Yarra River at Pound Bend, Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia
This is a favourite swimming spot, just a few Km out of Melbourne.... there's a tunnel, built late 19th century, from which water pours out .... this tunnel was made to divert water from the river on the other side of a horse-shoe bend, so that mining the gold was made easier .... sadly, it was a failure, & the mining company folded soon after.
POUND BEND WARRANDYTE | Mat Leave Vlog 3
Welcome to my Melbourne Vlog where I document my weekly adventures on maternity leave with my squad of two boys.
This series aims to inspire mums on maternity leave and stay-at-home mums to venture outside with kids as a means to stay sane.
This week, I venture out into the Australian Bush solo with my 6-month old, Raffy, and my favourite child - Miguel (our DJI Mavic Pro). Watch as we encounter vicious kookaburras and snakes as we journey deep into the Australian wilderness.

I'll be dropping a video of a place I visit every Wednesday - SUBSCRIBE and stay tuned for weekly inspiration!

Pound Bend Tunnel || Warrandyte - Victoria
My Children asked me what i did for Work Experience at school?

The Pound Bend Tunnel, or the Evelyn Tunnel, is a diversion tunnel on the Yarra River at Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia, approximately 24 km north-east of Melbourne. The tunnel is 145 metres long, six metres wide and four metres deep. The Evelyn Tunnel Mining Company, a public company, was formed on 8 February 1870 . The object was to create a tunnel through the narrow section where the Yarra River turns back on itself and divert the river through it. This left five kilometres of river bed which could be mined for alluvial gold. The returns approximated the costs involved, the company never paid a dividend and was wound up in September 1872

Pound Bend Reserve (and the friendly ducks) at Warrandyte State Park, Victoria
Sometimes we forget that we have the most beautiful places to visit so close to home. We had a friend visit from Perth and he has been to Melbourne many times over the years but had never been to Warrandyte.
We often go for walks along the river at Warrandyte and love it.
We had gone out for lunch to Olivignia the day before followed by a couple of drinks at the Warrandyte Hotel and a meander along the Yarra River in Warrandyte.
Thinking of something to do the next day we remembered that Pound Bend is a pretty spectacular place go and a great place to take interstate or overseas visitors. It was an overcast day and a bit damp however it turned out to be wonderful place to go and walk around and take in the beautiful surroundings.
Pound Bend Reserve is located in the Warrandyte State Park, Victoria. Australia

Are there really koalas at Pound Bend in Warrandyte?
Every time we go to Pound Bend we stop and look high up into the trees to see if we can spot a koala. We are yet to see any in this area ( or a kangaroo, or a platypus) There are lots of beautiful birds to be seen and heard.
It is an easy flat walk from the carpark to the point where you can see where the tunnel meets the Yarra River. There are some rocks in front of the tunnel opening where if you look closely enough you can see through the tunnel to the other side.
You can also take a walk up some steps that gets you above the tunnel then down to the other side.
I am wondering if there are koalas living high up in the trees or if they have moved away from the area..... We will keep on looking in hope of one day seeing a Koala!
