EXPLORING LITHUANIA: The magnificent PRESIDENTIAL PALACE in VILNIUS
SUBSCRIBE: - The Presidential Palace, located in Vilnius Old Town, is the official office and eventual official residence of the President of Lithuania. The palace dates back to the 14th century and during its history it has undergone various reconstructions, supervised by prominent architects, including Laurynas Gucevičius and Vasily Stasov. In 1997 the palace became the official seat of the President of Lithuania.
Lithuania is a country and the southernmost of Europe’s Baltic states, a former Soviet bloc nation bordering Poland, Latvia and Belarus. Its capital, Vilnius, near Belarus' border, is known for its medieval Old Town. It also has Gothic, Renaissance and baroque architecture, and 18th-century cathedral built on a pagan temple site. Hilltop Gediminas' Tower, a symbol of the city and the nation, offers sweeping views.
Lithuanian Flag Replacement Ceremony in Front of the Presidential Palace Vilnius
Flag Replacement Ceremony in Front of the Presidential Palace
Each Sunday at 12 o'clock, the Flag Replacement Ceremony is performed not only by soldiers in modern full dress uniform, but also by the Guard of Honor clad in medieval armor.
Soldiers in armor of the style of Grand Duke Algirdas demonstrate a special drill formation performed at festive ceremonies.
The Flag Replacement Ceremony in Daukanto Square is opened by the sounds of trumpets and drums. Soldiers in fourteenth-century military dress march through the main gates of the Presidential Palace to the square to demonstrate a medieval drill formation. They are followed by the Guard of Honor in modern full dress uniform who lower the flags, replace them, and raise new flags. After the replacement is completed, two soldiers in medieval uniforms return to the square to keep a one-hour guard.
The traditional Flag Replacement Ceremony performed each Sunday is simpler: Guards of Honor in modern full dress uniform replace the flags - which is followed by a one-hour guard by two soldiers in fourteenth-century military dress.
The military guard replacement ceremony and military drill formation with soldiers clad in historical uniforms are part of state-level ceremonies performed in many countries of the world.
The Flag Replacement Ceremony was renovated for the forthcoming celebrations of Lithuania's Millennium. It aims to develop patriotism and promote interest in Lithuanian history and culture among local residents and guests. It also signifies that the modern armed forces of Lithuania cannot be separated from the country's glorious past.

DOPESHEET
Dalia Grybauskaite was sworn in for second term as the President of Lithuania.
The oath of office was administered by the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania Dainius Zalimas in presence of the Lithuanian parliament members.
Grybauskaite is the first female president of Lithuania who also became the first leader of the country to be reelected for a second five-year term in May.
She addressed her audience in March 11 Hall of the Seimas and Lithuanian people live on television after taking an oath for the second term.
During her speech, Grybauskaite called for enhanced efforts to strengthen Lithuanian security amid Ukraine-Rusia crisis.
The ceremony was also attended by Speaker of the Seimas Loreta Grauziniene and SocialDemocratic Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius who expressed his will to work with the president as a team.
Government had to return its power to the reelected President and made some minor changes in the cabinet. However, since Lithuania is a parliamentary democracy, Grybauskaite will have to continue working with the same government of Mr. Butkevicius.
Grybauskaite's responsibilities lies mostly with foreign policy, which many Lithuanians see as very successfull, especially after Grybauskaite's strong stance during Ukrainian crisis.
Grybauskaite won her second presidency with roughly 58 percent supportive votes in this May.

She should be more consistent, because she was quite chaotic. At first she ignores Barack Obama, later she says that we need even closer integration into Eurotlantic organizations, so I would like her to be more consistent.

Her foreign policy is really good at the moment. Her reaction towards events in Ukraine are totally adequate. I think she just need to keep her back strong.

episode #2 - Presidential Palace in Vilnius
William and Daniel are talking about Presidential Palace in Vilnius.
Vilnius, City Tour by Bus - Lithuana 4K Travel Channel
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and, in terms of area, the largest city in the Baltics. Vilnius was never subordinate to the Teutonic Order. Vilnius has always had a very liberal reputation until the Poles were expelled in World War II and the Jews fled or were murdered.
The name of the city originates from the small river Vilnia, which flows near the Gediminas mountain in the Neris. Grand Duke Gediminas founded the city in 1323. He wooed for merchants, scientists, and craftsmen, also with the argument of the two churches. The freedom of religion influenced the liberality of the city for a long time. Nevertheless, the city was repeatedly attacked and devastated by the Teutonic Order. Therefore, the Grand Duke Wladysław II Jagiello entered into an alliance with Poland and married the Polish Queen Hedwig. Then the land was Christianized and one destroyed the pagan temple on the Gediminas mountain.
Originally Vilnius was capital of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Abieju Tautu Respublika from 1569 to 1795. After being controlled by Russia, Poland, Sweden, and Germany, Vilnius became the capital of Lithuania again in 1990. Already in 1579, one founded the University of Vilnius.
In the morning of the next day, the weather seems to be better again and we decide to make a city tour by bus in Vilnius to get a quick overview of the most important sights.
The bus tour starts in the city center near the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus. It is the oldest church on Lithuanian soil, already built in the 13th century. It received its classical appearance in 1783. The cathedral was built on the remains of a first Christian church and on the remains of a pagan temple.
Behind the cathedral is the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
Next station is the Presidential Palace.
In an outer arch, the bus travels around the old town to the east and reaches St. Anne's Church and the Church of St. Francis and St. Bernard. On the opposite side of the street is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
A few meters further on is the white Cathedral of the Theotokos.
Right next to it, the bridge leads over the Vilnia River to a special neighborhood in Vilnius, the Republic of Uzupis.
