Great Canadian Parks #19- Prince Edward Island National Park, PEI
This park lies along 40 km of the Island’s north shore. The landscape varies from sand dunes, beaches and red sandstone cliffs to salt marshes and fresh water ponds, and it has the finest example of the delicate 'sand dune ecosystem' in Atlantic Canada. The star residents are the fragile piping plover, nesting in sandy beaches, & the great blue heron along the inland salt marshes & shallow ponds

Our first stop was at the town of Cavendish on Prince Edward Island. If you are an Anne of Green Gables fan, then you might be freaking out a bit right now. Yup, this is the spot where that show was based.
And let me tell you, you definitely know that once you roll into Cavendish! Everything around there is based around, or references, Anne of Green Gables. It's a fantastic spot and full of natural beauty, as you might imagine.

We stayed just outside of Cavendish at an RV park called Tranquility By the Sea on the northern coast of the island. Small little place, no frills (other than a pool), but perfect for our needs and a great location to explore much of the island.
Just 5 minutes from the RV park is Prince Edward National Park...or at least one section of it. It actually spreads all around the island, but this section close to us was perfect for viewing some fabulous coastal sunsets over the crystal clear water. And we took full advantage of it.
We also got a chance to explore Cape Tryon Lighthouse on a couple of different occasions (one during the day and one for sunset) where the kiddos had a great time indulging in some cliff jumping and random ocean frollicking. Can't complain about that! Great times, great pics, great footage.
Later in the week, we made a drive about 90 minutes away to the Greenwich portion of Prince Edward Island National Park. This area included a nice path that wound it's way through fields and forest before turning into a boardwalk that crossed some large, shallow lake areas and then ended up at a beautiful sandy beach. It was the best of all worlds and everyone fully enjoyed the adventure.
If you find yourself up this way, be sure to hit these spots that we cover in the video. But also rememeber to hit a Cows Ice Cream shop! Freaking outstanding ice cream made right there on the island. You can't beat it.

Prince Edward Island Travel Guide | Visiting PEI Canada:
Today we’re going to be taking you around Prince Edward Island, one of Canada’s 3 maritime provinces and the final destination of our road trip! We had four days to explore the island and during that time, we visited fishing villages, walked along the famous red sand beaches, toured the home of Anne of Green Gables, sampled our first lobster roll, and enjoyed a delicious seafood feast prepared by Sam’s uncle who is a chef on the island. It was a really fun visit, so all that and more coming up in this video!
We quickly retreated back to the farmhouse we had rented, and despite the mosquitoes attacking, we did get to enjoy a nice sunset on our sprint back.
The following morning, we got up bright and early ready to explore the island. Our first stop, a beach for Togo to splash around in.
After our visit to the beach, we hopped back in the car and drove up to Cavendish, where the main attraction is Green Gables Heritage Place. Whether you’ve read the books, seen the movies, or watched the series, setting foot here will transport you to the late 19th century where you can relive Anne’s adventures.
The following morning we woke up to a rather grey and rainy day, but that wasn’t going to keep us from exploring the island. We hopped in the car and drove to Greenwich Beach, which had been recommended to us by a local.
We drove to a nearby town where Togo got to enjoy some playtime on the beach, and after he had his fill of splashing around and fetching the stick, we got back in the car. At this point, the rain was really starting to pick up, so we returned back to the farmhouse.
The next morning we drove to nearby Borden-Carleton, a town located right at the foot of the Confederation Bridge. Every tourist who drives to PEI passes through here, plus the town has a few tourist attractions like a lighthouse, a boxcar, and some fun photo ops. And have I mentioned that you get the best views of the Confederation Bridge? Because you do!
That evening we had a very special guest. Sam’s uncle, Hans Anderegg, is a Swiss chef who lives on the island and teaches at the Culinary Institute of Canada. He kindly prepared us a seafood feast featuring oysters, scallops, fish and lobster. It was mouthwateringly delicious!

Thinking of doing a PEI Road Trip? Don''t miss this video on Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI) is the smallest of the Canadian Provinces, however what it lacks in size, it makes up for in grandeur. Prince Edward Island is one of the most beautiful islands in Canada, if not the world. We had only five nights to explore and I truly wish we had the whole summer. Gorgeous sandy beaches, lovely people, and incredibly delicious food make this province a wonderful place to visit. Actually, I learned something new about Prince Edward Island. The province is home to an incredible food culture and is the perfect place for any passionate foodie. We had no idea about the love of food on the island but it didn't take long for us to figure it out. From cooking lessons at the Table to one-of-a-kind experiences by the famous Canadian Chef, Michael Smith, our days were filled with tasty local delights.
PEI was our third province visited on the Road to 150 Tour.
Canada's Road to 150 is a 150-day Canada-wide multimedia road trip celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by exploring the uniqueness of this country provincially and collectively while answering the question; What makes Canada special?
We will drive to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. Our aim is to dig deep into what makes Canada such an incredibly inspiring country while showing off the best of Canada's tourism to Canadians and to the world.

Welcome back to our Canadian adventure. After crossing over the amazing Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island we were able to visit the home of Anne of Green Gables. The floating boardwalk in Greenwich National Park was a beautiful walk. Then on to the singing sands at Basin Head Provincial Park. At Cavendish, PEI we enjoyed a New Glasgow Lobster Supper (yummy!!!), what a treat. We attended the College of Piping and Celtic Performance in Charlottetown for a great show. The Confederation Players walking tour was a great time and well worth it.

GREENWICH NATIONAL PARK PEI | CANADA
GREENWICH NATIONAL PARK PEI ! Its a wonderful place with a great trail that leads to the Greenwich Beach.
The western tip of Greenwich, a peninsula that separates St. Peters Bay from the Gulf of St. Lawrence, became part of Prince Edward Island National Park in 1998 to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources found in the area.
Greenwich features three hiking trails varying in length from 1.25 km to 4.5 km. The landscape varies from secluded wooded areas to open abandoned agricultural fields to spectacular vistas over Bowley Pond. All trails are equipped with interpretive signs, which explain the unique ecosystem and rich history of the area.
Greenwich Beach is part of PEI National Park . Greenwich Beach is one of those star attractions that Islanders try to keep for themselves. It has the largest sand dunes on the Island with boardwalks and trails that roll across the marshes and grass like something out of a storybook. The pristine sand seems to go on forever making it paradise for anyone who loves a long walk in the gentle waves. Greenwich Beach is outside the North Shore tourist areas so you stand a good chance for more room and privacy without sacrificing the amenities of other PEI National Park beaches.
