This is a video tour of the lovely Powell Gardens Botanical Gardens in Missouri. These gardens are just east of Lone Jack, Missouri on U.S. Hy. 50 and about 30 miles east of Kansas City. These are very nice botanical gardens. This video was taken in early summer of 2008.
Festival of Butterflies opens at Powell Gardens
Friday, July 31 marked the beginning of the 19th annual Festival of Butterflies at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, Mo. The festival includes one indoor conservatory, two outdoor butterfly breezeways, and hundreds of butterflies flying freely as attendees walk through. Kansas City's botanical garden-more than 900 acres of gardens, contemporary architecture, a meditation chapel, cafe, conservatory and gift shop. Open year-round. This was the 14th year of the Butterfly Festival with hundreds of free-flying butterflies from the tropical United States and Costa Rica, two outdoor butterfly breezeways aflutter with native species, children's activities, an art exhibit and more.
This year, the festival spotlighted the often overlooked beauty of the moth. Native magnificent native moths include the silver moon-eyed Cecropia, the scary-eyed Polyphemus and the streamer-tailed green Luna.
