Morning Fire On Central Street
It was a difficult start to the day for residents in one Prince George home. A fire gutted a residence at the Carriage Lane Estates on Central Street. The Prince George Fire Department responded with three fire halls to the corner unit of the townhome complex. The fire began in the kitchen and spread quickly. Fire crews limited damage to the corner unit but nearby residences suffered minor smoke damage. Fire officials say the five people in the home were taken to hospital to be assessed.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, however, two dogs were at home but they were able to get out.

Line Crossing Closes Highway 16 East
Highway 16 east was closed this afternoon in both directions because of a line crossing the highway. Emergency crews stopped all traffic, but directed people to detours. The incident happened near the Prince George Regional Corrections Centre. It appears some industry activity being done on the side of the highway brought the line down.
Long Weekend Launch
VICTORIA - The BC Day Long Weekend should be enjoyed, however there are a number of things travelers should keep in mind. The BC Ferries will be backed up and travelers should plan ahead says spokesperson Deborah Marshall.
We are seeing heavy volume at both the Swartz Bay to Tsawassen and Horse Shoe Bay to Nanaimo routes and that means passengers should either book reservation or get there with plenty of time to spare, we are expecting it to be a very busy weekend.
Additional sailings have been added to combat the number of travellers, including a sailing that starts at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
With more traffic on the roads, the Langford Fire Department has been busy responding to median and grass fires, and they want to remind everyone that even attending to small fires depletes their resources.
And when it comes to camping there is a province wide ban in affect due to extreme dry conditions, and the province is asking everyone to use common sense when using open flames.
While police will be out in full force enforcing speed limits, and setting up road blocks to discourage impaired driving.

AYOO Art Exhibit Dec 11 2015 - Kelli Clifton Artist Speach
(sorry for shakiness - didn't have tripod)
Kelli Clifton was born and raised in Prince Rupert, BC. Her mother is of European ancestry and her father is Gitga’ata from the community of Hartley Bay. While attending the University of Victoria, Clifton began studying the artwork created by her Tsimshian ancestors. By the time she graduated in 2011 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, Kelli had already created a number of large scale paintings influenced by identity, her family’s fishing history and Northwest Coast design.
Recognizing the need to further develop her design skills, Clifton moved back to the north September 2013 to Terrace, where she attended the First Nations Fine Arts program at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. During the two year diploma program, not only did Kelli’s design and painting skills improve but she also learned to carve wood. Under the guidance of instructors Dean Heron, Ken McNeil, Stan Bevan and Dempsey Bob, Kelli was awarded the YVR Art Foundation Youth Scholarship both years that she attended Freda Diesing. Her carved halibut bowl titled Txaw (Catch Me If You Can) is currently on display at the Vancouver International Airport.
Over the years, Clifton has been involved in a number of notable group exhibitions (such as the Museum of Anthropology’s Claiming Space) and her artwork has been featured in a variety of publications (such as Lisa Charleyboy and Mary Beth Leatherdale’s Dreaming in Indian). Since graduating from the University of Victoria, Kelli has returned to the History in Art department as a guest lecturer and recently taught a class at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art.
Summer 2015, Kelli was selected as one of two Aboriginal artists across Canada by the Canada Council for the Arts to attend the Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico. During her three months in Santa Fe, Clifton created a series of paintings that were influenced both by her family’s fishing history and by the traditional Tsimshian language, Sm’algyax. Not being able to speak much of her traditional language, Kelli was interested in creating a relationship between her artwork and Sm’algyax in order to learn more words.
Ayoo is the first word that Kelli can remember learning in Sm’algyax, which her parents taught her to shout out whenever she saw a fish jump. That sense of excitement is present for her first ever solo exhibition, held in her home community of Prince Rupert at the Museum of Northern British Columbia. Ayoo will feature recent paintings of Kelli’s that demonstrate her family’s passion for fishing and coastal life as well as her new collection created in Santa Fe which involves language.
Clifton received support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council for Ayoo. Please join us for the opening reception on Friday December 11th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Exhibition will run through January 2016.
