Typical ladder here also
A design I did at ITL in 2012 using Solidworks and FEA. SOLAS and Lloyds compliant to ISO standard for accommodation ladders.
EHL built the 2 ladders here in New Plymouth NZ (port and starboard versions). 6 months design + 6 months build.
Each has 14 tons of steel (including supporting structure).
Beams with steps weigh 5000kg.
Working Capacity 6000kg UDL or 500kg Cantilever. (S.F.=2) Integrated water tight doors.
Independent plug & play hydraulic power units with Parker control valves and PLC's.
Extension 14.5m. Elevation 10m. 39 Steps. Stored size 2.5x2.5x5.0m.
Deflection at end due to self mass is only about 75mm.
Modification to ship structure was via Marine Industrial & Design in Auckland.
The door also has capability to fold back against the hull but is not done in the video.
The fast rescue boat is now in the location of the original accommodation ladder.
Uses at least 15 large hydraulic cylinders with internal acoustic displacement gauges and several smart Parker PLC's so operation is a one-push process (semi-automatic)
Rails could have been automatic also but this was not required.
The only thing to change here is the step depth. 300mm was required for conformance with the ISO ladder standard, but for ergonomic sense steps should have been at least 400mm so personnel do not have to walk down on their heels when the steps are at a steep angle.
There is an option to have a flat ramp or steps, and float mode when end of the ladder rests upon the jetty.
