Places to see in ( Bebington - UK )
Bebington is a small town and electoral ward within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, in Merseyside, England. Historically part of Cheshire, it lies 5 miles south of Liverpool, close to the River Mersey on the eastern side of the Wirral Peninsula. Nearby towns include Birkenhead and Wallasey to the north-northwest, and Heswall to the west-southwest. Bebington railway station opened in 1838 and is situated on the Wirral Line of the Merseyrail network.
The electoral ward, which includes the original village centres of Higher Bebington and Lower Bebington, had a total resident population of 13,720 at the 2001 Census. increased to 15,768 at the 2011 Census. Some definitions of Bebington include adjoining areas such as Port Sunlight (an early planned factory town), New Ferry, Spital and Storeton. The former municipal borough of Bebington, a local authority between 1937 and 1974, also included within its boundaries Bromborough, Eastham, Raby, Thornton Hough and Brimstage, which now fall within the electoral wards of Bromborough, Eastham and Clatterbridge.
According to a 2015 study commissioned by Royal Mail from the Centre for Economic and Business Research, Bebington's postcode area, CH63, is the most desirable in England in which to live and work. The study found that the area had the ideal balance of housing close to places of work, good schools and high employment.
The name Bebington is derived from the Anglo-Saxon meaning the Village of Bebba, probably a Saxon chief or landowner. In 1801, Bebington was a small country hamlet with a population of only 273, situated on the main road connecting Chester and Birkenhead, and then via ferry to Liverpool. Up to 30 horse-drawn coaches would pass by each day. Stone quarried at Bebington was used for the construction of Birkenhead Town Hall, some of the villas around Birkenhead and Rock Parks and most famously of all the Empire State Building in New York City.
Bebington is on the eastern side of the Wirral Peninsula, approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) south-south-east of the Irish Sea at New Brighton, about 7.5 km (4.7 mi) east-north-east of the Dee Estuary at Gayton and less than 2 km (1.2 mi) west-north-west of the River Mersey at New Ferry. The area is situated at an elevation of between 20–60 m (66–197 ft) above sea level.

Bryan Robson and Viv Anderson are doorstepped by a journo as they leave Prenton Park 10 minutes before the end of Tranmere Rovers match against Wolves in May 1995. Robson and Anderson were running the rule over Boros weekend opponents while a few miles down the M6, as the journo informs Robbo, Stoke City were doing Boro a massive favour by drawing with Bolton Wanderers to ensure Boro were promoted that evening without kicking a ball. Party time at Prenton the weekend then!

Places to see in ( Birkenhead - UK )
Birkenhead is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral in Merseyside, England. Historically in Cheshire, Birkenhead is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the west bank of the River Mersey, opposite the city of Liverpool.
The recorded history of Birkenhead began with the establishment of Birkenhead Priory and the Mersey Ferry in the 12th century. During the 19th century Birkenhead expanded greatly, becoming a town as a consequence of the Industrial Revolution, with Birkenhead Park and Hamilton Square being examples of the era. Around the same time, Birkenhead gained the first street tramway in Britain. Later, the Mersey Railway connected Birkenhead and Liverpool, with the world's first tunnel beneath a tidal estuary.
Birkenhead is perhaps best known for the shipbuilding of Cammell Laird, and for the town's seaport. In the second half of the 20th century, the town suffered a significant period of decline, with containerisation causing a reduction in port activity. During the first half of the 21st century, the Wirral Waters development is planned to regenerate much of the dockland.
Birkenhead had the first street tramway in Britain. Opened on 29 August 1860 the first line ran from Woodside (adjoining the terminal of the Mersey Ferry) to Birkenhead Park. The system was later electrified and operated from 1901 as Birkenhead Corporation Tramways. Two replica trams, imported from Hong Kong, have been brought into service as part of a heritage tramway between Woodside and Wirral Transport Museum, and Birkenhead Corporation Tramways Car No.20 is preserved on this line. Present-day services are run by operators including Arriva, Stagecoach and Avon Buses, and coordinated by Merseytravel. Birkenhead bus station opened in 1996. National Express provides long-distance coach services to other UK cities, with direct routes including London, Glasgow, Bangor and Newcastle.
The town has one operational railway depot, Birkenhead North TMD; one disused, Birkenhead Central TMD; and two demolished, Birkenhead Mollington Street TMD and a further depot adjacent to Birkenhead Park station. The remains of the Birkenhead Dock Branch are still extant in a cutting through the centre of the town, which was used primarily for freight services. Much of the peripheral railway infrastructure, around the docks, has been removed since the 1980s. Birkenhead's dock system is part of the Port of Liverpool, operated by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company under the ownership of The Peel Group.

