Portland Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Portland – Welcome to the city where you can experience the laid-back atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest amid beautiful natural surroundings. Check out the best of Portland, Oregon!
When ready, browse vacation packages to Portland:
A #Portland #vacation means plenty of parks, fountains, and buildings old and new to explore. Be warned, this city is known for its sudden showers, so make sure you bring an umbrella to shield yourself until the sun makes a triumphant return.
If you like a good brew, you’re going to love Portland’s alter-ego, Beervana – so named thanks to all the breweries located here. Wine snobs, don’t despair; you’ll find plenty to drink (responsibly) in the Willamette Valley while you continue your Portland #sightseeing.
Don’t forget to stop by the Oregon Zoo, home to eagles, bobcats, and a ton of other feathered, furry, and scaled critters. Travelers with children will also love the Portland Children’s Museum, where the little ones can learn from and play with interactive exhibits.
Whether you’re here for the beautiful views or to sample the vintages in the valley, Portland has something for everyone.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Portland - City Video Guide
Portland, Oregon, is located in the Northwestern United States, where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet.
Portland is sometime called 'Beervana', because of its large number of microbreweries. The Willemette Valley, meanwhile, is an excellent wine-growing region.
At the heart of Portland is the amphitheater on Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Portland Art Museum here is the oldest museum in the region. The Tom McCall Waterside Park is a good spot for people-watching. Several bridges give access to the east bank, where the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is located.
Portland's climate is ideal for growing roses, showcased in the International Rose Test Garden. The nearby Japanese Garden is one of the most authentic outside of Asia. Washington Park offers lush gardens and trails. Oregon Zoo is a family favorite. Opposite this is the Portland Children's Museum.
Benson Bridge provides the best vantage point for the stunning Multnomah Falls. Viewing points around the National Volcanic Monument show off the active Mount St Helens.

OX...DINING IN THE CITY
While visiting our son in Portland Oregon, we were delighted with his selection of a restaurant on our first night in town. Just a quick drive across the water from our room. We showed up before the doors opened but the hostess came out and took our name, directing us to the oyster bar behind the restaurant. After having a adult beverage our table was ready. It's a very cool little arrangement of intimate seating and I felt the blood in my bread basket pulse as when I first saw their custom made grill. It was a pit of well orchestrated fire, flame and beauty. The waiter was prepared and willing to serve, informing us of the food items and the style of ordering. (a share/family style works well) I gasp at the sight of the menu. We were in for a treat for sure. We tried to hatch a plan. I tend to over order in a place like this. Who am I fooling, there's no place like this! So we ordered a bite, then a few more starter bites. The waiter brought out a soup, we weren't expecting a soup! It was like a shot of soup that went straight to the imaginary glands of what was going to come. The first starter plates came out and I could scream but I bit my tongue softly...I wanted to taste after all. Self control stopped me from grabbing our waiter by the collar and requesting another dish to be added to our initial order. I did order more but didn't grab his collar. Food was coming out faster than we could consume it and we were eating like caged animals! We over ordered...but we didn't care. Today we feast, tomorrow we regret! We left no room for dessert, it's a family curse I think. I gave my standard hic-up that signifies I full. It was like rushing the stage of your favorite band, drinking alcohol for the first time or being let loose on a batch of warm cookies and cold milk...no self control. OX in Portland on North East Martin Luther King Blvd. Get there early...the secret is out. And we walked out straight, upright, like humans...with no regrets.

Portland's Tilikum Crossing: A Bridge for People, Not For Cars
In 2015, Portland, Oregon opened North Americas's longest car-free bridge The Tilikum Crossing, a bridge that allows travel for pedestrians, bikes and scooters as well as light rail, streetcars and buses!
It's a superb transportation marvel, not only elegant but one of the most multi-modal places in the United States connecting logical routes not only now but in the future as Portland's Southwest waterfront continues to go thru its development. It also connects to the equally exquisite aerial tram to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) which in turn boasts the largest bicycle valet service in North America!
Being around the area on a few summer days it's easy to see all this beauty and planned car-free options in action.
Here's Streetfilms' love letter to Tilkum which makes the case for other cities considering transportation options near bodies of water that there are many great reasons to do it the same way. There is virtually no noise. The footprint of the bridge is small since interconnecting off-ramps and large roads taking up valuable real estate is not needed. The comfort for those using active transit (bikes and walking) was carefully considered. And the fact that it can accommodate three different modes of transit: streetcars, light rail and three bus routes is a huge selling point.
And the final wonderful feature: the LED lights on the span change colors based upon the temperature and water level of the Willamette River! Believe me on a beautiful summer night you want to stay on it forever.
