INTERESTING OLD HOUSE WITH A MUSEUM UPSTAIRS
Priests House West Hoathly 13.3.10
Standing in the beautiful surroundings of a traditional cottage garden on the edge of Ashdown Forest, the Priest House is an early 15th century timber-framed hall-house built as an estate office for the Priory of St. Pancras in Lewes to improve the administration of the Manor of the Rectory of West Hoathly.
The house was originally an open hall, with a living room & upper chamber on the north end & a service end, with a buttery, pantry & solar, to the south. Large stone chimneys were built to replace the medieval open hearth, which enabled two new rooms to be created upstairs, each with their own fireplace. The original thatched roof was also replaced with Horsham stone.
The House now contains a varied collection of 17th & 18th century country furniture, ironwork, embroidery & other domestic bygones, displayed in furnished rooms.
This house has been investigated by several groups before but our research has found there was little or no evidence gathered, so we were looking forward to finding out for ourselves.

#97 Wanderings Around West Sussex
It’s August Bank Holiday Monday in the UK which finds my buddy Al and I doing a little Road Trip in his Camper Van around the beautiful County of West Sussex. We first visit The National Trust Property and Grade 1 Listed Building of Standen House near East Grinstead before driving across the ancient Ashdown Forest. Our final destination is the Village of West Hoathly where we visit the Medieval St Margaret’s Church, The Cat’s Inn Pub for a quick drink and a then a welcome return to The Priest House, a 15th Century Wealden Hall House owned and managed by Sussex Past where I conducted a paranormal investigation with my ‘Spiral Paranormal’ Team back in 2011.

Salmesbury Hall near Preston, home to the Southworth family of Tudor times. Beautiful building restored in 1925. Some believe that the Priest room is haunted by the priest who was literally hacked to death in that room when he was discovered at the time of the Reformation during the reign of Henry VIII.

West Hoathly - Protect our Rec
Some local residents from Protect our Rec, together with West Hoathly Community Shop Ltd, and West Hoathly Parish Council visited North Lane Recreation Ground to mark out the proposed site of the shop, café and car park, on the Rec. This will help everyone understand the true scale of this unnecessary project.
Protect our Rec is petitioning West Hoathly Parish Council to reject the lease of land on North Lane Recreation Ground to West Hoathly Community Shop Ltd, for the purpose of building a shop, cafe and car park. Please sign it if you haven't already done so at CostCutter in Sharpthorne. If you can't get there, please email rec@westhoathly.com and the petition will come to you.
Thank you for reading this, and enjoy the video!

Ringer Ollie and St Margaret's in West Hoathly
Today I am exploring the lovely parish church of St Margarets in West Hoathly, a beautiful, tucked out-of-the-way village in East Sussex. Young bell ringing enthusiast, Ollie, tells me all about the lovely church and more about his fascinating hobby.
Built in the early Norman period, St Margarets has had various changes over the centuries, not least in fitting an electric clock. Ann Tree, a local lady from the village was martyred under the rule of Bloody Mary in East Grinstead and there is a memorial to her in the nave. A fabulous yew tree grows in the churchyard, and the view to the South Downs is delightful.