Hotel Review: Village Urban Resort, Warrington, Cheshire, England - August 2015
I stayed at the Village Urban Resort in Warrington for two nights in August 2015, two of us stayed in a double room with breakfast for a price of £64.50 per night, I booked with booking.com.
The hotel is a short distance from the town centre. It is walkable from Warrington Central railway station, but we took a taxi for £5.00 as we had luggage.
The hotel layout is almost an identikit of my local Village Hotel in Headingley, although the Warrington one seemed a bit smaller and more compact. The colour scheme is dark - too dark. Whoever came up with this did not appreciate how dingy it makes the corridors and rooms appear. This is something which has been rolled out throughout the Village branded hotels, and it seems like a mistake to me.
We were in room 101, to be completely honest I was disappointed with it. It wasn't very big, it was very dark, the window was small and the view was of the air conditioning units (I asked for a room on a high floor with a view, but didn't get it). To make matters worse the noise from the ground floor function room was easily audible in the bedroom. Unfortunately my experience of staying in this small, dark, stuffy room has put me off of stopping in any other Village hotels in future.
The breakfast buffet food was tasty, but the restaurant kept running out of items, first no bacon, then no sausages, then no margarine...it became a bit of a joke.
I ddn't eat in the restaurant at night, I ate in the bar. The food was OK, standard bar food burger. The drinks prices were quite reasonable, but the bar service was slow, at one time there was only one member of staff serving with a large crowd of people waiting.
On another occasion there was a drunk at the bar, speaking aggressively towards the staff and swearing loudly. To be fair to the staff they handled him well and calmed him down.
We came to the hotel primarily for the swimming pool and spa facilities, sadly all day Saturday of our stay it was absolutely rammed with kids. Not what we came for. The pool was huge, but it just seemed to be like a public baths, rather than a 'resort' hotel pool.
Sadly I have to say that I was disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Anyone who watches my films or reads my reviews regularly will know that I'm usually quite positive and objective, but the small, dark, noisy room, patchy breakfast buffet and crowded swimming pool have put me off staying at this hotel again. £64.50 per night was good value for a spa hotel with breakfast, but there's more to the experience than price alone. Sorry Village Warrington, but I doubt that I'll be back.
This film features views of the hotel front, reception, Starbucks, bar, restaurant, breakfast buffet, swimming pool and bedroom.

Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre, Merseyside, England - May 2019
Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre, Merseyside, England - May 2019.
I've just added a new film to my Hotel Reviews: England playlist here of a review of the Holiday Inn hotel in Liverpool city centre, here: .
I stayed at this Holiday Inn in May 2019 for two nights, booked with booking.com on a bed and breakfast basis, which cost £140, a very good price for a hotel of this quality in Liverpool city centre. The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street, which is Liverpool's main railway station.
The reception is located next to a Sainsbury's in a St. John's Shopping Centre. Check-in was quick and easy with friendly, chatty reception staff. My room (308) was very decent, with air-conditioning, a very good king-sized bed, desk area, flat screen TV, comfy chair, double wardrobe, mirror and tea and coffee making facilities. Unfortunately the bed had no plug sockets next to it, which was a shame.
The bathroom felt a little bit 1980s, but it was clean and well maintained, with a shower bath instead of a shower cubicle.
Breakfast was excellent (English and continental buffet) in a large and airy restaurant with great views towards Lime Street station.
All in all this was a very good experience, and a great hotel, I would certainly consider staying here again in future.
This film features exterior views of the hotel, reception, lobby, lift / elevator, a detailed room review of 308, restaurant and breakfast buffet.

University student one of first people to test positive for deadly coronavirus in UK
One of the first two people to test positive for coronavirus in the UK is a student at the University of York. The university said while the news will cause concern and anxiety among our students, staff, and the wider community, the risk of infection is low. A spokesman said the student is not believed to have come into contact with anyone on campus while they had symptoms. The student and another member of their family are being treated at a specialist unit in Newcastle. They had been staying at Staycity apartment-hotel in York and were taken to hospital on Wednesday evening. Health chiefs confirmed on Friday that they had tested positive for the virus - which has killed 259 people in China. The university has advised people concerned about their health in relation to the disease to call 111, and have also set up a call centre over the weekend. The spokesman said: Our immediate concerns are for the affected student and family, along with the health and continued wellbeing of our staff, students and visitors. Public Health England is continuing to work to try to trace people who had close contact - defined as being within two metres of the infected person for 15 minutes - with the pair. The hotel firm has said the apartment involved has been thoroughly disinfected and PHE has been providing support. Meanwhile, 83 British nationals have spent their first night of two weeks in quarantine, having arrived at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral in a convoy of six coaches on Friday evening. One of the people on the rescue flight - which also carried 27 non-UK nationals to Brize Norton RAF base in Oxfordshire - described the accommodation at the NHS staff accommodation block in Merseyside as perfectly nice. In a video blog from inside his room Matt Raw told the Guardian: They've actually put a bag here containing various essentials that we might need - underwear and things that people might not have had time to pack. It's a perfectly nice room. We've got all the essentials that we need. The evacuees have been supplied with food, and laundry facilities, and have access to the internet and a team of medical staff who will closely monitor their conditions. Kitchens are available for those who wish to self-cater, and families are being kept together, with games consoles, toys and cots provided. Coaches which transported the evacuees were seen parked in a fenced-off area of the staff car park at the hospital on Saturday morning. It is understood they will be taken away to be decontaminated later. In another development on Saturday the Foreign Office announced it is withdrawing some staff from China. It said essential staff will remain to continue critical work but warned that its ability to provide help to Britons in the country may be limited. UK ministers have said the Government will send another plane to Wuhan to rescue British citizens if needed and the PA news agency understands that the Foreign Office (FCO) is wo
Buses carrying Brits from Wuhan arrive at Wirral facility.
The bus drivers for the 83 British evacuees suspected of carrying the deadly coronavirus spent an entire 172-mile journey with them without wearing face masks.
Although none of the passengers rescued from Wuhan have been confirmed infected, the virus is highly contagious and they are being bundled into quarantine in Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, for 14 days.
The coronavirus, which has infected nearly 10,000 people and killed 213, is known to spread easily through coughs and sneezes and close contact, and people may be contagious even if they feel well.
Government sources say there's no risk to the drivers because they won't come into contact with the passengers.
Everyone on the flight has been checked for symptoms of infection but they have not been tested for the coronavirus.
The UK passengers were taken to the Merseyside hospital to be housed in an NHS staff accommodation block with access to the internet.
Patients disembarked from behind barriers covering the accommodation entrance, but some could be seen inside wearing masks as they walked upstairs to their rooms for the next fortnight.

