Shelsley Walsh and Prescott Hill Climbs 1951
This atmospheric amateur film from the National Motor Museum Collections shows action from two hill climb events in 1951. The first is at Prescott near Cheltenham. A variety of Bugattis can be seen competing alongside an Allard J2 and a Jaguar XK120. The second hill climb, the Shelsley Walsh event, marks the 50th anniversary of the Midland Automobile Club and features cars that had competed in the earlier years of hill climbing. These include a 1914 TT Sunbeam, a 1921 Tamplin, a 1904 Wilson-Pilcher and the MG “Old No.1”.
This film has been newly restored and digitised in the National Motor Museum’s film & video facilities and is a rare colour record of this form of motor sport.
