The Portland Observatory, built in 1807 at Portland, Maine, is the last surviving maritime signal tower in the United States. Using both a telescope and lantern, two-way communication between ship and shore was possible several hours before an incoming vessel reached the docks.

New England Trip 2014: Portland, ME
It's alright, we're tourists.
Two cousins travel the country, this time through the New England area. We started in South Carolina, drove north to Maine, headed west to Ohio, then made it back home. We covered fifteen states in nine days for this road trip.
This stop: Portland
We stopped in Portland to have some delicious lobster and see the observatory. Unfortunately, it was closed.

Im Mai/Juni ging es zum ersten Mal in den Osten der USA inkl. einem Abstecher nach Kanada. 3 Wochen führte uns unser Road Trip von Attraktion zu Attraktion und was wir genau erlebt haben, erfahrt Ihr in meinem Road Movie XXL. Es ist eher ein Spielfilm und keine Dokumentation. Erlebt hautnah mit, wieviel Spaß wir hatten, als wir „On Tour“ waren. Dieser Film ist voll und ganz in Ultra HD und entfaltet seine Wirkung so richtig auf einem großen 4k Fernseher!!

Wale watching off Portland Harbor Maine
Spent an afternoon with a group of friends playing tourist and enjoyed a boat ride out past Maine's Portland Harbor to see Whales, seals and other ocean wildlife. We saw some whales on the trip but I was not quick enough to capture them on video. A great reason do make another trip!
