Launching of the Malacanang Presidential Museum and Library Virtual Exhibit
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar leads the milestone launching of the Malacañang Presidential Museum and Library Virtual Exhibit at the Kalayaan Hall on July 5, 2017.
Beginning today, people across the globe who have internet access can virtually explore the Malacañang Presidential Museum and Library online with Google Arts and Culture at google.com/culturalinstitute. Online visitors using their mobile devices, laptops, tablets or desktops are now able to experience a walk-through inside the historic museum and view its curated exhibits.
The project came into fruition after several months of collaboration between the Presidential Museum and Library and the Google Cultural Institute that was ably supported by the PCOO.
Director Edgar Ryan Faustino (Head, Presidential Museum and Library) gives the welcome remarks followed by the messages of Kenneth Lingan (Country Manager, Google Philippines) and Pierre Caessa (Program Manager, Google Arts and Culture). Liberation: Battle of Manila
The battle for the liberation of Manila—waged from February 3 to March 3, 1945, between Philippine and American forces, and the Imperial Japanese forces—is widely considered to be one of the greatest tragedies of the Second World War. One hundred thousand men, women, and children perished. Architectural heritage was reduced to rubble—the City of Manila was the second most devastated Allied capital of World War II.

Visiting the Cavite Public Library - Philippines
Visiting the Cavite Public Library - Philippine libraries are nothing like visiting a library in the USA. You will find no novels, no kids books, no books on computer science or hobbies, in fact Philippine history is the main topic of almost all publications. Books are read on site and not checked out. I am a library person and often hung out in the library in the USA. I lived near a University and had access to two GIANT libraries. We had computer access and books on any imaginable topic. Of all things in the USA the library I miss the most.
When I told Myra about the libraries in the USA it was almost unbelievable to her. Take books home ?, she said. Science fiction books, books on cooking and computers and even art books WOW ! Would they even have books on how to make marbled paper? REALLY ?
Some things in the USA we really take for granted. US tax dollars bring us a lot more in the USA than we realize. Libraries is one small example. I can not imagine my daughter not having a USA library to visit.
Manila I have been told does have many different topics in the public library. However books can not be checked out' All reading is done on site. Almost no Small towns do not have any type of library at all. The only exception is a few of the private schools that have an extremely small library for students.

PHILIPPINES: PRESIDENT ELECT ESTRADA TOURS PRESIDENTIAL PALACE
English/Nat
The Philippines' newly-elected President Joseph Estrada has been given a guided tour of the Presidential Palace where he will soon be living.
His guide was current President Fidel Ramos who will hand over to him on June 30th.
The transfer of power has been going smoothly so far despite predictions of resistance from Ramos' camp.
The Malacanang Presidential Palace in Manila's suburb of San Miguel will soon be the Estrada's new home.
Though he never lived in the palace, former President Fidel Ramos was there on Thursday to greet the Philippines' newly-elected President Joseph Estrada, his wife, Loi Ejercito and their two children.
Estrada was given a guided tour of the palace and will be the first President since Ferdinand Marcos to live there.
When Marcos was overthrown in 1986, the palace was turned into a museum to show his family's opulent lifestyle.
Corazon Aquino, who came to power by a peaceful revolution that toppled the 20-year Marcos dictatorship, occupied a house across the street.
Ramos also lived there when he succeeded Aquino.
The palace was built in the early 1800s for the Spanish Governor-General when the country was still under Spanish colonial rule.
After the Philippines gained independence from Spain in 1898, it became the official residence of presidents.
Estrada seemed pleased with his new surroundings.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Questions: How's the tour so far, sir?
Answer: So far so good. I didn't know that President Ramos has completed all the libraries of the lives of all the Presidents.
Question: Are you looking forward to staying here, sir?
Answer: Maybe in the guest house.
SUPER CAPTION: Joseph Estrada, Philippines President-elect
Estrada has said he will live in Malacanang only six months a year, splitting the rest of the time between the two other major regions of the country to reach out to the people.
He formally takes his oath of office as the 13th president of the country on June 30th.
