Gwynedd. This was followed by the construction of Caernarfon Castle, one of the largest and most imposing fortifications built by the English in Wales. In 1284, the English-style county of Caernarfonshire was established by the Statute of Rhuddlan; the same year, Caernarfon was made a borough, a county and market town, and the seat of English government in North Wales.
The ascent of the House of Tudor to the throne of England eased hostilities between the English and resulted in Caernarfon Castle falling into a state of disrepair. The city has flourished, leading to its status as a major tourist centre and seat of Gwynedd Council, with a thriving harbour and marina. Caernarfon has expanded beyond its medieval walls and experienced heavy suburbanisation. Its population includes the largest percentage of Welsh-speaking citizens anywhere in Wales. The status of Royal Borough was granted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963 and amended to Royal Town in 1974. The castle and town walls are part of a World Heritage Site described as the Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd.
Caernarfon is situated on the southern bank of the Menai Strait facing the Isle of Anglesey. It is situated 8.6 miles (13.8 km) south-west of Bangor, 19.4 miles (31.2 km) north of Porthmadog and approximately 8.0 miles (12.9 km) west of Llanberis and Snowdonia National Park. Caernarfon was at one time an important port, exporting slate from the Dyffryn Nantlle quarries. A temporary Caernarfon railway station in St. Helen's Road is the northern terminus of the narrow gauge Rheilffordd Eryri / Welsh Highland Railway. Work began on a permanent station for the town in February 2017. The new station is expected to be open to passengers in Spring 2018. Caernarfon Airport is 4.5 miles (7.2 km) to the south west, and offers pleasure flights and an aviation museum.

Train Simulator 2017: 7027 Thornbury Castle + 5900 Hinderton Hall attack Wellington Bank
While playing the game Train Simulator and having seen footage shared on YouTube by Oldham Video Productions ( which has footage from onboard the footplate giving a driver or fireman's eye view from the footplate aswell as from the position we see things from, I decided to create my own version in Train Simulator.
The engine in question that is used for this footplate footage video is on Great Western Castle class 4-6-0 no 5051 Earl Bathurst/Drysllwyn Castle (on this occasion though she was disguised as 7027 Thornbury Castle), and on this occasion she was double heading with fellow Didcot Railway Centre resident GWR 4900 Hall class 4-6-0 no 5900 Hinderton Hall.
The coaches they were hauling were not the standard West Coast Rly's maroon or Royal Duchy/Royal Scot MK1's from Riviera trains but a selection of vintage GWR stock making up the GWS Vintage Train which had that day run from Reading to Plymouth.
The activity in question is a custom made activity which im working on and planning to release on the Steam Workshop very soon.
Ex LT&S steam loco 80104 hauls a goods train out of Corfe Station
Here, former LT&S Fenchurch Street-Shoeburyness steam loco 80104 is now turned right way round and we see it waiting in Corfe Station, still with rake of goods trucks behind it. We then see the loco pull away, from the platform right alongside, until it heads into the distance.

South Wales Holiday Cottage - Swansea Valley | Ty Mawr Tlws
Superbly located South Wales holiday cottage in tranquil countryside, within the small, picturesque hamlet of Cilybebyll in the Swansea Valley. Only 15 mins from the M4, with a shop 3/4 of a mile away and country pubs serving food and more shops including a supermarket all within 3 miles. Pontardawe (3 miles) has a variety of food outlets and takeaways, banks, and an Arts Centre.
Ty Mawr Tlws holiday cottage, Swansea Valley is just 9 miles from the Liberty Stadium in Swansea itself (home to the Ospreys and Swansea City Football club) making a superb base for travelling supporters and for all other stadium events. The Wales Rally GB also regularly passes through this area. There are many all weather attractions in the area including the Swimming Centre in Swansea with its 50 meter pool, slides and water rides, Dynamic Rock indoor climbing centre, Mega Bowl, Margam Country Park and the Waterfront Museum.
There is plenty to do and see in this part of the world. This South Wales holiday cottage is only a short drive from the beautiful beaches of the Gower in Swansea and the breathtaking scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park including Waterfall Country. The wonderful and varied landscape of the Gower Peninsula (Welsh: Penrhyn Gwyr) was the first place in Britain to be designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB) by the Countryside Agency on behalf of the UK government, and is one of only five within Wales. 2006 saw the Gower Peninsula celebrating its 50th year as an AONB, an accolade that has truly stood the test of time.
