A wonderful garden with plenty to explore with a easy route ( no steps ) or one with to take you to each level. We only had time to explore the main garden not all the grounds but will be back to do so. Has a very interesting house but sadly NO PHOTOGRAPHY Inside at all. At the bottom of the garden is a tea room to refresh you for the journey back up.
Powis Castle, Powis Garden Overview and Tipu Sultan Artefacts, Welsh Pool, UK
Powis Castle is located nearby Welshpool, United Kingdom. This medieval castle was built in 12th century and has a magnificent 300 years old garden adjacent to it. The spectacular Powis Garden is designed as a terrace garden which steps down the hill. The terraced gardens are defended by the Yews which are regularly trimmed into abstract topiary. What It Takes to Maintain the Biggest Hedges in the U.K.
It takes Dan Bull, a gardener at Powis Castle and Garden, eight weeks to trim all the hedges on the historic property in Welshpool, Wales. That might sound like “shear” madness, but before the advent of cutting tools powered by electricity and gas, a team of 10 gardeners spent four months hacking excess growth away by hand with scythes. One of the property’s 400 year-old hedges stands 55 feet tall, and Bull dangles from a cherry picker to groom it! This is extreme gardening at its finest.

Magnificent Powis Castle & Gardens
Powis Castle is a magnificent building in a wonderful location, perched on a sandstone rock, which is the material from which it's constructed. Powis Castle and grounds offer almost unlimited photo opportunities. The Castle looks good from just about any angle, and has interesting terraces with clipped yew trees, herbaceous borders, statuary and an orangery. The castle grounds contain a Woodland Wilderness, full of rhododendrons and criss-crossed with paths that take you across a ridge immediately opposite the castle and offering spectacular views, then continuing on to the formal gardens. Only about 1 mile outside Welshpool, Powis Castle is a 'must visit' National Trust property.