Coronavirus hotel still open despite first UK victims confirmed as guests
The York hotel where two coronavirus patients stayed has remained open for business, with bosses insisting there is a 'minimal risk' of infection to others. Two people were taken ill at the StayCity apartment hotel in York on Wednesday and were later confirmed to be the first UK cases of the coronavirus. The pair, who are members of the same family, are being treated by Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Staycity Group said the property is still open for business as Public Health England assured them there is a 'minimal risk' of infection to staff and guests. It is understood the two guests travelled to the UK from China recently and are undergoing treatment at the specialist Airborne High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID) centre in Newcastle. A spokesman for Staycity Group told Mirror Online: We have now received confirmation that two guests staying in one of our apartments in York have been tested positive for the coronavirus. Did you stay at York's Staycity hotel recently? Email webnews@mirror.co.uk We have been advised by Public Health England that there is minimal ongoing risk of infection to either guests or staff, and as such our York property remains open for business. The apartment concerned will undergo a thorough environmental clean and disinfection by a specialist contractor. We would like to reassure all our guests that we are following official advice on this matter and that the health and safety of everyone working and staying in our properties remains of paramount importance to us. We would like to wish the two guests concerned a speedy and full recovery. The 220-room hotel features studio, one and two-bedroom rooms. Professor Sharon Peacock, director of the National Infection Service at Public Health England, said PHE is contacting people who had close contact with the pair. She added: The two cases were staying in York when they became unwell. Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after contact with the confirmed cases. This tried-and-tested method will ensure we are able to minimise any risk to them and the wider public. Earlier, Professor Peacock said that while staff are working to trace people who have been in contact with the pair, they do not currently have any idea of how high that number might be. On Wednesday night, the StayCity apartment-hotel in York was put on lockdown when some family members, believed to be Chinese nationals, were taken to hospital after falling ill. It comes after more than 80 Britons on an evacuation flight from the Chinese city at the centre of the outbreak landed back in the UK. The flight, carrying 83 Britons and 27 non-UK nationals, mostly from EU countries, arrived at the Brize Norton RAF base in Oxfordshire at around 1.30pm. The UK passengers are being taken to Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral for a quarantine period of 14 days, where they
Birkenhead Priory (2018)
Birkenhead Priory is in Priory Street, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It is the oldest standing building on Merseyside.
The remains of the priory are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
The Priory was founded about 1150 by Hamon de Masci, 3rd Baron of Dunham Massey for the Benedictine Order.
In 1318 the monks from Birkenhead Priory were granted ferry rights by Edward II. This allowed them to build a house in what is now Water Street to store their corn. The house was also used by travellers for shelter if the weather was too bad for the ferry to cross the River Mersey.
St Mary's Tower was originally part of Birkenhead's first parish church, opened in 1821 in the grounds of the priory.
The ground floor of the Frater House contains a museum detailing the history of the site.

That decision was reversed hours before the plane was due to depart, but some people did not have time to get to the airport. The PA news agency understands that the Foreign Office (FCO) is working with EU countries to add British passengers to any rescue flights they may charter back from Wuhan. The evacuation flight came after the UK's four chief medical officers raised the risk level of the illness from low to moderate and the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared an international public health emergency. Chinese health officials said on Friday morning that the death toll in the country from the virus had risen to 213, with the number of known cases rising from 7,711 to 9,962. British hospital waiting area is evacuated after Coronavirus fear
Wirral residents were left furious at the 83 Britons being evacuated from China amid the coronavirus pandemic being housed in a unit on their peninsula.
