The Upper Youghiogheny River is an amazing stretch of class V continuous whitewater. With steep tight and technical boulder choked rapids, slot moves galore, big holes and multiple waterfall drops there is more than enough action to keep the most seasoned whitewater veteran on their toes. The river distance rafted is 11 miles and in that topography the gradient measures 118' per mile, in the Miracle Mile the gradient is 211' per mile. Our staff is a group of seasoned individuals with decades of river experience on this section. We have whitewater athletes that have skill and ability earned from many river trips. Middle Youghiogheny Rafting (Class I - II)
The ultimate family float trip!

Our family fun tours are a great way to get outside and spend some quality time with your family and friends. Fun Directors accompany all our family tours to provide added river entertainment. Come and join our first-class staff and create lasting memoires you are your children can share for a lifetime. Laurel Highlands River Tours has the personalized tour option to fit your individual or group needs. We are able to accomodate a variety of group sizes. These tours are great rafting experiences for scout, youth, and school groups. Our rafts will seat from three to six rafters comfortably. All tour options include transportation from the check-in are, all the equipment necessary for the day, and a riverside deli-style lunch.

The calm and scenic Middle Yough's Class I and II rapids are a great introduction to whitewater rafting. By paddling the gentle waters of this nine mile section of river, you and your family will enjoy the unending beauty and wildlife of the Laurel Highlands. Keep your eyes open!

Option I Guide Escorted (no guide in your raft)
Each rafting tour is escorted with experienced guides with a guide to guest ration determined by the State Park. They are not in each raft. This option lends itself to the more accomplished rafter who is familiar with the river and rafting techniques. During high-water conditions we will change our format to 8 man self-bailing rafts with a guide in each raft due to the faster pace of the current and the need to avoid certain channels.

Option II Fully Guided (guide in your raft)
Enjoy the splendor of the Youghiogheny River with a knowledgeable guide in your raft. Perfect for first timers, families and youth groups. You will be part of a larger tour and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow explorers, however for just a small increase in the cost of the tour your guide can personalize the experience in a special way. Leave the hassles behind as your guide coaches you, every paddle stroke of the way. As a bonus your party will be assured to have the best self-bailing raft for the water level.

Option III Guided Duckie (no guide in your raft)
This tour option is just right for groups with a lot of energy but are not quite ready for the bigger waves found on the Lower Yough. Duckies are one and two person boats that handle like a kayak but are much more stable. The guides' will paddle alongside to show you the way and ensure everyone has a fun day.

Here are a few things that you should know about this river tour. 1.The tour is offered from April to October.
2.The skill level of this tour is 1 on a scale of 1 to 4.
3.River length is 11 miles.
4.You will experience class I and II rapids.
5.4 is the reccommended age of the rafter on this tour.
6.Estimated rafting time is 4 to hours. These do vary so please don't hold us to it.
7.You will receive a deli-style lunch at the river's edge.
