There have been clashes in the Armenian capital Yerevan between police and anti-government protesters who were trying to march on the presidential palace.
The march was blocked by police. Witnesses said around 20 people were detained.
Some protesters were reportedly armed with sticks and firecrackers which they threw at police, causing several injuries.
The march was led by a prominent opposition activist. Back in March, Armenia's Constitutional Court rejected complaints that the previous month's presidential election had been rigged.

Armenia: Baghramyan Avenue occupation continues, fortified by bins
Protesters in Yerevan blocked roads with wheelie bins, Wednesday, as protests sparked by a price hike in utility bills continue to grip the Armenian capital and threaten further anti-government unrest. Nearly 240 protesters have been detained since the beginning of the week, with those who oppose government policies continuing to rally.
Many protesters staged a sit-in protest throughout Tuesday night, as a police cordon and vehicles blocked the way to the presidential palace.
The unrest follows the nation's parliament agreeing to raise the cost of electricity by at least 16 percent in the country. There is a recognition on the part of both Armenia and Azerbaijan that any settlement must be based on the Helsinki principles. There have been many very serious consultations between both the president of Armenia and the president of Azerbaijan, most recently two weeks ago in Saint Petersburg with (Russian) President Medvedev, and now we would hope to see real progress made on completing the basic principles to enable the drafting of a final peace settlement.

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Secretary of State:
I was very pleased when President Sarkisian announced, that despite the problems that Armenia saw coming from Turkey, that Armenia stood ready to continue normalisation, but that it would suspend its efforts until the Turkish side was ready to move forward again. We applaud it, your president's decision, because that was a decision to continue, despite the obstacles, to work towards peace, stability and reconciliation.

STORYLINE:
US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday appealed to Armenia and Azerbaijan for a peaceful resolution of a long-running territorial dispute between the neighbouring ex-Soviet states
The dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region risks escalating to warfare and has caused diplomatic problems beyond their borders.
Following on from her visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, Clinton made the one hour flight to Armenia on Sunday where she was met by Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian before driving to the presidential palace in Yerevan for a meeting and dinner with President Serge Sarkisian.
Sarkisian said the dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh was the single most important issue for his country - echoing almost word for word a statement hours earlier by Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.
Azerbaijan, which shares a border with Iran, is of particular strategic importance to the United States.
Tens of thousands of flights carrying war supplies to US and allied forces in Afghanistan have crossed Azeri airspace over the past nine years of
fighting.
Azerbaijan also is part of an overland supply chain that is a key alternative to the main land route through Pakistan to Afghanistan.
However, the US also has good relations with Armenia and has worked to broker an agreement between Armenia and Turkey on establishing formal diplomatic relations and opening their sealed border after a century of enmity.
Turkey, however, has refused to ratify the agreement until Armenia removes its military forces from Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave in Azerbaijan that has been under control of Armenian troops and ethnic Armenian forces since a 1994 cease-fire.
The truce ended six years of war that killed about 30-thousand people and displaced an estimated 1 (m) million.
Turks have close cultural and linguistic ties to Azerbaijan.
At an evening news conference in Yerevan, Clinton said that Washington had been encouraged in recent times by the willingness of both Armenia and Azerbaijan's presidents to negotiate a final peace settlement.
But Clinton also criticised Azerbaijan for a recent outbreak of violence.

President Sarkissian hosted Diaspora children who are in Armenia in the framework of AGBU program
Today, the Presidential Palace hosted young people from Diaspora who have arrived to Armenia in the framework of the Armenian Benevolent General Union (AGBU) Yerevan Summer Professional Training and Musical Armenia programs. They met with President Armen Sarkissian. During a cordial conversation, President Sarkissian responded to the kids’ questions which pertained mainly to the vision of Armenia’s development, ties with the Fatherland, President’s personal experiences, etc.
“We need to have a vision for development, where we go, what direction we take for development,” President said. “To understand what kind of country we want to have in 30 or 50 years, we need to understand where the world will be in 30 or 50 years. Our country should develop in that context. Thus, our first step should be to analyze and understand where the world is heading; second, where we want to be in the context of that development, to calculate what needs to be done for us to be in the place we want to be. It is called a vision but before vision we need to make analysis, we need to have a goal,” President said.
“To have a vision is not enough, it might remain just a dream if there is no strategy, no ensuing program whose implementation will get us closer to our vision.” Armen Sarkissian stressed the importance of a dialogue for having a vision. “Each of us has his or her understanding of vision, and it is very important to share it with each other to create a common vision. At this stage, we need a dialogue, need to exchange ideas, taking into consideration opinions in Armenia, Artsakh, and those of the Armenians living in different countries of the world. It will create a vision tailored for Armenia which can be different from the visions of other countries, because our nation is spread all over the world, and we have a unique network which is a great asset and a huge advantage in the contemporary world. We need to use our advantage to achieve success in our model, in our strategy.” According to the President, what we have is not just a network; we are united through our identity, history, family, culture, and mission.
To move forward, the President highlighted the importance of making headway in a number of areas (tourism, agriculture, high technologies). “We should strive to have best results, should strive to be the best.”
Addressing the young people from Diaspora, Armen Sarkissian said, “In Armenia, we need to do everything, so that you feel home here, feel that you can come back at any moment, work and make your contribution. There should be no obstacles to do that. View Armenia as you home, your country. But you also need to be the best citizens of the countries you reside in. So, I wish you feel not only home here but also become part of our nation, our country.”
