Capital Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in Washington, D.C.
Washington Brewery–the city’s first brewery–opened in 1796. Brewer barons like Christian Heurich and Albert Carry dominated the taps of city saloons until production ground to a halt with Prohibition. Only Heurich survived, and when the venerable institution closed in 1956, Washington, DC, was without a brewery for 55 years. Author and beer scholar Garrett Peck taps this history while introducing readers to the bold new brewers leading the capital’s recent craft beer revival. A book signing will follow the program.

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Originals - 133 Shelter Cove
Here is a ditty I diddled on the banjo in the majesty of our campground at Shelter Cove. Blowski and Wes had run off to some waterfalls and I stayed and played a new little song. We then went and spent the day on the black sand beach nearby. A beautiful day. We checked out The Avenue of the Giants later and I just had my world's favorite sandwich, the grilled tofu, at Wildberries. It's good to be back in Humboldt on our day off on the tour. Much fun. Stick around for the end of the video, if you'd like to see my superpooch Angel, frolicking in a creek right near our campsite.
Was meaning to post this a couple of days ago, but we have been in some remote locales these last few days on tour. Now we are at Naked Lounge in Sacramento, having arrived hours early for our next show on tour. Feels good to be uploading some vids and processing the footage the other days from Shelter Cove. Looking forward to catching up with some old friends tonight and having another good show on tour. Last night we played at Mad River Brewing Company in Blue Lake, CA. They were really cool and have very yummy beer. Hooray. It's great to be here. Hope you enjoy this taste of where we've been hanging.

A trailer for the novel Teen Girl From Mars by Jason Goldtrap, available as either a paper book or an ebook at Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, CreateSpace.com or SmashWords.com. Set in the year 2191, Teen Girl From Mars tells the story of Sarah Conrad, a 16 year old girl growing up in the small, rural town of Eagle Creek in the Sheridan Valley Agricultural Zone on an American colonized planet Mars. Teen Girl From Mars is an optimistic, wholesome story without relying on sci-fi cliches, there are no zombies, vampires, space aliens, oppressive corporations, nuclear war, etc. This is a story about families, ordinary people living in an extraordinary environment.
Eagle Creek is a small town of only 500 people, 25,000 people live in Sheridan Valley, which is just south of the modern dome city of Salmineo, population 1,000,000. Sheridan Valley is noted for its production of wheat, it is 12 miles wide, 25 miles long and 6,000 feet from soil to ceiling. These are in the Martian American state of North Jefferson which has a total population of 300 million and is one of 7 Martian American Republics part of the United Systems of America which represents some 2 billion Americans living in the United States of America, (the states of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota), Earth orbiting American space stations, American lunar colonies, Mars, the Asteroid Belt, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. The United Systems of America began in 2052 when those 5 states broke away from the corrupt and inept North American Union to form their own God fearing, achievement oriented, Constitution based republic with a dedicated free-enterprise economy. With minimal regulation, employing principles of liberty set forth by Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Ayn Rand and Glenn Beck, this re-constituted America fought a brief war of separation from the NAU and within a few years it was able to sell grain to its starving neighbors. In the USA there is no welfare, social security, food stamps or any other governmental aide beyond immediate emergency relief due to a natural disaster. Most people get along just fine when they are encouraged to live independently. Those who are incorrigible are in prison thus crime is a rarity. Those who cannot take care of themselves are supported by their families, churches or charities- the only three groups which have a natural mandate to comfort the afflicted. Most Americans are religious following the admonition of President John Adams who said, Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
Sarah Conrad was born in Eagle Creek in 2175. The third child and only daughter of Paula and Michael Conrad, Sarah is smart, witty and generally has a pleasant demeanor. Michael is an elder at Eagle Creek Church of Christ (one of three churches in town) and her parents raised her to be a faithful member. Sarah is shy around guys and relies upon her more outgoing friend Emily to feel comfortable in awkward social situations. Emily can be an outrageous flirt and their practical jokes are legendary among her classmates at Eagle Creek School.

Lyrics:
Got my windows down in my Chevy,
Free fallin like Petty,
I'm cruising to the country,
Got that needle Rollin steady,
I ain't trying to see nobody,
I'm just trying to spend some time,
Reflecting on myself, while I'm out throwin some line,
I don't need no case of beer and I don't need no bottle of shine,
I'm just out here for myself so that I can clear my mind,
When this life gets going heavy,
Somehow I just know it's time,
To load it up In the pickup truck and hit that county line...
Lyrics:
(Chorus)
I Spend alot of damn time,
Out in them pines, with my fishing pole, and my four wheel drive
I'm trying to find me somewhere,
Way out past the county line,
You aint bout to tell me nothin cause them country boys can survive
You aint bout to tell me nothin cause them country boys can survive
You aint bout to tell me nothin cause them country boys can survive....
(Verse 2)
I'm on that up and go,
I'm on that gone all night,
I'm on that don't call my cell phone,
Cause I ain't thinkin right,
I'm out here trying to find patience and I don't care the cost,
I'm so secluded and honestly I don't wanna talk,
I keep a bag packed up in my pickup truck,
Some people carry a bible I got a fishing rod,
So you can find me on a old dirt road,
Way out yonder where them country boys go,
(Verse3)
Got the windows down,
Listenin to the radio,
Fish tailin that dirt road,
That dust kicked up in a zip code,
that can't be found by the mailman,
I'm somewhere out by the whisperin pond,
Listenin to the sound of an old Willie song,
Truck parked down by the creek side,
You can find it on a country road,
Take me on journey to a place that nobody knows, I just wanna be alone somewhere I ain't well known,
I just wanna find myself somewhere on that county road,
