Potoroo Palace in Merimbula by Grasshopper Travel
About ten minutes from Merimbula in the beautiful Bega Valley, savour the rare opportunity to see a koala, wander among the kangaroos, touch a snake, stroll through the cooling mist of the walk-through aviary, go for a ride on the mini train or have lunch and really good coffee at the Blue Wren Cafe. You can get up close to our kangaroos, emus peacocks and ducks who roam the park freely and hand feed them with an Animal Feed Bag. Potoroo Palace is a not-for-profit organisation passionate about caring for the Earth. Many of the animals at the sanctuary are native to the Merimbula area. We have seven Long-nosed Potoroos, Macropods such as Eastern Grey Kangaroos and a Swamp Wallaby, and two Bare-nosed Wombats. Short-beaked Echidnas and Long-nosed Bandicoots are all found in the Bega Valley, sometimes even entering our own backyards. Emus and even Dingoes can be found in the surrounding area. Koalas and Long-nosed Potoroos are very rare here now, but were once abundant. People come from all over the world to Australia to see our native animals.
Potoroo Palace and other fun things to do in Merimbula
FunSearch went on the road looking for fun on the Sapphire Coast – the NSW far south coast – and we found plenty.
Just a few minutes outside Merimbula, Potoroo Palace is a fantastic experience for everyone who goes there. You'll have lots of fun while being very well educated about Australia's unique wildlife. You'll also learn the actions everyone at Potoroo Palace are taking to look after and rehabilitate a whole range of animals including Snakes and Lizards, Owls, Dingoes, Kangaroos and of course - Potoroo's too!
After Potoroo Palace we visited Merimbula's Magic Mountain and it goes without saying that the fun was over the top for all of us (especially from the rollercoaster).
We then hit the sandy 4WD tracks in the isuzu MU-X to a remote beach to enjoy the afternoon.
We love everything about the Sapphire Coast :)
Stay safe and make every day a fun day!

Fun Search things to do Eden, Pambula and Merimbula, Australia
In the Victorian September school holidays FunSearch went on a roadtrip adventure from Melbourne to the stunning Sapphire Coast (far south coast of NSW). It’s an absolutely beautiful part of Australia, teeming with Australian wildlife including echidnas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, goannas, seals, turtles, dolphins - and lots of friendly whales! the landscape in which the animals live, is its own natural attraction
Of course we used Funsearch.com.au photo and video search to select a place to stay and lots of fun things to do - accommodation, restaurants, activities, tours, natural attractions, offroad tracks for the Isuzu MU-X to play on and much more.
This little film captures a small sample of the fun to be had on the Sapphire Coast, no matter what your age. We will certainly be back again.
