In my country malls are dying. Few are willing to pay a premium for the same goods they can get on Amazon and elsewhere online. To deal with parking, crowds and waiting in line are a pain.
However; shopping in the mall in Thailand can be a very pleasant experience with local goods at inexpensive prices, a spectrum of pricing for food that starts at prices that rival street level. There is a huge sense of community with local events, decorations, photo opportunities and cushy movie theaters full of comfortable visiting areas and VIP options.
If malls in the US and Europe were more like the malls in Asia they would not be dying except for last minute shoppers 1 month a year.
